Harlecon.net averaging 4,500 visitors per day – 1.6 million annually

The Streisand Effect kicks in

My goodness! In only one week the controversial website Harlecon.net has gone from 1,000 visitors a day to over 4,500!

That is 1.6 million visitors a year on an annualized basis.

These numbers go up and down as we at BFP well know. Our best day ever was 44,087 visitors. Annualized that works out to 16 million visitors a year. HA! We wish!

The Streisand effect is a primarily online phenomenon in which an attempt to hide or remove a piece of information has the unintended consequence of publicizing the information more widely. It is named after American entertainer Barbra Streisand, whose attempt in 2003 to suppress photographs of her residence inadvertently generated further publicity.

… Wikipedia

Good for Harlecon.net

But let’s remember some reality: the website had a good week because BFP, Caribbean360.com and others linked to it after Harlequin Hotels and Resorts decided to emulate Barbara Streisand on South Park.

Is that really Harlequin’s own David Ames running amok with Barbara Streisand? The Streisand effect:

Memories, like the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were…

As an aside, we notice that the Harlequin Property entry at Wikipedia seems woefully incomplete and out of date and does not reflect any of the controversy raging in Barbados and elsewhere. Interesting… we wonder how long until someone updates it.

    WHO ARE BAJANS BEHIND?

Recent press is giving positive and negative views of Harlequin Hotels and Resorts in Barbados. I for one am a local businessman with a vested interest in development. We all have a vested interest in development! How many of you work or have family who work in tourism and development. Recent times have been tough enough, but why do we fight and believe the lies that some peddle, why don’t we fight for ourselves?

I see the former ICE Group and Cellate Caribbean owner Padraig O’Halloran who fled Barbados 18 months ago owing this government over $1,000,000 Barbados Dollars in tax and PAYE is now condemning Harlequin Hotels and Resorts through a a website he has made, Harlecon, a site packed full of lies. He has done this as Harlequin have taken him to court and are suing him for Fraud. O’Halloran is said to have stolen some 15 million dollars from Harlequin, owes our government, owes hundreds of thousands of dollars to local businesses, failed to complete the government project Buckley Meadows, failed to pay employees, broke planning law with his rented home in Sandy Lane, racially abused Bajan’s and made a joke of this country before he ran, pockets full of our cash.

    On the other hand……

Harlequin Hotels and Resorts are building two projects in Barbados, employ local people, have contracted many local businesses, provide opportunities, recently have given to local charities in St. Phillip, have brought Liverpool Football Club soccer schools to our youth and schools, promise jobs, are making tens of millions of dollars of investment today, with hundreds of millions more to come and are marketing Barbados to the world as a wonderful place to visit and invest.

I don’t know about you but I know which one has my support.

HARLECON OWNER PADRAIG O’HALLORAN OWES BARBADOS MILLIONS.

Harlecon Owener, ICE Group and Cellate Caribbean owner Padraig O’Halloran is again making international press having stolen patents and trademarks for construction techniques.

Readers will recall that O’Halloran fled Barbados some 18 months ago following Harlequin Hotels and Resorts taking him to court over misappropriation and Fraud allegations. Since the court case began many former employees have testified of O’Halloran’s guilt and now as that trial date approaches O’Halloran finds himself in yet more hot water.
O’Halloran fled Barbados owing well over $1,000,0000 Barbados Dollars in tax and PAYE to the government as well as some further $500,000 to dozens of local and Caribbean businesses and a number of international accounts unpaid in Barbados such as Virgin Atlantic.
Recent months have seen him make a litany of violent and racist threats against former employees who have whistle blown his operation. Despite having fled Barbados the Irish conman continues to cause pain to Bajans and genuine international investment. He recently admitted to being the founder of the Harlecon website launched against Harlequin Hotels and Resorts in an effort to upset their business in the lead up to trial in Barbados. Harlequin are suing him for Fraud and it is understood are also helping and representing local businesses.
Bajan’s will wait to see if O’Halloran will return to the island but it is unlikely given arrest warrants out for him and huge monies he owes.

