Barbados Chefette Restaurants, KFC: Proudly serving only Halal meat, sacrificed to Allah?

UPDATED: March 6, 2011

Hello folks, I took a look at the story as originally submitted by BA88/98 and put up by Cliverton and Robert. We talked and wrote to BA88/98 after reading the comments and we’ve changed the story to include KFC to better reflect what BA88/98 says was his main thrust after reading the Daily Mail article: the secret imposition of Sharia law upon Western society and the food processing and distribution industries. BA88/98 says it wasn’t his intent to target Chefette only so we’ve added “and KFC” wherever Chefette was originally by itself. That’s the only change, plus the question at the end of story.

Oh… we couldn’t find a photo of KFC’s Colonel Sanders so we came up with the best we could at the time.

:-)

Marcus

Chefette, KFC: Halal or not?

submitted by BA88/98

What’s the answer?

Don’t Bajans have a right to know? Not in Barbados, you don’t – but you can ask. The answer will be “Yes”, “No” or a silence that means “Yes, but we’re not going to tell you.”

“There are many forms of Jihad, and Secret Halal is one way of making the society conform to Islam”

Shouldn’t you have a right to know? Whether you care or not, you should have the right to know whether or not your Chefette or KFC meal is prepared to any religious tradition. Wouldn’t some Christians be concerned about violating their religious beliefs about not eating food “sacrificed to idols” ??? Shouldn’t it be MY DECISION as to whether or not I eat meat prepared to a religious tradition?

Imagine the fuss if Muslims in the UK found that KFC was serving Jewish Kosher chicken without telling anyone.

There would be riots in the streets, murders and burning. Yes, that’s what would happen.

And what about the cruelty aspect of Halal slaughtering? People get all upset to eat eggs not from free range chickens, but nary a mention of the cruelty of Halal slaughtering practices is mentioned in the news.

Freedom of Religion includes the freedom to not participate in any religion, but Islam’s Sharia laws prohibit freedom of religion and mandate all people (not just Muslims) eat Halal meat sacrificed to Allah.

Hey, we’re just asking…

Do Chefette, KFC or other restaurants in Barbados serve all Halal meat sacrificed to Allah and not tell anyone?

  1. Actually if Muslims have no Halal food, then Kosher is the accepted alternative – Halal just means “No Alcohol, No Pork” it is meals which even are acceptable by 7th Day Adventist standards… Openly Halal food is available at Roti Hut in the lanterns Mall at Hastings and it tastes damn good! The roti is genuine curry and Geera not the yellow gravy many other establishments says curried stew?

However, what is the big deal? Allah/Yahweh&God are all the same entity given different names – I think Arthur C. Clarke summed it up in the title of his story “The Nine Billion Names of God”?

There is no doubt He is there, but what He or She is called is immaterial, what matters is why you are summoning and what you intend for Their presence to do… Meat that is Blessed before slaughter under whatever religion is not so bad, there are worse crimes. What is your BEEF with Muslims? My concerns are mainly the ways of handling theft and the arranged marriages, but even then I am Baha’i (not a very good one, still have booze) but Christianity has Jim Jones, Tim McVeigh and Dave Koresh… I am not aware of any Jewish religious fanatics unless you count Ariel Sharon or Moshe Dayan?

  2. Don't spin too much Mr. Bourne

Mr. Bourne, it is not the eating of Halal or Kosher food that I mind, it is the lack of honesty in failing to inform me that my food was prepared according to a ritual to a false god. If you consider the God of the Jews and Allah of the Muslims to be the same, that is your business. To me, when I read the Old Testament and the Koran, I wonder if the “spirit” that spoke to the False Prophet Muhammed (PBUH*) was Satan. Certain passages in the Koran were removed after it was found that Satan inspired Muhammed and not Allah.

I think they missed a few verses though.

It is all about religious freedom. Islam stamps out other religions and Muslims are authorized to kill to impose Islam.

I do not want to eat food that was prepared in worship to the false god Allah as revealed by the false prophet. If you accept eating food prepared in worship to Allah, you accept everything else. Symbolism is powerful and brings change. It always has. You, a non-Muslim eating Halal, is a powerful symbol about you, your personal values and Islam.

If the Nazis ran a restaurant, would you patronize it if the food was good and cheap but prepared in worship to Hitler?

  3. The Prophet Muhammed

Muslims are forbidden to eat food prepared with the spoken name of any god but Allah. For you infidels, do what you wish.

Forbidden for you are carrion, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that which has been slaughtered while proclaiming the name of any other than God, and one killed by strangling, and one killed with blunt weapons, and one which died by falling, and that which was gored by the horns of some animal, and one eaten by a wild beast, except those whom you slaughter; and that which is slaughtered at the altar and that which is distributed by the throwing of arrows [for an omen]; this is an act of sin.
    —– Al-Maa’idah 5:3

  4. @Don’t Spin – re: last query, yes

  5. @Prophet Muhammad – but Kosher is acceptable if nothing else available, correct? I have been told so by Islamic community.

@Don’t Spin – I forgot, check Granville Philips II’s book about Islam & Christianity, a serious wake up call?

  6. what will they think of next

    What difference it mek?

