You didn’t report that the Caribbean Development Bank gave us another loan for… A STUDY!!! This one is for “drainage” but that’s not the point. Any excuse will do so long as the money keeps coming in.
It’s only a quarter of a million dollars but in this economy and with an election approaching every little bit helps. Don’t ask when or how our children and grandchildren are going to repay US$250k for a DRAINAGE STUDY!
What? We don’t have people in our own Environment Ministry capable of doing a drainage study? Isn’t that some of what they do? Don’t we have people on staff who make their life’s work all about drainage? Is that why a few drops of rain turn this place into a swimming pool on the West Coast?
Jesus come soon! My, my oh my!

Barbados to Get CDB Loan for Drainage & Irrigation Feasibility Study
Bridgetown – July 19, 2011 -The Government of Barbados is to receive a loan equivalent to USD250,000 from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) to undertake a feasibility and design study for an irrigation and drainage system. The project is to be undertaken on approximately 525 acres of agricultural lands owned by the government at River Plantation in the parish of St. Philip.
Barbados’ agriculture sector has been identified as being critical for development in the government’s Medium Term Development Strategy.
Sustainable growth in the sector requires investment in irrigation and drainage systems, farmers’ adoption of improved production technologies and stronger linkages between production and marketing.
The lands at River Plantation, have a unique advantage over several other agricultural lands in Barbados, being close to an abundance of fresh water, but this is partly negated by relatively high flood risk. If properly developed, these lands hold the potential to significantly boost agricultural output.
The state-owned Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation will be the executing agency for the project.

There are more people with advanced degrees than we ever had. Most of them have gone very poorly rated universities and are incapable of doing analytical work.Memorizing and regurgitation of other peoples ideas are what they learn to do.
