Bomb Threats In Barbados Courts? Rumour or Truth? A Reader Asks…

Friends, we received this query from one of our readers – which backs up something we heard on the streets of Bridgetown this afternoon.

Can anyone provide some perspective on the day’s happenings?

Yesterday, there was a bomb scare at Cable and Wireless at Wildey and also one at Courts. This morning, there was one at the South Gap Hotel.

Anyone know what is going on?

I don’t know if it was a bomb threat, but I was driving past Cable & Wireless yesterday sometime after midday and I saw all the staff pouring out of the building. I thought they had gone on strike! Perhaps the bomb threats are a ploy to divert police attention away from shops and Bridgetown shoppers doing their Christmas shopping so that the thieves can have a field day.

Saw on the news that people were frightened of an earthquake.

One occurred today in almost the same place as the one on Thursday. This is the first since Friday in that area. I suspect there will be more.

I heard the tail end of the story and it sounds like other islands felt the tremors.

It was 174 miles NW of Bridgetown and occurred at 8:11:23 this morning. Size was 5.4.

The one on Thursday was 167 miles NW of Barbados and was 7.3. We felt that one!!

I suspect that news of the earthquake took time to filter down and the reaction was to evacuate buildings.

I do not recall feeling any earth movements this morning but people in tall buildings might have felt them.

It would be interesting to know what time the evacuations took place because it would give an idea as to whether the tremors were felt here or not.

I drove by Cable and Wireless and everyone was outside and the entrance was blocked by private security vans. No police, however. A friend of mine in the tourism industry told me South Gap was evacuated due to a bomb threat, and that Courts also had a threat (not sure if she meant the store or the law courts).

Spoke to someone who says the rumour he heard today was that there would be after shocks so people were careful and got out of buildings.

I don’t think anyone actually felt the tremor when it happened at 8:11:23 but the news of it spread and got distorted.

The earthquake on Thursday was something completely different and out of the ordinary so Bajans are not taking chances.

I have been trying ever since Tuesday to engage the BFP on the no-confidence motion debate.

To date I have failed to get any body from the BFP or any of the DLP yardfowls on this blog to discuss with me the outcome of the debate and where they see Thompson political future.

Please can someone talk me about this lying political idiot Thompson.

You are not going to get any responses, they are too busy burying their heads in the sand. What a shame

    Royalrumble,
We have decided that we will no longer listen to your diatribe!

You are also a lier. You deliberately tried to implicate David Thompson in relation to not paying the winners of the football competition in ST.John. You should apologise for telling lies on David. You are therefore a dangerous animal! If you publicly apologise I will speak to my associates and have them engage you!

It have been confirmed people. All these partisan commenters seems to be operating from one area for a particular purpose. This is the same reason I stated that this is a DLP mastermind blog with its director of PR, the Caricom Consultant and maguffy or spin doctor, the evasive HH.

Remember you said it “we have decided”, no wonder you refuse to comment on issues that will align Mr. Thompson/Parris/Clico.

This is the same reason when BU have a blog that questions the DLP, we are hearing nonsense of joining the BLP. This is where NEUTRALITY comes in, my friend.

  9. Wishing in Vain

Please ease us with your NEUTRALITY crap, you are making a fool of yourself with that nonsense.

  10. reality check

the BFP, from what I have read, does not play political favourites only a bunch of political hacks like frankology
want to sow the seed of distrust.

Go on to your own web sites and see how big your audience is and stop trying to takeover the honest expression of different peoples views.

  11. Bomb threats are an insidious evil only too easy to cause havoc within security services. All it takes is an anonymous telephone call. Such calls are too serious to be treated as pranks, and prompt investigation is required.

I recall that bomb threats were common at University of Miami presumed to be by those unready for an exam. A bomb threat would ensure the cancellation of the exam until a later date, by which time the unscrupulous student would be better prepared.

Let’s hope we do not experience an epidemic of such calls. It would drive the authorities up the wall, but they could never afford to assume they were empty threats and take no action. The less such action is publicized, the less chance of criminally stupid copycats.

DLP, BLP, …… six of one is half dozen of the other.

One played a game in 93, the other is playing the same game in 2007.

    Big deal?

    What is there to discuss?

A blind man on a trotting horse can see that our political system has not improved one iota since 93, …. same crappy people.

Call the election and stop playing games.

Hope some day there can be a discussion on the Royal B’dos Police Group…The Office of Professional Responsibility…The Police Complaints Commission… The Ombudsman.. what a Royal mess…so many horror stories to tell!

    Royalrumble,
We have decided that we will no longer listen to your diatribe
    ……………………………………………………………………………..
I did not say it, your partner-in-crime confirm it.
The problem with some, I am stressing SOME of the partisan bloggers, you simply hate to be confronted with anyone speaking out against Mr. Thompson. These blogs are for the masses, regardless of political affiliation. WIV commands the most comments, sorry PR for the DLP, unlike me, I criticise both, because I have no political affiliation. I will not be giving any party my ‘X’ because both have the same ideologies, with entwining family members who eat, drink, sleep, cuss and party together.

So only thing you will be able to do, is speak the truth and dis nightmare will not ride you. Get it!
Now try and deal with issues that confront the masses. This goes out to all partisan posters, Dees and Bees.

    One-sided,
    Political blinded,
…so that you will be happy. No way my friend.