  3. Sore Balls, lots of ICE and no SEX for Padraig O’Halloran

Former ICE Group and Cellate Caribbean owner Padraig O’Halloran has launched a new business called Weddings by Franklynot in Ireland.

Padraig O’Halloran who is on trial for fraud in Barbados and Ireland has launched the new company in a bid to build a new life, trying to skulk away from the millions he allegedly owes many Caribbean businesses. He explained to local Irish papers that the inspiration for Franklynot Weddings Co. came one lonely evening and from his own misfortunes in love and that following his former girlfriend Suzanne Floyd running off with another woman, he decided to reinvent himself. O’Halloran explained he chased Miss Floyd for five years, but despite great expenditure on her and lavishing her with gifts, he never actually managed to consummate the relationship, although she was consummating with plenty of other men.
Speaking openly to press he said he was feeling upset, embarrassed and cheated by a woman who had bled him of money and driven him to a life of crime – an admission of guilt perhaps? O’Halloran decided to reinvent himself, confirming that he has visited Thailand for micro-penile reconstructive surgery recently, having been sadly born with micro penis syndrome, a condition that sees the penis grow to less than 2 inches and having had a testicle he lost during a childhood accident replaced.
O’Halloran is ready for a lady in his life or as he went on to explain to local Irish press….. even a man. In recent months O’Halloran has been living with gay rights activist and Soho London drag act Jeremy (Jessy) Newman, a hermaphrodite with whom O’Halloran shares a love of lacy knickers and hamsters. Newman works as an accountant in the UK, as a tax advisor and is a long term friend of O’Halloran and former college boyfriend of Suzanne Floyd.

You just can’t write this stuff! Despite all the upset O’Halloran has left behind, the joke is firmly on him for all that knew him. Oh how we laugh!

  5. St George's Dragon

Harlequin has a record of creating fictious people and posting propaganda on websites whenever they get criticised. Look at Trip Advisor for reviews on Buccament Bay, St Vincent. TA has been deleting comments from first-time posters for a while now. Why – for the simple reason that there is a suspiciously high number of first-time posters who give rave reviews of the place.
Please do not take this stuff against Padraig O’Halloran as fact. Make up you own mind by reviewing the facts on the Harlecon.net website.
O’Halloran may indeed be a crook and no doubt the Courts will decide that in due course, but if he is, he was in good company working for Harlequin.
By the way – BFP – can you see what IP addresses these posts come from? Are they addresses linked with Harlequin?

I have read the recent posts on this site and frankly I find this whole Harlequin debacle descending into pure farce, Harlequin obtained many exparte injunctions against Mr. O’ Halloran and his companies, thus preventing him from trading, Winston for instance states that Mr. O’ Halloran has acknowledged that he is behind the website, so why is the website that Mr. O’ Halloran allegedly has set up, still operational. If Harlequin know who is behind the website, and if as stated none of the contents of the website are true why do Harlequin not seek to have the courts shut this down, as they have done with so many other media forums? Winston also seems to suggest that Harlequin being the generous philanthropists they are, are helping companies owed money by ICE with their court cases. Why do this? Why use purchaser funds to help other unrelated companies.

Shannon decided to post their little gem of information twice, just in case we did not get to see it the first time. Shannon goes into great detail of an interview allegedly given by Mr. O’ Halloran to a number of Irish news papers, Shannon states that Mr. O Halloran has been open and frank in newspaper articles in Ireland telling the world what allegedly lead him into his life of crime, and Shannon then goes into great detail on Mr. O Halloran’s sexual prowess or lack of, Shannon claims that O’ Halloran has been very candid with the Irish media, discussing in detail his recent medical problems and operations. Could Shannon identify which one of the Irish News Papers carried this article, if there is such a newspaper article then surely the court cases are but a mere formality, Shannon seems to state that Mr. O’ Halloran has all but admitted his guilt to the worlds media. Shannon states that you cant write this stuff, yet Shannon saw fit to do so. Then Shannon goes onto describe a Jeremy Newman, is Mr. Newman a co defendant in the proceedings? Shannon appears to be very knowledgeable about Mr. O’ Halloran and his colleagues, has Shannon failed to point out some of the other little gems in the current dispute between Harlequin and ICE.? I wonder?

