The Bystander: New Barbados Blog Wants A Link To Barbados Free Press

What do you think, folks?

The Bystander

Link or no link?

George

Point…

The Bystander sent us this suggestion earlier on…

Dear BFP,

I think you folks have access to more resources than I do, so why not search high and low for every manifesto ever printed by all of the political parties of Barbados and put them up on BFP? That way, the public could  compare and contrast the last BLP’s manifesto with the current one, or the DLPs or the NDPs, etc. Everyone could see what parties have delivered on what promises they made over time and we as the electorate (who sometimes suffer from short term memory) will be able to look back and see if it’s all old talk or new talk.

What do you think?

Good idea, Bystander!

Not sure about your blog though. I’ll leave that up to our readers.

Really? He wants to be linked to the most popular Caribbean blog ? Going to take more than 1 article ..

    My vote is nay …

  2. akabozik

This is a joke, isn’t it?

The Bystander spells Parallel as “paralell” and Neither as “Niether”

Not yet ready. Try again in a month bystander, and buy a dictionary.

    Or is that “dickshunairy” ?

    LOL

The Bystander’s heart is in it but the blog is not ready. Bystander: WordPress has an automatic spelling checker that you can turn on and off. Better turn it on!

    nah. what a toe head.

I quite like the banner picture across the top of the page..reminds me of Barbados Dept. of Archives
he needs to run his site for awhile
and let it mature and accumulate stuff
    b4 listing here.

  6. Um, when I started and I wanted your view, I had SOME material already on board – what is this? Perhaps a cheap plea for publicity, go 2 addme-dot-com or submit-express-dot-com and categorise as BLOG…

Whatever became of the much publicised ‘Sentinel’??

  8. Good Question!

Indeed, whatever became of the much-heralded Sentinel newspaper that was going to supply us with, at last, some decent probing investigative journalism…?

  9. ?

“Indeed, whatever became of the much-heralded Sentinel newspaper that was going to supply us with, at last, some decent probing investigative journalism…?”
    stupse. Bare joke.

  10. Howdy BFP & BFP Readers,

‘Toe-head’ here (very clever, rajan bajan.) I had no idea that BFP would’ve published my request for a link to my blog, so I was suprised to see it posted.
Ten points for that move! Sly like a fox, eh?

I also liked to see the BFP folks solicit the opinions and feedback of their readers with regards to my link request, very democratic of you BFP. Maybe our Government should take a (web)page out of your book.

As for the BFP readers, most of whom correctly identified my poor spelling, I’d like to say thanks, especially to akabozik, I shall indeed get hold of a suitable ‘dickshunairy.’ Very funny, that one. By the by, how is my grammar?

Red Lake Lassie, thank you. I hear what you are saying and you are correct. I will go back to the blog, read more and post more articles and re-submit my request for a link on the BFP website in six months’ time. By then, I hope to to have built up a worthy collection of posts such that BFP and their readers will consider my blog for inclusion. My apologies, Mr. Bourne, for stepping on your toes by asking for a link.

Now back to my other request, the one that BFP did indeed publish in full. The one in which I asked if BFP and its resources could gather all of the manifestos that were ever published by all of the political parties in Barbados, scan them and upload them to the BFP website, (seeing as how BFP is the most popular Caribbean blog, according to Jose Marti) so that all of Barbados and the rest of the world can see what promises were made, are being made and which ones were kept.

How does that sound, BFP and readers?

  11. No-name

What was your motivation to start a blog? And why the attempt to mirror BFP? Parhaps you belong to Mia and want t0 be able to trace IP addresses. I say no to a link with The Bystander.

  12. Dear No-name,

    1. My motivation to start an opinionated blog was simple. I have opinions that I like to discuss in the open and I like to solicit feedback and debate from others. I’ve also thought about starting an online only, Barbadian newspaper. However, my current financial position prevents me from doing as such.

    2. As for ‘mirroring’ the BFP, if you meant to ask why I chose the same layout, well that’s easy. I like the BFP layout, it’s plain and simple and easy on the eyes. I’m no expert at web nor print design, but I can appreciate those qualities and hope that readers appreciate it as well. And if that doesn’t convince you, well you know what they say: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”

    3. Trace IP addresses? I post to BFP using a combination of Tor and Privoxy. Google around and read up on what those products allow you to do. Better yet, visit this link: http://tor.eff.org/ I also post to my own blog using those applications. I don’t work for, nor represent any political party in Barbados. In fact, the only thing I represent is opinion and independent thought.

    How does that sound?

  13. Rather than asking for BFP to link to your blog, why don’t you concentrate on posting articles that BFP and other blogs relating to Barbados would be interested in linking to? Blogs link to other blogs which have interesting content and usually related to their topic – not because of a link request.