    K. This argument needs to stop. It is stupid and senseless. We live in the world and will have to deal with wordly things. Each person in the world has their own thoughts in this topic, and this argument could go on for years with representations from every religion there is. just make your individual choice and move on. We can’t stir up this kind of hatred, that’s not how we win wars, in fact that is how you start them. The mature thing to do is this : If you know something, just deal with it accordingly. Everyone knows the reiligion of the owners of cheffette, so don’t you expect them to follow it? Why be so naive and ask stupid questions? Would you ask a Christian business if they pray before they start and pray over their food? That is expected. Come on, let’s be mature adults- make informed individual choices and move on!

  8. I-spy

The spy smell a rat, a big fat rat.

  9. Jayne P.

Sue says “Come on, let’s be mature adults- make informed individual choices and move on!”

I believe that is the point of this article: the right and freedom to make informed individual choices. It is the lack of “informed” that invalidates the rest of Sue’s statement. She doesn’t mean “informed choice” she means lie on your back, close your eyes and think pleasant thoughts while another value system has its way with you.

I’d rather not eat meat prepared in a religious ceremony to a version of some god that I not only don’t believe in, but detest because under that religion I am lesser because I am a woman and men are “superior” or “in charge” of me (depending on which translation you choose).

Sue cannot argue for informed choice and at the same time say it is “hatred” for me to want to know. I will not comply with the symbols, values or rules of a misogynistic and oppressive political/religious ideology and that is my choice.

Secretly feeding me Halal meals takes away my right to choose as much as if I secretly fed pork to Seventh Day Adventists, Muslims or Jews.

I want to know. Is Chefette serving Halal meats?

to : Don’t spin too much Mr. Bourne , March 5, 2011 at 10:22 am

    What’s a :false God: ???
Man created God in his own image and not the other way around. This “God” which has become imbedded in the world’s consciousness from the days long before the earth was the center of the earth is a figment of mankinds kindergarden and uneducated thinking. Rock on with your beliefs, my friend….

  11. RLL

This is from a Daily Mail article:

The Church of England has told its schools to ensure they are serving non-halal food after concerns that a number are only providing meat slaughtered according to Islamic law.

The official guidance was issued after Church members complained that the use of halal meat was effectively ‘spreading sharia law’ across Britain….

The moves follow disclosures by The Mail on Sunday last year that halal products were widespread in schools, hospitals, pubs and sporting venues but members of the public were not informed.

More than 10,000 Christians, many of whom have reservations about eating meat from animals that are bled to death while an Islamic prayer is recited, have signed a petition calling for proper labelling….

Alison Ruoff, a long-standing member of the Church’s ‘parliament’, the General Synod, said: ‘The Church is only just waking up to this. We have been pathetic and mealy-mouthed but we should be really concerned about this.

‘There is a lot of fear about upsetting Muslims but as a Christian you have to stand up for Christian values. Because we are unwittingly eating halal meat, we are spreading the practice of sharia law.’…

The Christian Muslim Forum, set up by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams four years ago, said there were concerns about ‘some public authorities which provide only halal products in schools and other institutions’.

It said in a statement: ‘We urge all food outlets, catering organisations and public authorities to label halal food properly, for the benefit of both non-Muslim and Muslim consumers.’

  12. Roland Shirk

Why should Christians care if they’re eating halal meat? Predictably, cultural masochists and stealth jihadists will insist that such a concern is the fruit of “Islamophobia” and bigotry. I’m hardly the most ecumenical Christian in the world, but the only reaction I’ve ever had to eating a kosher hot dog has been to think “Oh good. This probably doesn’t have so much junk in it.” But the more I’ve learned of Islam, the harder it has been for me to buy those tasty-looking shish-kebabs that are offered from carts by hard-working (and no doubt peaceful) Muslims in New York City. Why is that?

For one thing, halal meat is slaughtered to the accompaniment of ritual prayers to Allah—and the more I learn about how Islam depicts him, the less I can conceive of him as in any way the same God worshiped by Christians and Jews. Instead, he seems to me a wicked idol, which would make the meat that was slaughtered in his name the one thing St. Paul forbade Christians to eat: Meat offered to an idol (1 Corinthians, 8:7).

  13. confused

This restaurant do not carry halal meat, for if it was so then you would have seen MUSLIMS eating the meat product from them.

  14. WTF?

Sue, “everyone” does not know the religion of the owners of Chefette. I do now but how am I supposed to know the religion of the owners of any fast food chain?

I’m not sure it would bother me to eat halal meat or not but I am bothered that public hospitals in the UK are told to use only Halal for everyone. The poultry industry and beef suppliers are being squeezed out of business and the business is given to Muslims that are only a small percentage of the population in the UK, but are vocal, demanding and occasionally violent so everybody bends over backwards for them while throwing our traditions out the window. The meat supply industry has changed almost overnight to give all power and profits to one religious group. Something very bad about that.

FreePress racist muslim posts are a shitstain on an otherwise good site. From the collective of all muslim articles Freepress believe all Muslims will kill you or maim you.

Read a history book, all religions are soaked in the blood of the innocent. Islam has an extreme minority, some religions which BFP holds in higher esteem have had the ruling order commit the bloodshed or in the case of Anglicans founded on the whims of a horny King in need of an heir.

Judging an entire people based on a snapshot of history intrepreted to you by the worst journalism the world has even seen is retarded.

I think a fair share of Muslims smell bad because of the spices they eat, that’s as much as I can judge them.

But Freepress and its sparkling ideology seems content with “casting the first stone” and the second and the third.

Who came up with that analogy again?

