“The answer seems clear to me – you have to grant Police better Allowances if you want them to stay, you certainly cannot look at Overseas pool of resources to handle crime in Barbados if you are not delivering a better monetary package than where they originate from; and you can’t pay Foreigners better than Locals, so where is the next step?”
Ian Bourne tells Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite that we have a problem attracting and keeping police officers and that the government just doesn’t get it.
For the record, we at BFP agree.

You ask Why?
So we can invite corruption into our failing society
-just like the Big Boys!
Obviously it’s so much easier for us to “afford” corruption
than to double their salaries FORTHWITH.
You figure out which option will cost any nation more, in the long run.
You’re not stupid.

FOUR OF THE MOST IMPORTANT JOBS in any society:
* NURSES -they are the slaves of the medical industry!
* GARBAGE COLLECTORS -they clean up after us!
*POLICEMEN / WOMEN -they have the envious job of handling our criminal retards!
* TEACHERS -they educate our ENTIRE FUTURE as a nation!
All four categories get paid piss-poor!
WHY anyone would want to be any of those four….it would have to be a Calling!
I agree with go figure a 100%.
This is not only a Barbados problem. It’s everywhere. The qualified Nurses here get a good starting salary; but the Sanitation, teachers and policemen, and add to that the Fire Men, they salaries could be a lot better.
@ GO FIGURE
I am with you on that one, any society that is willing to allow sportsmen and sportswomen to earn more money than the people that saves lives has got its priorities real messed up, I think that means that the whole world is messed up doesn’t it. However the people that allow such situations to exist (Government) have all the opportunities to make handsome sums for themselves. At the end of the day the whole world is in the CRAPPER because of CORRUPT GOVERNMENTS. Some people take on such jobs Police, Nursing, Fire service, Teaching, Sanitation because those jobs appear to be somewhat more secure than many other professions, that is not to say that some do not answer a Calling. There are many genuinely good people working in the PUBLIC SERVICES for low pay and I believe they deserve better. However if they ask for more money they are then accused of holding the country to ransom, but taxpayers money can be used and often is used for a lot of FRIVOLOUS reasons whenever the powers that be wishes (STOP WASTING MONEY FLYING AROUND FOR A LOT A LONG TALK AND RAISE SOME PUBLIC WORKERS PAY). BTW ever noticed the standard of some security personnel (they couldn’t catch a cold) I wonder if that has anything to do with their level of pay. I always say you get what you pay for, (don’t always work in Barbados though, sometimes you don’t get even though you have paid) I believe that low pay is why so much of our more talented people take jobs abroad, to be paid better for their services and to better their lives. Following that kind of logic will leave me to believe that we then get left with the lesser talented of any generation.
Yes, it’s everywhere (most Western nations) -not just Barbados.
All part of the current malady affecting the world
as it slips into decay and decadence at the end of this era.
Here’s Part 2 – Other night I was at Savannah for RSS Staff & Command Training Closing Ceremony, and I ended up being essentially only Media (Nation arrived after Adriel Brathwaite spoke), and I found a delicious irony in Mr Brathwaite’s speech, check it out http://bit.ly/sYFolk
No warning shots. Just plain cold blooded shooting from some illiterate police. Did I hear the Commissioner of Police of Barbados say he want to recruit police from other islands. OMG. I wondering if the Guyana Police Force got training from the Egyptians, Chinese or Israelis like other militaries throughout the caribbean to the worry of the US?
Trigger happy jackasses.
For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction!!
Nuff said.
What do we expect from the idiots that we have as a government in this country. $40mil/$50mil to throw away on Sandi’s mausoleum at Sherbourne, another $60mil to Avinash’s white elephant in Black Rock, few more millions on Rihanna “concert”……… should I continue or do we get the message? Where is the money to come from now to give police, nurses, teachers etc better salaries? The more I hear about these excuses for a government the more sick I get.
@ Go Figure
QUALIFIED nurses and especially teachers, are paid ‘reasonably’ well.
@TJ…..agree with you ! In fact I feel that teachers are overpaid ! My take on this ….any person who has to report for work before and during an emergency are the ones that should be well paid …..those are the ones who have to leave their homes whilst the others scrambled to get home.Teachers are compensated by the amount of time they get away from the classrooms.
In no uncertain terms the job of law- enforcement constitutes an integral, and intrinsic part of our society’s tranquility? And it is nothing less than unconscionable for the men, and women who put their lives of the line night, and day to ensure the public safety to be paid minimum wages.
Nonetheless, from personal experience I can say that I spent the majority of my childhood years around the police. Not because I wanted to, but, because I was born behind district a police station. Many of the Mounted Police, and member of the Police Band I knew very well, I’ve seen first- hand the contributed these men, and women has made to the island of Barbados. My good friend Derek Benn a Mounted Police, who was cut down in the prime of his life, we’ll meet again one day good friend.
