Universal Rights Group publishes rubbish about The Maldives

Marc Limon - He did what? !

URG Executive Director Marc Limon – He did what??? !!!

Maldives… a liberal democracy with strong human rights safeguards?

Such SHITE.

Check out this statement by Universal Rights Group about their Executive Director, Marc Limon…

“Marc Limon worked as a diplomat (rank of Counsellor) at the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council from the body’s establishment in 2006 until the end of 2012. This included participating in the negotiations on the institution-building package (which determined how the Council would operate), on the Council’s mid-term review, and on a wide-range of thematic and country-specific issues over the course of twenty-one regular sessions and nineteen special sessions.

From 2003 onwards, Marc worked as a Senior Advisor to the Government of the Maldives, providing counsel to support the country’s democratic and human rights reform agenda. This agenda oversaw the Maldives’ peaceful transition from an Islamic autocracy to a liberal democracy with strong human rights safeguards. As part of this agenda, Marc was responsible for strengthening the Maldives’ engagement with the international human rights system. This included establishing a Permanent Mission in Geneva, coordinating the country’s accession to almost all international human rights conventions and the fulfilment of its reporting obligations, extending a Standing Invitation to all human rights Special Procedures, coordinating reporting under the Universal Periodic Review and, in 2010, working on the Maldives’ successful campaign for election to the Human Rights Council (the first time the country had ever been elected to a UN body)…”

Alright. Let’s get some things square from the start: I believe that the Universal Rights Group has a place, if only to try and convince the practitioners of barbaric religious and cultural traditions to stop killing folks who don’t believe the same thing they do, and also to stop mutilating women’s genitals in order to control them by depriving them of sexual pleasure and personhood.

So good for Marc Limon and his compatriots.

But when Universal Rights Group calls The Maldives a “liberal democracy”, well… they might as well just take more LSD or whatever drug they are doing because they have lost all fucking touch with reality.

Check out these past BFP articles, do a little independent research about The Maldives and then see if you can agree with URG’s statement that The Maldives are a “liberal democracy with strong human rights safeguards”.

Good Lord!

Women should boycott Maldives tourism

Maldives Holiday

Why vacation where women are second class and punished for being women?

15 year old incest rape victim sentenced to flogging for sex outside marriage

The Independent: Maldives government moves to halt public flogging of 15-year-old girl raped by stepfather

The photos of the Maldives are always so beautiful – deep blue skies, crystal clear water, calm seas and clean tranquil private resorts – but those tourism adverts hide a seething Islamic fundamentalism that has taken over the government and the island nation’s culture.

Beautiful islands, yes – but hostile to women, westerners and all non-Muslims that they call infidels. Be prepared to vacation in a culture of hate where the government and many in the population conceal their laws and feelings only long enough to grab your tourism dollars.

Pity the women born in The Maldives. Only Muslims are allowed Maldives citizenship – all other religions are barred from being citizens even if born in the Maldives.

Why should women tourists boycott the Maldives?

Girls are still married off at nine and ten years old, young women are often whipped for having sex outside marriage, rioters in the streets broke into the museum and destroyed exhibits of non-Muslim history and culture – smashing thousand year old Buddha statues and burning religious books.

The Maldives: where you will be jailed if they find you with a bible or an icon of Mary on your computer.

The Maldives: where couples are offered marriage renewal ceremonies on the beach with the Muslim Imam saying the ceremony in the local language. Couples smile at each other – not knowing that the Imam is calling them swine and infidels and saying worms will come from the husband’s penis because he is not Muslim. The resort staff nods and smiles to complete the marriage renewal farce. What an indication of the inner feelings for western tourists!

Hey… nice people those Maldives Islamist crazies!

As a woman, choosing between Maldives or Barbados for next year’s winter holiday, there really doesn’t seem to be much thought needed, does there?

How about a Maldives Wedding?

If you’re still not put off by the state of the world in The Maldives, how about planning to get married or renewing your vows there? You too can have a wonderful ceremony…  Continue reading

Vacation paradise Maldives: Sentences 16 year old girl to 100 lashes for sex

Sex outside marriage = flogging in Maldives

The Maldives used to be serious competition for Barbados tourism

A Maldives court has sentenced a 16 year old girl to be publicly whipped 100 times for having sex outside of marriage. Of course, under Maldives common practice the girl could have been married off and having sex at 9 years old because the Muslim Prophet Mohammed made that the rule. (The dirty old wanker!)

100 lashes is a tough go and women sometimes die from the punishment. No big deal because under Islamic law they are only women and thus their worth is lower than men in any number of areas including inheritance, being a witness in court and being subject to religiously sanctioned beatings in the event they do not obey their husband.