Apollo states that Harlequin are building two projects in Barbados, can Apollo recall a few short weeks ago when Harlequin stopped all work in Barbados blaming the Government for not giving them some concessions. Is Apollo aware that there are over 1000 investors who have been waiting since 2006 to see any movement on Merricks, and now Harlequin are building a show village. Does Apollo understand the Harlequin business model, does he understand that Ames and his agents have helped themselves to nearly half of the money that purchasers have paid in deposits? Some circa $450 Million Barbados Dollars as per Harlequin’s audited accounts. Does Harlequin actually have the money to construct any of the resorts that purchasers have paid for?

Yes Harlequin and ICE are in the Courts and yes when the cases are said and done we may get to the bottom of what went on, but what appears to be happening at the moment is a personal attack on an individual / individuals to divert the spotlight away from Harlequin. If Harlequin as they claim have grounds to rebut the statements on the Harlecon website, then why didn’t they do so. Attacking an individual rather then rebutting the allegations levied against Harlequin is cowardice.

It is easy for us to make the allegations made above whilst hiding behind anonymous names and not substantiating the facts. Shannon which news papers have written these articles. Apollo what grounds have you for claiming that that the contents of the Harlecon website are a pack of lies, are you claiming that the documents and emails posted on the site are forged or made up? Can you prove otherwise?. Harlequin claim that the website is being operated by Mr. O’ Halloran so if this is true it no longer is anonymous, so again why have Harlequin not had the site and its contents shut down under the strict UK defamation laws, Maybe just maybe, Harlequin are either clutching at straws and or the contents of the site are genuine.

Who are Harlequin going to blame when their case against Mr. O’ Halloran is over. Apollo you state that Mr. O’ Halloran has stolen some $15 Million Dollars. Ames helped himself to 15.6 Million dollars of purchaser funds according to their latest audited accounts to buy personal property for Ames and his family, in fact they were dipping into this honey pot for a number of years until it was high lighted by their auditors in the UK this year. Funds that purchasers thought were being spent on purchaser properties not for the benefit of the Ames family.

Alas for Harlequin the story in the UK and Ireland as recorded by the courts an which is available for the public to view, paints a very different picture to the one that Ames and Co. would like us to believe, but will Harlequin now claim that the UK and Irish courts are biased.

Harlequin are resorting to a cynical and frankly pathetic form of PR. But along with giving the stripped out furniture from the Alamande Hotel, furniture they would otherwise have dumped, to a charity, a noble gesture granted, but was there a need to tell the world how generous they are, and in the same breadth as telling the world that the Barbados Government were the reason for the dealy in their projects they announce a soccer school for local kids. Lots of PR, yet little or no real action, Harlequin clean up your act or soon it will be cleaned up for you.

  7. Newbie

If I believed that anyone would pay for this debacle I just might find it interesting. The whole thing is a farce but what is really funny is that it is likely to happen here in Barbados again and again all ending with the same result. A few richer people and no finished project. I believe the posts highlighting Mr O’Halloran’s personal life to be nothing but a smokescreen and deflection from Harlequin’s part in the whole sordid fiasco.

  8. Anonymous

All seems fairly simple to me – Harlequin sell thousands of homes and build 90 or so. Something smells about that, having sold many of these 5 years ago. And only now are finalising planning. All the other claims on Harlecon are pretty horrendous, but those facts are plain and clear and surely suggest this company is not on the up and up?

