Shona discovers Queen Victoria’s Indian lover

Abdul Karim is a piece of history they never taught us in school!

I only heard of Queen Victoria’s footman-lover John Brown when the movie Mrs. Brown was released in 1997. I wasn’t surprised that Victoria took a lover after the death of her husband. She was only 42 years old when Prince Albert died and at 42 years old no woman is ready to go it alone for the rest of her life. Not me anyway and not Victoria but when we learned about Queen Victoria in history class the teacher skipped the part about Mrs. Brown. Queen Victoria was a woman with lots of, “energy”!

My history teacher also skipped the part about Queen Victoria’s Indian lover, Abdul Karim, (called “the Munshi” that is “teacher”) but thanks to a gift from Marcus I’m reading all about the last scandal of Queen Victoria.

My newest book on the nightstand is “Victoria and Abdul: The True Story of the Queen’s Closest Confidant”. I started it two days ago and I can’t put it down. I haven’t gotten to any naughty parts yet. I’ll let you know when I do!

The following is suggested by an old friend…

The story of a romantic, headstrong woman who liked passion, sex and men… dark and scandalous relationships with servants…

    Hi Shona:
Abdul Karim was 24 years old and a married muslim – she would have been an old woman. Queen Victoria was apparently fascinated by India and everything Indian. After she was made Empress of India she actually seemed to prefer the title of Empress and would refer to herself as such rather than Queen. She had several Indian servants among whom was Abdul Karim. He became a close confidant and taught her to write Urdu. She thought of him as a son and gave him property. When she died he was a pall bearer and immediately after he was relieved of his duties by her son Edward.

We will probably never know the truth, but I think it unlikely that they were lovers.

I thought by now the anti-Islamic/anti-muslim/anti-Indian sentiments would have been rampant, BFP you are not being consistent, whats the matter? run out of bigotry/idiomatic racism/discrimination???? MEanwhile the majority of Barbadians continue to show respect, tolerance and peace to us muslims and indians here in good old bim. Despite the sentiments against our culture from BFP the majority of Muslims and/or Indians continue ot be productive members of society from a community that is advancing through education of the younger generations. The majority of us are either Barbadian citizens by birth or marriage or are married to Barbadian born spouses. Therefore despite a vast minority not looking favourably toward our culture and/or religion we continue to thrive…Haters!

Came across this site on the quotation usually atributed to Queen Victoria.

    http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/889/victoria-said-we-are-not-amused-not-amused-by-what

Other sites have varying stories, one claiming it was Queen Elizabeth I who uttered these words and not Queen Victoria.

Queen Victoria had nine (9) children.

It is a mistake to think of her as some sort of prude.

I BELIEVE THAT BOTH MEN BROWN AND ABDUL WERE LOVER OF QUEEN VICTORIA,I DO NOT HAVE A MINIMUN DOUBT,THERE ARE SO MANY CIRCUMSTANCIAL EVIDENCES TO PROOF THAT,ESPECIALLY IN THE CASE OF ABDUL

  11. Finally, it’s also important to learn how to use your car insurance if you’re in an accident
or the car is totaled’dealing with claim adjusters is another world in and of itself. Ones that you may have difficulty with are cars with modifications. You will be amazed at precisely how comparison-shopping can make such a huge difference in the price you pay for your temporary car insurance.
