Environment Minister Lowe surprised that environmental laws are needed

It cost us how much to send Dr. Lowe to South Africa?

by WSD

Should Bajans laugh or cry about Minister Lowe’s recent press conference? Maybe we should do both.

Doctor Lowe just returned from a junket to an environmental conference in Durban, South Africa and appears to have come to some great new understanding of what he and his DLP government should have been doing for the past four years:

“Can you imagine the kind of work that needs to be done to put legislation in place, because all of these things need to be governed under legislative frameworks?”

Environment Minister Denis Lowe speaks to the Barbados Advocate in Harsher Penalties!

Why yes; Bajans CAN imagine that laws are needed. As a matter of fact that’s one of the reasons why we elected Dr. Lowe and the DLP four years ago: they promised to deliver on much-needed environmental legislation that the BLP failed to put in place in their 14 years in government.

What did we get for our vote? Four years later Environment Minister Denis Lowe returns from a conference and says “Whoaloss! We have to make environmental legislation! Who could have known that?”

Lowe also called for “tougher penalties”.

Mr. Lowe should ask the man in the mirror about those penalties because it was Environment Minister Lowe himself who failed to implement any new environmental laws, penalties or enforcement for the past four years.

The Dees want my vote again? Not until Hell freezes over.

  2. Disingenuous

Every four years or so, the lights come on but no one is home

This is Barbados version of a Zombie and the Life of the Living Dead

    @ Minister Lowe

The penalties for polluters in this country must be increased to fit the gravity of the crime. (Erase polluters substitute criminals).

You continued, “We have to make sure there is some relationship between the gravity of these crimes and the penalty attached. Right now it is laughable and that is the truth. …It has to be addressed.”

The above statement can be attached to a number of issues related to the Bajan justice system especially if connected to any BIG-UPS, and if it wasn’t so TRAGIC it would be laughable THAT YOU FIND IT LAUGHABLE.

As for reporting anything it is a complete waste of time depending on who is being reported on, the report is most likely to end up in the trash can and nothing will be done OR THEY SIMPLY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY REPORTS. I am speaking from experience.

Remember this part of his statement

“Can you imagine the kind of work that needs to be done to put legislation in place”,
CAN’T HAVE THE GOVERNMENT BEING ASKED TO DO ANY WORK NOW CAN WE?
If it involves any kind of work for GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS then it is a definite non-starter.

    HOW IS THIS FOR ENFORCING.

A report was made involving a business making false statements on an official Government document and one of the owners actually admitted to the Government department that it was a false statement, (remember that the document itself has a bottom line which says that false statements may result in a fine or imprisonment or BOTH. The response from the department involve was ” it will cost too much time and money to pursue the business legally”. (GREAT RESPONSE). LESSON TO BUSINESSES CARRY ON TREATING YOUR STAFF LIKE S**TE because no one in this Government or their official representatives gives a damn.

Another report was made by at least 4 people about an illegal living and working here while legal Bajans in the same business are being constructively dismissed. He was told to leave over a year ago. He is still living at the same address and working at the same location over a year later. LESSON TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CARRY ON ABUSING THE SYSTEM BECAUSE NO ONE OFFICIAL GIVES A DAMN.

    HOW IS THAT FOR ENFORCEMENT.

These ministers talk because they have a mouth and us fools actually believe that they have some interest in the things they talk about, what a load of bull.

I personally wouldn’t might just Durban, but let us not forget Copenhagen (once or twice) and Greenland (the island) and then we only see our parliamentary representative once in for years.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Barbadian politician?

    1. For me: Get rich in the fastest possible time that is available
    2. Ensure that all government awarded contracts are given to friends, family members for the ever awaiting draw back
    3. Make alot of noise and promises and you will win votes
    4. Make sure there is enough bribery money around the time of elections
    5. Travel the world in style; it cost nothing when you are elected

Join my campaign…I have sent a jolly Christmas card to all of the Cabinet saying “Merry Christmas. Now for Christ’s sake resign or go to the country and let the people decide!” – No reply or action so far but I live in hope.

  7. Surprise, surprise! No one should be surprised. Someone alluded to fact that some politicians get elected to secure a decent pension and notoriety. The people they claimed to represent are way down the pecking order.

Environmental laws are well overdue in Barbados.

(1)Carl Moore has fought almost single handed to get noise legislation in placed.

(2)Dennis Lowe or no other politician will fight to protect those in society, because society haven’t got deep pockets, like those who pollute our land and being allowed to go free.

    (3) Our most vulnerable in society, elderly and young are desperately trying to breathe through the black smoke from some vehicles on the roads. Who cares?

    (4) One can walk into most cart roads to find old mattresses, cookers, fridges, you name it! Reason: No one gives a damn! Has anyone been prosecuted for such?

    (5) Noise has now become a norm on the Island. The once village shop has now become a hive of activity with music blearing out well late into the night keeping decent people awake. How can our children perform in the classroom the next day? How can the working man perform in his job the next day?

BLP,DLP: As I write, there are more of us who can see beyond the tales you have told!

It is ‘high time for a new party with vision, transparency and a belief in the people you care to represent. The others (ABOVE) have failed miserably.

I hold no ill feelings towards Dr Denis Lowe but I would say you are the worst Mininster of the Environment. It seems that some alarm has gone off in your head. No support from you for the efforts of the Future Centre Trust. Imagine you went to Korea and Durban and still promoting a Waste to Energy plant at a cost of $400 million. You score high on talking pretty but zero on execution. Deceitfulness in not a trait of my persona thus you know how I feel. Get off your lazy bottom and work for the betterment of the environment. Oh buy the way not all Barbadian have aircondiotioned vehicles to escape the excessive vehicular pollution!

  9. Name

“You score high on talking pretty -but zero on execution. ”

Now isn’t that just ‘The Usual’ bout here??

  10. Observer

Has Dr. Lowe taken a good look around Barbados recently/ Perhaps he is still “on leave”! Barbados is now Bushbados, grass covers road signs and encroaches on pavements and walking paths. It’s Christmas day and garbage remains uncollected. My neighborhood in St. Philip has had erratic collection patterns for months, and we are surprised by rats all around. Give me a flipping break, this country is falling apart, the place stink man stink…
