Beer: apparently a very white beverage!

“Beer: Sparkling, golden, pure, refreshing. A beverage as old as history…”

I’m surfing the web on a Saturday morning – a little hung over from last night – and I came across this 1952 beer promotional film “As we like it”.

It’s a fantastic film of the times made some 60 years ago. I love looking at the people, technologies and the lifestyles of post-war America – but where are the ‘Negroes’ ? Where are the Chinese, Indians, dark-skinned Sicilians?

According to the vision of the United States Brewers Foundation Inc., those kinds of people don’t exist.

Still, the film is worth watching for what it shows, and what it doesn’t show.

Cheers!

BFP, where are the whites in our National Heroes? Despite evidence that whites contradicted the social mores of the day to help black slaves there has been no accommodation of those historical facts in racist Bim. Or does BFP believe that black on white is not racism? And BFP talks about beer….you are bare boo.

Correction. The Moors were in fact BERBERS from Morocco, not Arabs. Berbers only became “Arabized” subsequent to the spread of slam. People assumed Arab identities to legitimize and pursue their own goals that were mainly political and economical.

why dont you look at the Barbados phone book cover a few (4 or 5 years maybe) years ago..titled “Barbados is for we” a picture painted by a school child, showing everybody (postman, sportsman, policeman, farmer, and yes, a pig) but no white folks………………………..
Look hard enough you can find racism practically everywhere.

  5. gimme a break...this is getting boring

Black people were discriminated agianst..cant be denied and as a whit I am ebarassed by my forefathers actions in this regard….but like the coloured people need to quit playing the race card when a lot of times there is no racism involved
time to move on and be as one not shifting balance one way or another

Most govt literature in Barbados like school books, public literature, bank pamphlets etc. and ads rarely has a white person in the picture and only shows white people in a tourist context. In the US, Canada and the UK there are black and asian faces all over govt. literature and brochures, more than actually represent the percentage of the population.
In this beer ad, nobody mentioned native Americans, so called I mean the tribes, Sioux, the Manhattans, the Arapaho and all the other tribes who in fact were devastated by access to Western-introduced alcohol which they couldn’t cope with and used as a resort in their despair and confusion, just to deal with the wipe out of their cultures.
I think there IS racism involved when schoolbooks show only black children in a country where at least 3% of school kids are white.

For the last time….it is an unarguable FACT that black on white is still racism…or, a rose by any other name is still a rose. Capisce? You dummies out there hear me good?

I am a white Australian citizen. Here in Australia many of us including myself have in the past queried why in TV programs and commercials we have not seen more Asians and Blacks. Thankfully nowadays Australia being a multicultural society we have been able to see more people from different racial bacgrounds appearing on TV as actors, news readers, commentators and in commercials. The concept of white Australians having a stranglehold on prime TV has now been consigned to the dustbin of history. What has happened to further diminish racism here in Australia is that parents have been chided by their children when they utter any racist remarks even in jest. You see when kids interact with each other from different racial backgrounds they do so preponderantly without any pre-conceived notions of racism.
I doubt whether racism can be totally eradicated but I am sure the vast majority of us view with abbhorrence the notion that one race is better than the other.

In Australia you can go to great lengths to show non-white people on programmes such as Neighbours or in ads yet the fact remains that the population of Australia today is vastly white so why try to insert characters in TV programmes or on the news, presenting, when it doesn’t reflect the actual population?
Aussies are just trying to copy the rest of the world, as usual when they really should be addressing the REAL issue of Aboriginal rights. Channel 7, how many Abos are on your shows and if so, why? There are NO black people in Australia apart from African immigrants. The indigenous population has no links to Africa, they came from South East Asia, millennia ago. Aussies should stop trying to jump on the “black” bandwagon and have a cool hard look at what’s been done and is still being done, to the real original inhabitants of the land they have occupied.

BFP this is a waste of time, everyone knew the 50’s USA was not only very racist but also anti-Liberal anything remotely progressive was either Pinko or Commie and most likely subject to Blacklisting! This is only of interest to historians tracking White Supremacy, time to forget and move on!
