Latest election-call quote from Prime Minister Stuart cut short in Nation article

Freundel Stuart Barbados

What the Nation reported Freundel Stuart said…

“Ready yourselves because you will be hearing from me very shortly and when that time comes we go into the battlefield with our loins girded and with all the breastplates of political righteousness.” (Get ready!)

What he REALLY said…

“Ready yourselves because you will be hearing from me very shortly and when that time comes we go into the battlefield with our loins girded and with all the breastplates of political righteousness and it is really too bad that our promised Integrity Legislation never made it into law just like Barbados Free Press predicted. Don’t worry, jus give us another five wonderful years with our hands in the cookie jar and we’ll pass that into law next time. Honest.”

  1. PLANTATION DEEDS FROM 1926-2013 AND SEE MASSIVE FRAUD ,LAND TAX BILLS AND NO DEEDS

Voting for crooks to pass Fraud in to Law.

  2. Cornwell

No amount of lies or besmirching the name of the late PM David Thompson is going to get the BLP back into power.
The BLP need a good bush bath at a 4 cross road.

  3. Even if the legislation was passed, what difference would it make ? There are many existing laws which are not used or ways are found to prevent them being effective, theft for example.
We need a whole cultural change where Barbadians become a bit more honest and the usual “man ef it was me I would do de same so”

  4. Additional Services

the BLP hooligans are going to get a beating from our of this blasted world. OSA is a done man.

Can someone explain, in a single paragraph of forty words or fewer, what exactly is the ideological, political, programmatic, policy difference between the BLP and the DLP? That is, apart from personalities and personal hopes about who (and whose spouse or sibling or cousin) will get a snout in the trough? Can anyone explain the ideological and political difference between the two parties?

  6. There used to be a difference where one party appeared to actually believe in democracy as a form of government, rather than a system they had to “put up with” or “fiddle” or “get a work around on” to get elected and so “rule over us”. Now of course there is no difference and we are seeing the great weakness of democracy where any base appeal to the majority however ignorant they are just to get elected. People get the government they deserve !

Drumbeat I agree with you 100%, they are all thieves & robbers, they should all be put in jail. The present government no better than the last, all in it for what they can get out of it for themselves and their families.

We’re obviously naive if believe for once that there is such a thing as perfection within the medium of human government. The concept of government especially our democratic one, is just an idea projected in our minds, thats all.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the human-affairs, our faults and failings gets in the way most of the time.

  11. Jack Bowman

Who gives a shit which party governs Barbados?

Serious question. Who gives a shit? Who? Name ONE person who doesn’t have a stake in the game. What difference can it possibly make to the world (answer: zero)? Unless you or your spouse or sibling or cousin or nephew or niece has any possibility of getting a snout in the trough, what difference does it make to ANYONE which party wins?

I want to know. Just trying to learn

“Ready yourselves because you will be hearing from me very shortly and when that time comes we go into the battlefield with our loins girded and with all the breastplates of political righteousness”
Can anyone tell me what Political Righteousness is? Can Politics and Righteousness have any communion together? Whether this quote was reported in its totality by the Nation Newspaper, edited or truncated it for maximum effect, I don’t think it was a smart comment. By now(as of the time of this writing) Barbadians are really fed up and frustrated with the PM and his gamesmanship with respect to the calling of the General Elections. People are going to vote how they see fit. No amount of poling or statistical acrobats is going to change that. The PM needs to hand over the leadership of the DLP to someone who the public believes is capable of running the country and galvanizing the party. But selfishness and pomposity with this group of oldsters will be declared null and void at the polls on the day the bell rings!
Mr.PM heed us and heed us well. The electorate has changed. We can easily decipher fluff and incoherent mutterings. We want to hear substance. Before you call the elections, make sure you have substance to deliver else your defeat will be legendary.
Heed up and heed us well!

I think it is safe to say we are really some distance from perfection, and over time it seems to me that we are moving even further away and I would very much like to be going in the other direction, with perhaps some improvement.
I am not one to complain about how much the government can do for us, we can do it ourselves, the more independent we are the better, after all if we are completely dependent on the government then they have all the power and we have to cow tow,

We have to be willing to face the fact that those we elect to govern our highest offices, are less than perfect. So with this theory in mind, we should obviously anticipate that their will surely fall short of our expectations of public office.

  15. Sounds like a good reason to try and get our best people into public office and if these are our best then heaven help us.

  16. Sure but how are you going to encourage the best into participating, easier for them just to work somewhere else. Remember people get the government they deserve.

  17. Well Well

Thing is with two parties that are interchangeable and a population of less than 300,000 with the same asinine mentality, the people will continue to get the government they deserve for some more decades to come, if some drastic change does not occur.