  16. Freedom Of Speech

I’m so done with BFP. Enough with spreading your hatred towards muslims..DANG! I don’t want any part of any blog that promotes rasism. You should be using this blog to promote tolerance; not hatred!
Please and you think you’re “anonymous” and no one knows who you are allowing you to continue to spread your hatred; Heck everyone knows who runs BFP.
FYI, your wife went to school with every girl child of Mr. Haloute (owner of the chefette chain). Ask her how she feels about the crap you’re writing about her former classmates!
I’m so outta here BFP. You guys need to be PUT ON BLAST. I’m so for “freedom of speech”; but not the rush limbaugh, and glenn beck type of “freedom of speech” that you BFP seem to be promoting! Hope your site gets silence for this promotion of hatred you seem to love to write about! Don’t want any part of it. PROMOTE TOLERANCE AND PEACE; NOT HATRED!

BFP stop promoting hatred! Promote peace & tolerance. Let ye without sin cast the first stone.

BFP we all know you all ain’t perfect! If you all get shut down, you have no one else to blame but yourself. And yeah, go ahead and delete my post; whatever happen to freedom of opinion. Just because you don’t like my comment doesn’t give you the right to delete it. It’s a public blog; not your facebook personal page. BFP is starting to get like nationnews.com

  20. tealc

BFP doesn’t even know what Halal meat is, it has nothing to do with praying to Allah but ignorance is a valuable lesson in presenting irrational arguments. You think the Halal McDonalds stores in UK and US have muslims praying on the chicken nuggets?

What you are saying is the equivalent of saying Ital is blessed by Selassie.

Halal is the guidelines of the types of food and the methods of killing. Studies have shown that Halals blood draining might actually make healthier food.

Its hilarious, that you smoke the white mans cancer sticks that was started with slave labor and the slaughter of indians. Eat fastfood made with chemicals to kill you and give you diabetes and NOW you develop principles about putting things in your mouth. Pfftt

  21. Two more things… Are Chapati done by way of Halal? {Aren’t Bangladeshi Muslims?}

A little digging indicates Ryan Haloute, as indeed most Syrians (Bajan or Trini) in the Caribbean are, is of Catholic persuasion – very misleading if so, eh? You should apologise to Chefette and pay ten dollars each for at least 20 rotis smaller than Blackberries…

Then head over to Roti Hut and try some Halal, it’s filling and nutritious at a reasonable fee!

  22. Just Asking

I want to know. Is Chefette serving Halal meats?

  23. Freedom of Speech

Thank You Ian. For BFP to insinuate that the Haloute’s are muslim is just down right poor journalism and rasist (to say the least). Haloute’s children all went to St. Angela’s. BFP owner should know that; just ask a certain person very close to him; they know. (I’m not going to expose him or put his business on blast).

  24. friend of chefette

Haloute muslim…lol…..This guy has been a christian all his life. But interestingly enough if you ask an arab chrstian what name they refer to almighty god every single arab christian would say Allah

  25. Chicago

Let’s remember how this story started. The UK paper published a story that many major sporting venues, hospitals and food companies are secretly serving Halal meat to all.

Contrary to what some write above, prayers to Allah are said as part of the killing ritual.

After reading the Daily Mail article is a fair question to as Chefette or KFC or any restaurant on Barbados or anywhere if they serve Halal without telling. For those who say it shouldn’t matter, then why is it kept secret in the UK?

The secret halal question is only one of many surrounding the adoption or imposition of Islamic traditions upon the UK, USA and Barbados. For those who say it is racist to mention that millions of people eat hallal every day without knowing it, it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with how and why a minority religion should be able to impose its standards on the rest of us. The person who spoke about the takeover of the meat processing industry by one minority religion also has a point.

The deception is so widespread, but only in the past few years are people waking up to the fact that the food business has gone Sharia compliant in less than a decade.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1315278/Top-supermarkets-secretly-sell-halal-Sainsburys-Tesco-Waitrose-M-S-dont-tell-meat-ritually-slaughtered.html

There are moderate muslims, but there is no moderate Islam or Q’uran.
Islam is an intolerant religion that inspires more violence in the name of its ‘god’ than any other at this time in history. Don’t talk to me about the Crusades unless you’re willing to admit that the Muslims are still living as the Christians did 500 years ago, so they are 500 years behind.

People are not “Islamophobic” if they have valid reasons to fear Islam, and they do have valid reasons. Soon there will be no Christians left in the Middle East and other Muslim majority areas but nobody cares about the slaughters.

  26. Just Asking

    What is Bismillah?

  27. Just Asking

KFC is giving the reassurance to its Muslim customers that their chicken fillets, which are now imported from Virginia, USA are halal. (Trinidad Newsday)

  28. rasta man

Hope Mr Haloute will still be the same when the lawsuit is over???

  29. one of the best chickens burgers in the world

I suspect much of what we eat comes from some religious based cooking such as kosher beef dogs. We eat food that we like and Cheffette has produced a chicken burger that is quite addictive and desired. People who miss Barbados often think of Oistins fish and Cheffete Chicken.

Other than that young man in Australia who had a temper tantrum in a fast food place in Australia several months ago, I don’t think there is a story here BFP?