The Maldives are known for publicly flogging women, but more of this tough love Islam is happening lately and no doubt it will impact the tourism industry in the country. (Indian Express: Maldives’ Court sentences 16 year old girl to 100 lashes for sex act.)

But it’s good for Barbados!

As we pointed out in previous stories, this religious fervour by Maldives Muslims is good news for Barbados. The Maldives, a group of over 1,100 tiny coral islands, is often compared with Barbados as a vacation and retirement destination. Although far-removed from each other geographically, both countries compete for the same United Kingdom and European travelers.

In the last few years though, The Maldives has fallen under control of very religious Muslims who adhere to the rules of their faith as laid out in the Qur’an…

  • Islam is the official religion and no other religions are allowed. Non-Muslims are not allowed to be Maldives citizens.
  • Guest workers and tourists are not allowed to bring Bibles, Buddha statues or other non-Muslim religious articles into the Maldives.
  • Guest workers and tourists are not allowed to pray to any god but Allah.
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited except at a few tourist resorts, and efforts are underway to ban alcohol entirely.
  • Buddhist and Hindu exhibits were smashed at the Maldives National Museum so that all traces of the religions that preceded Islam have been removed from the public record.
  • In January 2012, the Maldives shut hundreds of resort spas as being ‘un-Islamic’, and the powerful opposition announced that it was studying the complete ban of music for the same reason.

We think that the choice is clear for British and European tourists.

Barbados or The Maldives? Let me think about it…

Barbados: Friendly people, great beaches, wonderful food, the best rum in the world and we don’t flog unmarried women for having sex or imprison Christians for possessing a bible or a rosary.

Honey… forget about the Islamic paradise of The Maldives… book two weeks of party, sun, rum and sex in Barbados – and don’t forget we want to see the changing of the sentries at The Garrison and do some coastal fishing with Shaun Sandiford.

Maldives continues to destroy its tourism industry – Buddhist, Hindu exhibits smashed at Maldives National Museum

Islamic coup proceeds with the next step: eradication of all non-Muslim history

“They have effectively erased all evidence of our Buddhist past”

Senior official with the now-closed and shuttered Maldives National Museum.

Barbados and The Maldives are half a world apart, but more closely related than you would think. Both economies rely almost exclusively upon tourism and offshore financial institutions – and both countries target the same tourist markets in the UK and Europe.

To tell the truth, the Maldives are probably more beautiful than Barbados if sand, sun and blue water is all you have in mind. But sand, sun and the ocean is all you had better have in mind because just about everything else is prohibited in The Maldives. Some exceptions are made for tourist resorts, but even those exceptions are ending. Last December all resort spas were shut down in response to public demands for more Islamic laws and standards. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the country except for certain limited resorts.

Islam is the only religion allowed in the Maldives. Possession of a Bible, Hindu or Buddhist prayer book is forbidden upon penalty of imprisonment. Women are regularly flogged for pre-marital sex. Only Muslims can be citizens. Islamic Shari’ah law is written into the constitution.

Last week the first democratically elected government in 30 years was toppled by a coup. The new President just appointed a number of Islamic hardliners to Cabinet and the fundamentalists responded in their joy by attacking the Maldives Museum and destroying all Buddhist history exhibits, including priceless 12th century statues.

Destruction of non-Islamic history is standard operating procedure for Muslim fundamentalists. It happened in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. In Afghanistan the fundamentalists lopped the heads off all statues in their museum and even destroyed the famous 1500-year old Bamiyan Buddha statues, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. So don’t go to The Maldives and expect to see any history outside of Islam – you’ll be greatly disappointed.

What does the Maldives coup mean for Barbados tourism?

While we’re sorry that The Maldives is moving back to the 7th Century brutality and darkness of Islamic rule, it is apparently happening with the support of the exlusively Muslim citizenry. The instability, unfriendly laws and Islamic supremacist attitudes will undoubtedly have negative consequences on the number of UK and European visitors to the islands – and Barbados should be in a good position to pick up some new business. Barbados is a wonderful, welcoming country with lots more to see and do than just sitting on the beach.

Business is business and while our competition is destroying itself, our Barbados Tourism Authority should be actively promoting our product in the same tourist markets as Barbados better than the Maldives in so many ways.

The Maldives coup and rise of Islamic fascism in the islands will cause many tourists to reconsider their Maldives vacations. Many will be going someplace else and our BTA should be working hard to ensure that “someplace else” is Barbados.

Muslim supremacists take down Maldives government – Great news for Barbados tourism!

Democracy and Western Tourism ending in The Maldives

President Mohamed Nasheed resigns, announces Maldives “unable to maintain peace and security.”

