Mitt Romney fund-raiser hosted on yacht Cracker Bay – by Barbados Port Ferdinand developer

After reading ‘Confessions of an Economic Hit Man‘ it is always interesting to see the connections surface – even if I don’t understand them and don’t have the knowledge to sort the meaningful observations from the mundane.

So Port Ferdinand developer Gary Morse gave a million dollars to the Romney campaign and also hosted a little unannounced get-together for billionaires, Romney relatives and politicians on his rowboat… does that undermine democracy or is it just the way things are?

And while our own DLP and BLP politicians probably don’t receive a million US dollars at one go, you can bet their palms have been filled in some form or another, whether they admit it or not. The difference, of course, is that the US election financing laws put structure and rules on elections and campaign money. In Barbados we have no rules and zero transparency when it comes to political financing… and that is the way that Owen Arthur, Freundel Stuart and their corrupt cabals like it!

  1. Feeding time at the piggy trough

At least the Yanks are able to produce a list of who gave what so the political favours can be monitored after the election. As imperfect as the system is it is better than nothing which is what we have in Bim.

  2. You are quite mistaken when you say that there are no rules when it comes to political financing. The problem here is that both sides ignore them and the bodies that are in place to police the rules refuse to enforce them.

  3. at least we can rest assured that the glad handing and campaign financing by morse to romney only lasts until the subpoenas and arrest warrants are handed down by grand juries. thats how thinks are done in america once corruption is detected.

  4. Bad Bob

Yes, I shocked, Shocked! that a fundraiser was held for Romney.
Wait a minute, this just over the wire–“Red Chinese Communists shovel dollars to BaBa Obama and his Forty Thieves via accounts held in Industrial and Commerce Bank of China [based in the USA].”
Oh, Mercy! I guess that’s OK. At least it’s going to a good cause….

  5. one must understand that china now holds most of americas debts and has been for some years, and am sure they more than likely have majority shares in large corporations there just like the saudis, however, the first whiff of corruption will be exposed. can we say the same for bim.

  6. Bad Bob

The USA & BIM should be proud of the fact that we have some of the best politicians that money can buy.
Why go cheap-when we can get real quality?

  7. campaign financing is totally legal in USA, its only when laws are broken it hits the fan. can anyone say allen sanford, mr/sir antigua. if the caribbean governments would stop acting like these white crooks/con artists are saviours and manna sent from heaven, then they wont be indicted along with them. black local leaders its time to use ur brains to create jobs and opportunities for own people instead of waiting for foreign crooks to do it. thats why tax payers are paying u a monthly salary.

Mitt Romney: International Man of Mystery

It’s amazing what the new media ignores (or forgets).

Romney won’t reveal his tax returns?

    No problem.

Bain Capital is a TOTALLY different company from the widely respected Bain & Company which Romney worked for and essentially stole the name of?

    No problem.

Bain Capital managed a 150%++ average annual return for ten years running making money in ways they won’t talk about?

    No problem.

Romney is Bush Sr. and Cheney’s choice for President?

    No problem.

Romney’s money man at Bain was an USAID school teacher who just happened to know lots of deep pocketed Central Americans who funded Bain through complex Panamanian corporate structures and bank accounts?

    No problem.

    Thirty years ago…

Bush Sr’s involvement with drug dealing was common knowledge

Note to all the hissy-fit Romney supporters who think that BrasscheckTV is pro-Obama. Please just spare yourself the aggravation and unsubscribe. We don’t need idiots on this list. We’ve published as many exposes of Obama’s corruption that any other news outlet on earth.

  10. one thing we have learned about the american electorate is that they love the glamor of conmen, even when it cost them 2 wars, their homes and all their jobs. obama will try to undo the damage done by the REPUBLICANS but all his efforts will be easily forgotten by the seduction of arrogance, greed, lies, big useless egos, the extreme thirst for power at all cost, and the facade created by billionaires. once again the population will suffer because of bad choices.

For people that that think politicians in the Caribbean are only dealing with small amounts of money, here is an article from Offshore Alert about the dealings of Birds from Antigua…..our own disgraced ex-prime minister Thomson who sent a huge kickback on the purchase of a private jet by the CLICO principals was in a category all by himself when it comes to living off the proceeds of crime…….but here is latest from Antigua:
Details of a long-running criminal investigation into alleged fraud, corruption, extortion, and money laundering by former Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Lester Bird and his associates are contained in documents that were recently unsealed at federal court in Miami.

The documents, including several requests for judicial assistance that Antigua made to the U. S. Department of Justice from 2004 to 2009, were filed at the U. S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida in a case that began on January 14, 2005 when the local U. S. Attorney applied to the court for the appointment of a Commissioner to collect evidence from Wachovia Bank, in Miami. That and all subsequent filings were made under seal in order not to jeopardize the investigation in Antigua. The filings were unsealed and the case closed on May 22, 2012 after the U. S. informed the court that: “The United States has taken the necessary actions in this case and has determined that there is no further need to keep this case sealed or open.”