Its tough to make a business work in Barbados and the Haloute’s should get a lot of credit for serving the market and thriving. kudos

  30. halal

Is BFP implying Chefetee is run by Muslims? News to me. Roti Hut is halal, and Rituals was Halal. Halal Chicken is now available in leading supermarkets. Halal lamb is imported by a leading Barbadian company. A lot of the franchises in Trinidad are fully halal or have halal branches. Trinidad KFC was Halal, when they were buying local, and now they are importing from Halal sources as well. International Franchises in Canada are halal, plenty of Halal food in England. Companies from South America claim to be Halal, and ship all over the world. BFP you better eat vegetarian when you travel.
Bismillah means to In the name of Allah. Allah is the Arabic word for God.
Conditions for aan animal to be Halal are generally as follows:
    1) The slaughterer’s being Muslim
    2) That God’s name is taken at the time of slaughter.
    3) That the throat, windpipe and jugular veins are cut.

The Quran also says [5:5] “This day, good things have been made lawful for you. The food of the people of the Book is lawful for you, and your food
is lawful for them, and good women from among believers, and good women from among those who were given the Book before you, provided you give them their dowers, binding yourself in marriage, neither going for lust, nor having paramours. Whoever rejects Faith, his effort will go to waste and, in the Hereafter, he will be among the losers.”
Christian and Jews are meant by People of the Book.
Fish does not need to be ‘made Halal’.
As for the argument about cruelty that could be discussed in another post.

  31. halal

Those who have a problem with Halal slaughter as being cruel should take it up with the Jews and Kosher as well. The Jews do not apporove of Stunning either.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Islamic_and_Jewish_dietary_laws

It may come as a surprise to learn of the results of a study carried out by Professor Wilhelm Schulze and his colleague Dr. Hazim at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover University in Germany. The study: ‘Attempts to Objectify Pain and Consciousness in Conventional (captive bolt pistol stunning) and Ritual (halal, knife) Methods of Slaughtering Sheep and Calves’ concludes that Islamic slaughtering is the most humane method of slaughter and that captive bolt stunning, practiced in the West, causes severe pain to the animal.

Islam teaches that the following should be avoided when slaughtering:
Sharpening of blades in clear view of the animals being slaughtered.
Skinning of animals while they are clearly alive and warm.
Ill – treatment of animals in pens/ holding areas.
Slaughtering in full view of other animals.
Slaughtering by such persons especially children unacquainted with the correct method of slaughter thereby causing pain to the animal.

Imam Ahmad narrated on the authority of Ibn Abbas that the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) passed by a group from Al-Ansar (the supporters) while they were aiming at a pigeon. The Prophet said: “Don’t make an aim from an alive creature”.
Hishim b. Zaid b. Anas b. Milik reported: I visited the house of al-Hakam b. Ayyub along with my grandfather Anas b. Milik, (and there) some people had made a hen a target and were shooting arrows at her. Thereupon Asas said that Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) had forbidden tying of the animals (and making them the targets of arrows, etc.). This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Shu’ba through other chains of transmitters. (Muslim)
Imam Muslim narrated on the authority of Ibn-Gaber Ibn-Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them, that the Prophet “forbids us from leaving animals tied without food or drinks until death” (No. 3620)
Shaddid b. Aus said: Two are the things which I remember Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) having said: Verily Allah has enjoined goodness to everything; so when you kill, kill in a good way and when you slaughter, slaughter in a good way. So every one of you should sharpen his knife, and let the slaughtered animal die comfortably.(Muslim)

  32. Son Of Spam

A Muslim dies and finds himself before the Pearly Gates..

He is very excited, as all his life he has longed to meet the Prophet Mohammed.
Having arrived at the Gates of Heaven, he meets a man with a beard.

    “Are you Mohammed?” he asks.

“No, my son. I am Peter. Mohammed is higher up.” And he points to a ladder that rises into the clouds.

Delighted that Mohammed should be higher than Peter, he climbs the ladder in great strides, climbs through the clouds coming to a room where he meets another bearded man.

He asks again, “Are you Mohammed?”

“No, I am Moses. Mohammed is higher still.”

Exhausted, but with a heart full of joy he continues to climb the ladder and, yet again, he discovers an even larger room where he meets another man with a beard.

Full of hope, he asks again, “Are you Mohammed?”

“No, I am Jesus… You will find Mohammed higher up.”

    Mohammed higher than Jesus!

The poor man can hardly contain his delight and climbs and climbs, ever higher.
Once again he reaches a larger room where he meets a man with a beard and repeats his question:

“Are you Mohammed?” he gasps as he is, by now, totally out of breath from all his climbing.

“No my son…..I am God. But you look exhausted. Would you like a coffee?”

    “Yes, please, my Lord.”

God looks behind him, claps his hands and calls out:

    “Hey Mohammed, two coffees !!!”

  33. I truly love this one, I will share this with family and friends.

  34. Aw, me score ’nuff targets ‘pon BFP in this thread and them gets upset and shows the old slap against KFC & Li’l Chef because I revealed there’s nothing so Insidious about Halal and how the Haloutes are Catholic, it was a thin article dredged to build circulation… Accept it!

Roti Hut is openly Halal is that a problem too? While certain followers of Islam tend to give many pause, are ALL Muslims bad? As they emerge from the Uterus they are handed TNT with a Deadman Switch in lieu of a spank?

Good God/Allah/Jah, etc. Have you ever done a Positive portrayal of Muslim story? Did one horn any of you a long time ago?

  35. BFP Marcus not signed in

    Hi Ian,

Aw, com’on Ian – at least we never put up the one of you waving the Union Jack! :-)

It is true that we haven’t put up a “positive” story on Islam that I can think of. I have to say “that I can think of” because we’ve published over 4,000 articles since January 2006 and sometimes I forget what we’ve published if I didn’t write it. I usually remember my own articles but if it was written by Robert or Clive or a guest author I don’t remember.