The President of The Maldives was forced to resign today (February 7, 2012) as the Islamist vision for the country triumphed. The police force sided with Islamic hardliners and rebelled against the first democratically elected government in decades. (CNN: Maldives president resigns after police revolt)

President Nasheed had faced strong criticism in recent months from opposition groups calling for Islam to play a greater role in the running of the country.

In January hundreds of rioters in the capital city of Male said that the Maldives government was under the influence of “Jews” and “Christian priests” to weaken Islam in the country. Last December the government shut hundreds of resort spas as “Un-Islamic”, but that wasn’t enough for the hardliners who said that booze and “lustful music” were the next targets.

All this despite that The Maldives relies almost exclusively upon tourism as the engine of its otherwise barren economy. Sure…take away spas, beer, pork, bikini and offer to renew tourists’ wedding vows with ceremonies that insult them… That sounds like a real plan for tourism success in The Maldives!

But as we pointed out in previous stories, this is good news for Barbados. The Maldives, a group of over 1,100 tiny coral islands, is often compared with Barbados as a vacation and retirement destination. Although far-removed from each other geographically, both countries compete for the same United Kingdom and European travelers.

We think that the choice just became clear for British and European tourists:

Maldives Muslim crazies are good news for Barbados Tourism

Maldives shuts hundreds of resort spas as “Un-Islamic”

Booze and “lustful music” next targets

In its latest implementation of Islamic sharia law, the Maldives government has ordered the closing of all resort and massage spas after thousands of Maldivians held protests calling for the elimination of the spas, which they call brothels and un-Islamic. We’re not just talking about closing the “rub and a tug” massage spas in the sidestreets: the facial spa at the Hilton is gone too!

The Maldives, a group of over 1,100 tiny coral islands, is often compared with Barbados as a vacation and retirement destination. Although far-removed from each other geographically, both countries compete for the same United Kingdom and European travelers. We at BFP think that the level of competition just dropped a notch or two…

Reading the magazine articles and watching the Travel Channel, you’d think that the Maldives is some sort of vacation paradise – for the islands and the surrounding Laccadive Sea are beautiful – but a virulent strain of Muslim fundamentalism has infected the population and threatens the island nation’s tourism-based economy.

Over 800,000 tourists arrived in 2011 with many Europeans and Australians among them. 60,000 British tourists arrived in 2007 which is the last year I could find statistics for.

The numbers of Western, Chinese and Japanese tourists visiting the Maldives are sure to decline though as prospective travelers read some of the news from the vacation, er, “paradise”.

The rise of Islamic fundamentalism in the Maldives can’t be a bad thing for Barbados tourism. If our competition wants to shut out millions of prospective visitors from markets we compete in, that’s just fine with Bajans!

Let’s look at some of the reasons why non-Muslim tourists are starting to reject The Maldives…

Violent Muslims: 2007 Terror Bombing

In September of 2007, violent Muslims set off a bomb in Sultan Park in the Maldavian capital of Malé. 12 foreign tourists were injured, including Chinese, Japanese and a honeymooning British couple who were severely injured.

Twelve terrorists (some of whom were government officials) were arrested. Some of the convicted bombers were released from jail after only three years. An Immigration officer who assisted the terrorists to leave the island spent only a year in jail.

Only three years for a Jihad terror bombing that severely injured many tourists, and one year for helping the escape. That really says everything, doesn’t it?

Increasing Muslim terrorist connections

The rise of fundamentalist Islam in the Maldives has brought the usual violent Muslims with it. India is now concerned that the Maldives are being used as a base for violent Muslims to attack southern India. Muslim terrorists base themselves where they are able to thrive and the Maldives obviously meets their needs. Recent talks between India, Pakistan and the Maldives have tried to address the issue of the latest Maldives export: violent Muslims.

But the Maldives Government tries to be “friendly” with the Muslim fanatics because they are popular… and violent.

As one report put it:

Spread of Islamic extremism began not just recently, it has been spreading in the country since many years, but the country was in denial until late 2009. On 25th October 2009, the country’s president Mohamed Nasheed admitted for the first time that Maldivians are being involved in regional terrorist activities. He also mentioned that his government has evidence of Maldivian involvement in 26/11 Mumbai attack. Days after his comments, a video of a Maldivian who blew himself at the Intelligence headquarters in Lahore, Pakistan circulated in the internet.

Despite all the comments and evidence, Maldives government has been unable to tackle the issue for obvious reasons. Religion plays an important role in country’s politics, and no party would like to disappoint the so called religious groups who control a huge number of voters.

Friendly Maldivians call honeymoon couple “swine”, “infidels”, “Pork eaters”

“You are swine and infidels… Worms may come from the tip of your penis”

“You are below a mother fucker… Your children will be bastard swine”