The documents go into several alleged schemes to defraud the Antigua Government of millions of dollars and launder the proceeds through accounts at several onshore and offshore banks, including, but not limited to, The Bank of Bermuda and The Bank of N. T. Butterfield & Son, both in Bermuda; HSBC, in the Isle of Man and Jersey; Bank Vontobel, in Switzerland; Wachovia Bank, in Miami, Florida; and Mellon Bank, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Alleged participants include Lester Bird, who was Antigua’s Prime Minister from 1994 to 2004; Asot Michael, who was Bird’s Chief of Staff; Asot Michael’s mother, Josette Michael; John E. St. Luce, former Minister of Finance; Robin Yearwood, former Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation; Bruce Rappaport, Antigua’s former Ambassador to Russia and Israel who died in 2010; and Sir Ronald Sanders, Antigua’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

While the main allegations of criminality concern the repayment of a construction loan between Government of Antigua and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., of Japan, other examples of alleged corruption are contained in the documents.

For example, there are purported excerpts of letters that Bird allegedly wrote to Rappaport asking for money. On August 20, 1998, Bird asked for a US$1 million contribution to his “election campaign” to be paid to an account at the Bank of Bermuda, following which “I will arrange immediately for you to be accredited as Ambassador to Israel”. Bird asked for an additional US$100,000 on June 25, 2003 to pay for “a poll and other pre-election payments”, another US$100,000 on December 17, 2003 “to pay for an order of hams and turkeys for my Constituents”, and $500,000 “within next 24 hours” on January 28, 2004, it was alleged.

It was also claimed that, from October, 2001 to February, 2004, the prominent “Hadeed Family” of Antigua transferred US$4.3 million into a bank account associated with Asot and Josette Michael and that, when interviewed by investigators on February 15, 2005, Aziz Hadeed stated that Lester Bird and Asot Michael regularly extorted money from his family. “All the wealthy businessmen in Antigua got hit these ways … I have several other extortion examples,” stated Aziz Hadeed. “In each case, Asot Michael would create a false tax liability, would cause a problem to stall release of import goods or regulatory approval until he got his money from me. Asot also used this approach to force me to contribute to his March 2004 election campaign.” When asked “What does Asot Michael have over Lester Bird?”, Hadeed replied: “Lester Bird has a weakness for life’s comforts, especially women. Asot Michael would pay for all the women and give everything that Lester Bird wanted. This then caused Lester Bird to facilitate the means for Asot Michael to get his own comforts in return.” Hadeed estimated that, in all, his family had given Michael between US$5.5 million and US$7.5 million, adding that “I got tired of it” and switched his support to Spencer Baldwin, who has been Prime Minister since his United Progressive Party beat Bird’s Antigua Labour Party in the General Election of March, 2004 and has been Antigua’s Prime Minister ever since.

In the three days before being ousted from power in the 2004 election, Bird attempted to cover up his corrupt activities by removing “boxes and files” from Government offices, claimed investigators.

Here’s an interesting factoid; apparently some of shyster and money launderer extraordinaire Alan Stanford’s ex-employees have now found “gainful” employment working for a Romney family company, Solamere Advisors.

I am sure all is entirely above board and these ex-Stanford employees would not have been hired by the Romneys for their connections to South American drug lords in need of money laundering service or for their know-how when it comes to bypassing government banking regulations, bribing politicians or regulators to look the other way, or defrauding pensioners and the naive of their money. No doubt the Romney’s just felt it was their civic duty to give these unemployed outcasts a second chance to straighten up and fly right.

Employees of Romney family’s secret bank tied to fraud, money laundering, drug cartels and the CIA

As previously reported in by the Columbus Free Press, the Romney family, namely Mitt, Ann, G Scott and Tagg Romney, along with Mitt’s “6th son” and campaign finance chair have a secretive private equity firm called Solamere Capital Partners. This firms ties to Romney’s campaign and bundlers is already well documented, along with its connection to the manufacture and distribution of voting machines. What is not as well documented is a subsidiary of that private equity firm hiring employees of a failed firm tied to a Ponzi scheme that has a long history of money laundering for Latin American drug cartels and to the Iran-Contra scandal.

As reported by ThinkProgress, Solamere Capital Partner’s subsidiary Solamere Advisors is a investment advisory group, providing advice to Solamere clients and boosting sales. Would-be corporate pugilist Tagg Romney is a director. According to the New York Times, all but one of its 11 employees came from the Charlotte office of the Stanford Financial Group, the US investment arm of convicted felon R. Allen Stanford’s offshore banking and fraud network that comprised a host of companies including the Stanford International Bank, Stanford Capital Management, The Bank of Antigua, Stanford Trust and Stanford Gold and Bullion. Three of these employees, Tim Bambauer, Deems May, and Brandon Phillips, received incentive compensation related to their direct sales of securities linked to a fraud that brought down this banking network.