I do remember a positive story on Chefette that we took some flak over: https://barbadosfreepress.wordpress.com/2006/03/19/haloute-familys-chefette-restaurants-a-barbados-institution/

About Islam, the truth is that none of us here see Islam as a positive force for good in the world, quite the opposite. There are good and bad people everywhere, but the problem with Islam is a root belief system based upon a book that was delivered “perfect” in the language that “Allah” speaks. That means that the religion and political/judicial system called Islam is unlikely to soften or mould to the times as Christianity did.

Mainstream Islamic thought and practice is getting tougher, not softer. Freedom of religion and speech is unknown in any majority muslim country. Churches burning everywhere from Egypt to Indonesia. Christian school girls are kidnapped and raped almost daily in Muslim majority countries because they are Christian yet for some reason the mainstream media won’t report it.

“No go” zones in Paris and Amsterdam where French and Dutch women do not walk alone and the streets are regularly shut down by hundreds of Muslims “for prayer” but it is a display of political Islam and a taste of the future.

I recognize that the first victims of Islam are Muslims. The so-called “moderate” Muslims are “moderate” because they do not closely follow the practices and values that are written in the Koran and they pay the price when they get caught.

Take a look at the last week or so…

A British scientist and Imam says he can reconcile Darwin with Islam and the next thing you know: death threats. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/scientist-imam-threatened-over-darwinist-views-2232952.html

The courts don’t matter in Muslim majority countries because even if you’re found not guilty of blasphemy against Muhammad, they kill you anyway.

On the same day Muslim mobs torched five Christian churches in Ethiopia. As usual, nothing in the mainstream media.

I could go on and on and on for just the last week Ian.

But how about this: You write a positive story about Islam and something Islam does that is positive, and we’ll certainly link to it with all respect.

Maybe if you show us some leadership on this, we’ll tag along. How about it?

  36. Jamaal

How amusing this debate about halal meat is with outrage coming from “Christians” who speak of a “false god” after spending hundreds of years chomping away on the swine their white Christian masters gave them to eat.

  37. Green Monkey

    Here ya go Ian.

Thousands of Egyptian Muslims Show Up as “Human Shields” to Defend Coptic Christians From Terorism

On New Year’s Day, a devastating terrorist bombing at a Coptic church in Egypt killed 21 people and injured 79 others. Although the identity of the culprits was not known, it was assumed that they were Muslim extremists, intent on targeting those they saw as heretics. Religious tensions immediately rose in the country, and angry Copts stormed streets, battled with police, and even vandalized a nearby mosque. The riots and heightened tensions between the Muslim and Coptic communities was likely what the terrorists wanted — to divide the Egyptian community and create sectarian strife between different religious groups.

Yet by Coptic Christmas Eve, which took place Thursday night in Egypt, things had changed completely. As Egyptian Copts attended mass at churches across the country, “thousands” of Muslims, including “the two sons of President Hosni Mubarak,” joined them, acting as “human shields” to protect from terrorist attacks by extremists. The Muslims organized under the slogan “We either live together, or we die together,” inspired by Mohamed El-Sawy, an Egyptian artist:

Egypt’s majority Muslim population stuck to its word Thursday night. What had been a promise of solidarity to the weary Coptic community, was honoured, when thousands of Muslims showed up at Coptic Christmas eve mass services in churches around the country and at candle light vigils held outside. From the well-known to the unknown, Muslims had offered their bodies as “human shields” for last night’s mass, making a pledge to collectively fight the threat of Islamic militants and towards an Egypt free from sectarian strife.

“We either live together, or we die together,” was the sloganeering genius of Mohamed El-Sawy, a Muslim arts tycoon whose cultural centre distributed flyers at churches in Cairo Thursday night, and who has been credited with first floating the “human shield” idea. Among those shields were movie stars Adel Imam and Yousra, popular preacher Amr Khaled, the two sons of President Hosni Mubarak, and thousands of citizens who have said they consider the attack one on Egypt as a whole. “This is not about us and them,” said Dalia Mustafa, a student who attended mass at Virgin Mary Church on Maraashly. “We are one. This was an attack on Egypt as a whole, and I am standing with the Copts because the only way things will change in this country is if we come together.”

Green Monkey, do you think BFP cares what you post to contradict their propaganda? They are clear in their agenda and nothing anyone says will come close to convincing them to even give a second thought to their the rhetoric they spout.

  39. DREAM ON

No doubt the new Muslim government of Egypt will institute a new constitution with freedom of religion for all, and freedom for Muslims to leave their religion. They will pay reparations for the thousands of murdered Copts, return their property to them and build new homes. The new Muslim government of Egypt will also hire Christians throughout the government service and change the law prohibiting the hiring of Christians.

Women will be allowed to vote, initiate divorce and have abortions. They will be able to make their own choices about clothing and go out with men socially if that is their choice.

No doubt this will happen because the Religion of Peace is misunderstood and democracy is coming to the Middle East.

  40. DREAM ON

What a nice if unusual story about the Muslims protecting the Copts. Why was it necessary for the protection to happen? Do you think the protection will continue? Is that the end of murders and house burnings in Copt areas?

Will the Egyptian government make good on the payments to the Copts from when they killed every one of their pigs a few years ago because of “swine flu”? When will the Copts be paid for their pigs?