What a strange individual you are!. Anyone can see the recent Trip Advisor report you have referred to is a collation of the few complaints arising from previous posts. A poor review such as this sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the multitude of excellent ones. Many of the terms used copy those negatives used befire almost word for word. This concoction was probably in response to Trip Advisor awarding beautiful Buccament Bay a Certificate of Excellence.
As for you not wishing for “louts” to visit the Caribbean, it would appear that you have far, far more than your fair share of these already.
The threads have again deteriorated with much crude comment, probably in response to the increased number of poor quality, misleading, factually incorrect posts put on by you and Yastinkiteasy.

  11. Dumb and Dumber and Lobotomised

The scam is over Harli. You are preaching to nobody.

Slagging off beautiful Buccament Bay will not stop the rapid decline of tourism in Barbados. It will not stop the rapid escalation of the crime rate in Barbados. It will do nothing to counteract the rudeness shown by some bajans to tourists.Just to remind you, with extracts from another thread, these are the major reasons why the outlook for Barbados tourism isso bleak.
” I am not coming back to Barbados after 31 years of yearly trips”
2 Knock, knock .Who’s ther? not me you dumb f**k. I’ll go to another island to spend my money. Congrat’s Barbados, you have become a banana republic”
“Me and my wife had been going to settle in Barbados but after everything that has happened in recent times, we have changed our minds. Thankfully there are many oter nice places on earth. It will be Spain, malta, Thailand or any other island in the Caribbean”
“We went into a shop in Swan Street last year. Both assistants were lying down and didn’t even bother to stand up or serve us”
“Don’t expect money and love coming to your crime polluted island in the future…. harassment causes hatred. Why don’t you just lock the bastards away? Barbados is mouse dead to the tourist and absolutely unimportant, so why bother? Bye Bye useless island”
” There have been serious attacks on foreign visitors, including armed robbery and sexual assaults as well as opportunist thefts of wallets, handbags, jewellry and other personal possessins. Fire arms and other weapons have bee used in some of these attacks. Victims of sexual assaults have criticsised the Barbados authorite’s response, including the level of support received”
” Barbados has developed into a no-go banana republic……Barbados is not important anymore and nobody abroad will care. When the violent locals are about to die out, a new tribe might set foot and make it a good place again. Untill that happens, I will warn everybody not to set foot on that bloodstained island”
Yastinkiteasy….. As you told us earlier, you are admitting to being a criminal when you say you will nick the hoarding from around H Hotel and send it to F.D.N.R.M.
You say you are off to the DR for a holiday. What’s wrong with Barbados? Are you frightened of getting pistol whipped on you own beaches or of being mugged by the Bascobel Toll Gang or MS/13? Is it unsafe to use an ATM, knowing that you will probably be relieved of your wihdrawal and may get knifed or shot in the process? Are you going to the DR because homosexuality is not a crime there? Are you going as there is considerably less chance of contacting HIV. ( HIV cases are 50% higher in Barbados than in the rest of the Caribbean-True? ) HIV cannot be eliminated with a DEET spray!
Is it true that the St Lawrence Gap has been renamed “Crack Alley”? Is it true that the only profitable enterprises in Barbados are those selling 6@ by 4@ plywood panels to the hotel industry?
When visiting Barbados, there are much more important concerns tha a few mosquitos. You cannot eliminate your problemswith a DEEt spray. I would rather be bitten by a mosquito than by a bullet!
Yastinkiteasy, you are a prime contributor to destoying your economy. All you do is to spend your time trying to rubbish the one developer who is working to turn your near defunct tourism industry aroung.
One day, someone will take it upon themselves to contact the world’s press an
d TV stations ( maybe even Panorama) and get them to run features of the sad decline of Barbados into a No Go area. What will happen then to those brothers and sisters of yours who try to live a decent life? The problems faced by investors and developers will amount to nothing compared to your island communiy. And you stand idly by! It really will be Curtaains. Tick, Tock!

  13. Fatchett does not represent me.

@Harlisuccess. Did he really say he would send me the hoarding. If I had know I could have picked it up when I was in Barbados. Unless someone tried to nick it off me first!
