Is this the brutal truth about Harlequin’s Merricks project in Barbados?

The following as posted at Harlecon.net simply cannot be true. We await comments and information from Harlequin.

“So finally Harlequin have embarked on their eagerly awaited build program. Having sold in excess of 1000 properties in Barbados since 2006 at their much publicised Merricks resort, the plans for the next 12 months are set out below;

A total of three units.”

… from the HarleCON.net story The Current Status of the Projects, Is there really a future?

    Harlequin have said that is what they are doing publicly, no need for more comments from them. Complete and utter scam artists.

    Agree…look back at their previous newsletters..what they are building now, was supposed to have been completed 3 years ago! They also made a big thing about signing an agreement with the “5 star Oasis Hotels” …now its the H Hotel Group. Investors will be looking for their money soon.

    Wait a minute, there are lots of unfinished condos and developments throughout Barbados where money has ben collected and the work not completed. So what we see here is quite normal in Barbados and the money that has been collected is not just by Foreign companies. There are a good number of Barbados busness people who operate by taking money and not completing he work. The court system for resolving these issues is impossible. Nobody should invest in real estate in Barbaods unless it is totally completed and ownership verified. .
    There are some projects sitting in Christ Church that have remained semi finished for 5 years. Buying any real estate in Barbados is risky risky risky. .

    Agreed Watcher, Barbados’ landscape is dotted with a lot of unfinished homes (and soon maybe Harlequin resorts) even though some owners have decided to utilise their property finished or not. The whole situation of unscrupulous building contractors conning buyers out of their hard worked for cash needs to be look at by the authorities. Many of those contractors have no credentials but can obtain planning permission for developments from Town And Country Planning, I guess money does talk. This has been going on in Barbados for years now and no one can tell me that the legislation governing this area, if any exists, cannot be changed (especially in light of some recent what appears to be overnight changes of legislation). The courts are not a good avenue for redress as they take years to conclude cases and in many instances the complainant just gives up and goes away leaving the contractors to do it all over again to someone else. This sort of thing is not restricted to Barbados but it does help to damage the Barbados brand when it comes to investing in building a property here. It seems being in business here gives one a licensed to mislead and disadvantage your customers. You may be represented by The Fair Trading Commission when it involves something like a pack of batteries or a pair of shoes but when it comes to substantial amounts of money involved like buying a house then they cannot or will not help in any way.