BFP. bet wunnah fritun fah muh:))) da name mussee got wunnah biting wunnah finger nails.
BFP, you have taken stupidity to a different level. I am not a muslim but I am amazed at the lengths you go to to spread hatred and tolerance.
I grew up in the ghetto and have been interacting with muslims from the time I was little. I have no problems with muslims and as far as I understand, halal just means slaughtering in a humane way, and reciting ‘in the name of God.”
Strange that you would be haranguing about and spreading false ideas that cheffette sells ‘halal.’ (how come muslims dont buy any meat from chefette)
yet in this country you cant even send your children to school without worrying if your children are being molested. You sit in your high places and pointificate on utter nonsense, trying to deflect attention away from the serious issues confronting this nation.
when white people had their feet on the necks of black people in this country, it was the muslim coolie man who helped many a black person to go to school……they can tell you the stories. it is the MUSLIM coolie man who can relate to you the problems confronting this country. are they not the ones who go into poor peoples homes and hear their stories????yes i know that they have gotten rich and so on and that profit is their motive.
stop trying to rile up hatred against muslims cos really, the average ghetto working class person have no problems with the muslims. cos you see, when the nauseating evangelicals are passing a poor mother with her baby in the hot burning sun, more than likely, its the muslim that might give her a ride.
I know the diatribe that will follow if/when you decide to include my post.
I have no desire to respond to the evangelical rantings. but remember something……..a muslim (especially one that we know and grow up with) can drive or walk through the ghetto and all the boys on the block will hail him or her. let one a wunna do it and wunna gun see……….of course, the plantocracy has succeeded in its mind control and there are a lot of partycostals in our communities who cant think for themselves.
wunna quarreling bout if cheffette serves halal, really and truly, poor people aint care. they eating it regardless. we poor people from the orleans and chapman lane did eating halal meat long time…:))))

  42. Seeker

I don’t see that BFP said Cheffette or KFC serves hallal. They r asking the question which so far no one answered. Maybe they should start with the poultry wholesalers and importers to get the answer if it matters to them. The Anglican church says it matters and that students should not be served Halal without their knowledge. It’s about freedom of choice, freedom of religion and so far I don’t hear anyone addressing that. They only attack BFP for asking the question.

Id’ like to know if I’m eating halal meat or not. That is my choice. Shouldbe my choice because my religion is as important to me as the Muslim religion is to them. My right. My choice. My right to make an informed choice.

  43. Plain and Simple

It is ironic that BFP can argue a case whereby Islam is useless but live in a country whose morals and civilisation are based on Christian principles and have all the ills BFP write about and more. Barbados is beset with extremely serious problems, from children being molested in schools, teenage pregnancies, violent crime, drug trafficking, marijuana usage being the norm, corrupt politicians, corrupt police, corrupt civil servants, corruption that is structural and cultural, environmental degradation, Church elders, pastors and priests molesting underage girls or taking advantage of vulnerable women, unemployment, poor work ethic, rampant consumerism and on and on and on. And of course, this country being a Christian one whose foundations are Judeo-Christian, I can only hold this Judeo-Christian tradition to account.

Will the Vatican Canonize Shahbaz Bhatti?

One must discern the character of Islam from how its adherents and leaders act when they have the whip hand. Hence, the tolerant hearts and flowers your local imam wafts up the skirt of some United Methodist minister mean little more than the smile Ted Bundy used to lure those coeds into his car. Want to understand Islam? Look at what Muslim mobs are doing to Christian Copts in Egypt, what Saudi police do when Muslim girls try to escape a burning building without their hijabs, what Shi’ite militias do to Christians in Iraq, what Palestinian terrorists promise they’ll do to Israelis. Most recently, you can learn the essence of Islam from Pakistan’s blasphemy laws, and what happens to those (however highly placed) who dare to challenge them: They are butchered, sometimes by their very own guards, and their killers are greeted with rosepetals and victory songs by Muslim religious authorities. This is the true Islam, the will of that desert demon who masquerades as Allah.

Now those who speak for a very different God have bravely raised their voices to answer. Zenit News, a global online Catholic agency with deep connections throughout the Islamic world, reported yesterday:
The Pakistani bishops are considering the submission of a formal request to the Holy See to officially recognize Shahbaz Bhatti as a martyr.
Bhatti, 42, the only Christian member of Pakistan’s cabinet, was shot repeatedly Wednesday as he left his mother’s home in Islamabad.

They both DON’T eat pork anyway, they’re the same people if you look closely at the 2 religions it’s a joke, they’re the same same same and as for Halal meat, hey if it makes it safer and cleaner I’m all for it. I hate religion but I do love to make sure that my meat isn’t tainted and that somebody is looking out for what I’m eating! Its a long way from Halal meat to Sharia, Muslims can dream on bringing Sharia to the West, it’ll never happen, the Christians already try to do that by forcing their nonsense on people anyway!

  55. let we be real

emms, de reality is dat bfp takes their cue from the rabid right wing tabloid type media that aint got nuh credibility. look at dem sources they use for articles and you will see what i mean. and de fact is that they like to boast about how popular they are. have you seen the self-congratulatory articles they often put up about how somebody link to them and how much hits they get and all that crap. i feel that if you are so good and popular your work should speak for itself and there aint no need to harp on about how much hits you get because some media outlet link to your story. but de fact is that their traffic is real low and hardly any of their articles get de numbers of comments they would like. so de best way they know how to drive up traffic and have people commenting is to put one of these islam stories.

