Sporting Barbados – So good it should be considered a National Treasure?

A little birdie tells us that the hype about the new edition of Sporting Barbados was laid on very thickly at the World Travel Market this week with Tourism Minister Richard Sealy telling all that Sporting Barbados annual magazine is a “National treasure.”

Unlike our hyperbolic Tourism Minister (who was admittedly just doing his job and doing it well), we’re not going to call a magazine a “National Treasure” – but we are truly impressed with the new Sporting Barbados website and their 2012 issue available online now at SportingBarbados.com.

Sporting Barbados has always been an interesting and well executed, high end publication – but that very “high end” market focus might have kept their dead-tree (paper) edition from seeing wider distribution to the more ordinary folks who make up the bulk of our visitors.

That limitation was a shame because Sporting Barbados effectively delivers the message that our country is a great place for sports tourism – and when the sporting day is done, there’s lots more to do and see.

No worries about distribution and market reach now though, because the new SportingBarbados.com website is a compelling work of art for the eyes, extremely useful in researching and planning a sports vacation in Barbados and ‘sports’ (could’t help it!) a free electronic edition of the 2012 issue online.

Technically the website is fast, easy to read and uncluttered. It just works. Providing the content and events lists are continually updated so the site always remains current and accurate, Sporting Barbados.com could have a major impact in convincing sports-minded tourists to choose Barbados.

Sean Chandler, his Caribbean New Media team and everyone else involved in creating the new website should be proud of their work.

STORY UPDATED: New Information

In the credit where credit is due department, Sean Chandler wrote the following to BFP…

Thanks for the kind words re the sportingbarbados.com site. I would also like to point out that the website design was done by 809 Design, and that the website technical lead was Graeme Finlayson, fellow Director here at Caribbean New Media.
