Increasing calls and cancellations concern Barbados hotels as gas woes continue

Barbados Free Press has learnt that tourism and restaurant industry workers are starting to talk about calls and cancellations of bookings from foreign tourists concerned about online reports of the natural gas shortage and ruined vacations in Barbados. “Things are getting worse, not better, and the cancellations are starting because we can’t guarantee we’ll have hot water and full menus” one person wrote to BFP.

In late December and early January the Daily Mail, Yahoo! News, X-Factor News and others reported the natural gas shortage on the West Coast, and that his holiness Simon Cowell was inconvenienced by not being able to have his favourite sheppard’s pie at the Lone Star Restaurant. With that bit of celebrity news, the story spread on the internet.

So it is no surprise after almost three months of shortages, that TripAdvisor Barbados forums are all abuzz with tourist tales and concerns about spoiled vacations because of the ongoing gas shortage.

The natural gas shortage should be no surprise either to the Barbados government – at least to a competent government that realises how critical it is to our tourism based economy that restaurants, hotels and resorts have gas to cook and for hot water and laundry. It’s pretty basic, don’t you think?

It is unreal to think that in this day and age that the Hotel sector could be put out of cooking gas in the height of the Tourist Season, remember that most of our Tourist are repeat Tourist. The have come to see us hit rock bottom.
What would the rest of World think of this silly situation. Is it Haiti here we come ?

After Tomas I was hiking the Farmer’s Gully …. probably January 2011.

The Natural Gas pipeline from Turner’s Hall Woods passes along this gully, high up on the side, and then crosses it and follows Highway 2a towards town.

This line had been damaged by the falling trees and escaping natural gas could be clearly heard down in the bottom of the gully.

I reported it to the NPC.

I would hate to think this could be the cause four years later!!

Shortage of Natural Gas has nothing to do with leaks, piping, over useage etc., IT’S ALL TO DO WITH POOR MANAGEMENT OF A NATURAL RESOURCE THAT IS DEPLETED, NO MORE GAS, AND THE FAILURE TO HAVE A SOLUTION IN PLACE WHEN THE GAS RAN OUT. TYPICAL BLACK MANAGEMENT.

BFP. To validate what you claim, could you provide referenced links to some of the disparaging remarks made by tourists identifying their concerns about gas shortages.

Without these, we are inclined to agree that you are aiming for sensationalism in an attempt to fuel dissatisfaction withing the larger Barbadian public.

We look forward to your timely response with the facts.

@The Spook Who sat by the door

“attempt to fuel dissatisfaction withing the larger Barbadian public”

I would not know how to do the above — Bajans appear not to be dissatisfied with ANYTHING as they continue to put up with all the POLITICAL HORSESHIT that continually flows from the government, statutory boards, ministers, BLP, DLP, Clico etc. that no one can rouse a DEAD HORSE.

DISSATISFACTION is not about to happen, there are NO Martin Luther Kings in Barbados.

SPOOK — you might want to do a little research on Barbados’s OIL and NATURAL GAS situation being VERY CAREFUL to filter the Political crap and move past the Worrell comments about 2% growth etc.

spook say “BFP. To validate what you claim, could you provide referenced links to some of the disparaging remarks made by tourists identifying their concerns about gas shortages.”

    Google it and stfu!

I am referring to the statement made by the original poster:

“So it is no surprise after almost three months of shortages, that TripAdvisor Barbados forums are all abuzz with tourist tales and concerns about spoiled vacations because of the ongoing gas shortage.”

If this statement s correct, then this individual should be able to furnish us with links/references indicating the validity of these statements.

As to whether your hyperbolic statement regarding the current threshold of Bajan dissatisfaction, this is irrelevant to my previous request. I am simply interested in reviewing the specific facts regarding the original poster’s statements.

    I eagerly await these relevant references/internet posts/comments.

Spook , you are a boring , educated idiot ! I say educated because you write quite well . Unfortunately, whatever you write is garbage. Why should anyone provide you with “relevant references/internet posts/comments.”
Are you some sort of legal counsel or Judge?
Look it up yourself.Trip Advisor Forums are open to public viewing .
And BTW , stop threatening BFP…..after all they have your e mail address and your computer address .. You don’t have theirs.

  9. The Spook Who sat by the door

You made the claims about complaints. I could not locate them at the website. The burden of proof is on you to supply the evidence. This is common sense.

If you cannot, then the only conclusion is that you were spreading more rumors.

I would also like you to identify where I have ‘threatened’ or committed any acts considered in breach of the law such that you would find it necessary hint at revealing my public identity…

Spook..your memory is short..on Jan 19th 2015 5.59 am, you wrote (on the story about the Nigerians in Barbados) the following…

“BFP, I am calling you out for what you are; A covert arm of Racism/White Supremacy, pretending to have the best interest of Barbadians.

BFP and company. you are officially on our hit list now and all you cowardly, racist/white supremacy bigots WILL be exposed for who and what you are. Tread lightly from now on.

I must thank you for a job well done. You finally awoken the sleeping giants”.

Sounds like a threat to me Spooky boy!
Go ahead, BS yourself out of this..I see you for what you are , a racist bully.

  11. The Spook Who sat by the door

    Ahhh, so predictable…

Understand that It is entirely possible for something verbalized to be THREATENING to a person or group, even though it would not be considered an actual THREAT within the eyes of the law. Now consider that what might be considered threatening to one group will not necessarily be considered threatening to another.

By your own admission, what I have stated in previous threads and that you have reposed as well, is admittedly threatening TO YOU, BFP and company. So, what we must do now, readers, is ask ourselves… why this might be the case?

As was made very clear both by you and me is that I suspect BFP to be representative of a covert arm of Racism/White Supremacy, pretending to have the best interest of Barbadians. What was also made very clear is that these individuals who skulk behind the veil of internet anonymity WILL be exposed to the public for who and what they are.

What we also have established that many of BFP’s co-conspirators are very viable and ‘respected’ in the public eye. To this end, it will be extremely detrimental to these individuals both socially and financially when their identities are made accessible to public scrutiny (not necessarily through the direct actions of myself, or even through this forum, but elsewhere.)

Note that the above quotes are the only examples you could offer as evidence for why you should feel threatened. By this fact alone, you have betrayed your guilt, and have simultaneously given credence to my accusations.

There should be no reason for feeling threatened in any way shape or form, if my allegations were false. On the otherhand, as the saying goes, if you throw a brick into an assorted pack of docs, the one who yelps the loudest is usually the one the brick hits the hardest.

In this case, that dog is none other than you.

Finally, I am certain that what you meant to suggest was that I was a “counter-racist bully” because yes; we take great pride in bullying Racist/White Supremacists into submission. You are the scourge of the planet that all right thinking human beings must participate in ridding the world of once and for all.

    So said, so done.

Spook, you idiot, you are not talking to BFP, nor was BFP talking to you. Those comments are from me,*Anonymous”.
You said ” What was also made very clear is that these individuals who skulk behind the veil of internet anonymity WILL be exposed to the public for who and what they are.”
Is this why you don’t use an ID, but instead use your real name on this blog? Or are you skulking behind the veil of internet anonymity?

If BFP wanted to, they could take down your stupid postings and block you from posting future garbage. They are , however, interested in FREE PRESS….hence the name, Barbados Free Press. They don’t have to “threaten” you with anything, so your belief that they are “A covert arm of Racism/White Supremacy” is laughable and exposes your ignorance and
    racist/anti white thinking.