  56. real in bim

ah.. roland shirk, or is it robert spence .. same cockroach on one coin. keep your hatred outside this blessed island.. btw Marcus, chances are if you black, then you may have the muslim dna in you, as a fair portion of our slave forefathers were muslims.. you may not be what you think and look at that, you are not a terrorist.and if you continue to feel so strongly about “these people” then petition the government to stop all petroloeum products from TT as you never know, those people are there and their grubby hands maybe all over the fuel that we put in our blonde, blue eyed judeo christian BMWs .aah extermination camp..aah couple million people.. but nah we we don’t have a problem now ..it was just a mad man , not the people. how quickly we develop double standards.
the reality of what we face in bim is total alien to this topic, and i believe it is because more of the negative comments posted here are outsiders and driven by an agenda that has no bearing on us directly. i’m all for being vigilant in every area of our freedom and rights but this nonsense of halall food is creeping to a new low . i tell what bfp, go to supercenter and pick up a halall chicken ( if you tuck your feelings in a back pocket) and a regular chicken and then smell your hands.. see which has a ranker , fouler smell

and all this talk about violent muslims. so the millions of iraqia and afghan civilians slaughtered in the past decade by american led judeo-chriatian western countries isn’t violence? what about the millions who suffer and die each day because of the economic policies of a judeo-christian western world? or closer to home, the mess that judeo-christian barbados is in?

Just days after the Egyptian protesters attacked the state’s internal security headquarters and rescued reems of documents about Mubarak-era crimes that were about to be destroyed, some of the dirtiest such deeds are starting to come to light. And even for the notorious Mubarak regime, they’re surprisingly bad.

Sex tapes, documents detailing broad surveillance of Egyptian dissidents and transcripts of telephone conversations between the dissenters and their family members, sure, but the biggest of what has come out so far reveals something far worse: official government involvement in the Alexandria church bombing and in a 2005 resort bombing.

Its the sort of allegation that would normally seem too extreme to have any credibility, but they’re detailed in official documents as absolute facts. The Sharm al-Sheikh terrorist attacks of July 2005 were blamed on local Bedouins, but the documents instead reveal they were plotted by Interior Minister Habib el-Adly to target a business rival of Hosni Mubarak’s son Gamal.

That and the New Years Eve attack on the Coptic Church in Alexandria, which many were already speculating was an inside job (pointing to the lack of government interest in investigating a major attack) both appear to now be confirmed, at least assuming the documents are authentic (and all indications are that they are). The revelations will likely spark another call to move legally against regime leaders for their crimes.

LETTER XXXI. THE SCHERIFE OF TIMBUCTOO. To J. Buckingham, Esq. Kingston, Sept. 29,1834

” My name is Abu Bakr Sadika, born in Timbuctoo, and brought up in Geneh. I acquired the knowledge of the Al Quran in the country of Gounah, in which country there are many teachers for young people: they are not of one country, but come from different parts, and are brought there to dwell for their instruction. …..My father’s name is Kara-Mousa, Scheriffsay…..Some of Gounah’s people were obliged to fly to Cong, and on that very day they made me a captive. As soon as I was made prisoner, they stripped me, and tied me with a cord, and gave me a heavy load to carry, and led me into the country of Buntocoo,—from thence to the town of Cumasy, where the king of Shan tee reigned, whose name is Ashai,— and from thence to Assicuma,—and from thence to Agimaca, which is the country of the Fantees; from thence to the town of Dago, by the sea-side (all the way on foot, and well loaded;) there they sold me to the Christians in that town—there one of the ship’s captains purchased me, and delivered me over to one of his sailors: the boat immediately pushed off, and I was carried on board the ship. We were three months at sea before we arrived in Jamaica, which was the beginning of bondage.—I have none to thank but those that brought me here. But, praise be to God, who has every thing in his power to do as he thinks good, and no man can remove whatever burden he chooses to put on us. As he said, ‘Nothing shall fall on us except what he shall ordain; he is our Lord, and let all that believe in him put their trust in him.’ My parents’ religion is Islam: they are all circumcised, and their devotions are five times a day; they fast in the month Ramadan; they give tribute according to the law; they are married to four wives, but the fifth is an abomination to them. They fight for their religion, and they travel to the Hedjaz (those that are capable.) They don’t eat any meat except what they themselves kill. They do not drink wine nor spirits, as it is held an abomination so to do. .They do not associate with any that worship idols, or profane the Lord’s name, or do dishonour to their parents, or commit murder, or bear false witness, or wno are covetous, proud, or boastful; for such faults are an abomination unto my religion. They are particularly careful in the education of their children, and in their behaviour, but I am lost to all these advantages: since my bondage I am become corrupt; and I now conclude by begging the Almighty God to lead me into the path that is proper for me, for he alone knows the secrets of my heart and what I am in need of.
    ” Abon Becr Sadika.
    ” Kingston, Jamaica, Sept. 20, 1834.”

The above was written in Arabic. The man speaks English well and correctly for a negro, but does not read or write it. I caused him to read the original, and translate it word by word; and, from the little knowledge I have of the spoken language, I can safely present you with this version of it as a literal translation. ……,

From same book linked to above :
Shortly after Donlan procured his liberty, I received a letter from a Mr. Angell of Manchester parish, a gentleman whom I have not the honour of knowing, but I understand is one of the most respectable inhabitants of his parish. His letter gives an interesting account of another case similar to that of Donlan, where the negro is a man of education, and was of some rank in his own country. He is now seventy-six years of age, fifty-six of which he has passed in slavery on one property in Manchester. The curious part of the case is this: he writes a letter, in Arabic, to Donlan, and states to Mr. Angell that the purport of the letter is to convert Donlan from Mahometanism to the Christian faith; and for this purpose the old African requests of me to be the medium of communication between them. But what is my su rprise at finding the letter of the old man, who is so anxious to convert his countryman from the Mussulman creed, commencing in these terms, “In the name of God, merciful and omnipotent, the blessing of God, the peace of his prophet Mahomet!” So much for the old African’s renunciation of Islamism:

    *« Sir,

” You will be gratified to learn that Jamaica contains more than one proof of the civilized condition of part of Central Africa, and of the capacity of the negro for learning. The enclosed is written by Robert Peart (or Tuffit,) late a”slave belonging to Spice-Grove Plantation in this parish, to Abon Beer Sadiki, (which he pronounces ‘ Bou Bakin Sedaik,’) with whom he has for some time past carried on a correspondence, inviting him to abjure Mahometanism and embrace the true religion. The purport of the letter is to advise him to request you to be the medium of communication between them.

*• ‘The short and simple annals’ of Robert Peart may not be uninteresting to you. He was born in a place called Bouka, in the Mandingo country, nine days’ journey from the sea-side, and near the country of the Fouhlahs, the capital of which is Timbo. His father, Abon loo de Kadri, was a substantial jeoman, possessing 140 slaves, several cows and horses, and grounds producing quantities of cotton, rice, and provisions, which he exchanged for European and other commodities brought from the coast by Higglers. His family were Mohammedans, as most of the Mandingoes are. He was named Mohammed Kaba: the first son, he says, is always called Mohammed. He was educated partly by his father, but principally by his uncle, Mohammed Batoul, who was a great lawyer, and had designed him for the same profession. He pursued his studies until he was twenty years of age, when he was seized one day, as he was walking some distance from home, by a party of robbers, carried to the sea-side, and sold to the captain of a slave-ship.

The Mandinka, Malinke (also known as Mandinko) are one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa with an estimated population of eleven million. They are the descendants of the Mali Empire, which rose to power under the rule of the great Mandinka king Sundiata Keita. The Mandinka in turn belong to West Africa’s largest ethnolinguistic group, the Mandé, who account for more than twenty million people (including the Dyula, Bozo, Bissa and Bambara). Today, over 99% of Mandinka in Africa are Muslim.[1][2]

However, more than half the adult population can read the local Arabic script; small Qur’anic schools for children where Arabic is taught are more common

During the 16th, 17th and 18th century as many as a third of the Mandinka population were shipped to the Americas as slaves through capture in conflict and therefore a significant portion of the African-Americans in the United States are descended from the Mandinka people.[3]

  68. Maybe not

to who are our ancestors: That is an important piece of history but it falls short of slave’s claim that “most of the slaves that came to the carribean were muslims.”

The question must also be asked, “What religion were these people before they were forced to become muslims under the sword”?

Were these people Christians? Jews? Animists? Unknown African tribal religions? For a history lesson in how Islamists have forced religious conversions since the Medina days one need only look to the state of Christianity in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and throughout the Middle East.

Hmmm, off topic, but just saying, and also, this is not from the Koran…….
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. It is a known fact that many of the Africans taken as slaves from West Africa were Muslim. Many tried to keep their identity but that was illegal and it became lost in the generations that followed. There are reports by missionaries that some of the slaves they encountered on the island spoke Arabic and practiced Islamic customs. It is very easy to prove that man y slaves were muslims just research where slaves came from and u will see that for the pass 1000 yrs that area has a population of more than 99 percent muslim. But why worry about this information ….when we know whatever the religon of our ancestors…..Christianity was forced upon us

  74. Ian Bourne Jesus Photo

Slave, “Many” is not “Most” so the claim that “most” of the slaves were muslim is an exaggeration.

Christianity might have been forced upon Muslim slaves, but no more so than Islam was forced upon their people in the first place.

The problem I have with Islam today is it’s violence and lack of tolerance for any other religion and the horrible way it denigrates women to second class slaves of men without equal rights.

Come to islam as there is only one god and Muhummad is his messenger. Halal food is the cleanest ways to slaughter any animal. It promotes rights for the animal and is only granted halal if the animal has a quick painless death.

  79. Newbie

All the religious rhetoric is interesting, I really appreciate getting other cultural prospective on the issue of religion. I will say this, I believe that more people have died on this planet in the name of religion than for any other single reason.

What is most important here though is that the public deserve the right to make an informed choice, TO BUY or NOT TO BUY Halal meat. Question, does the meat become Halal meat because of the method of killing or because of the praying to Allah? What is important to me is that which I put in my head, which in turn governs my heart and therefore my decisions in life. What I put in my stomach have no concern to me other than taste and health issues, what is put in the stomach soon leaves the body anyway.

When it comes to religion I am of a Christian mindset (not a practicing Christian) because of the hypocrisy in a lot of churches. A half truth is as good as a lie because you cannot make an informed choice, TO ACCEPT or NOT TO ACCEPT. Of the Commandments only two I deem necessary.
    1. A person can only loyally serve ONE MASTER, we all have to decide who or what that is and therein lies the biggest problem that the world has faced.
    2. LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF, all the other commandments are unnecessary in my eyes.

Up there in March you said that they cut the neck, jugular vein etc. How do the none halal chicken companies kill their chickens? Today the chicken I bought at a Super Centre, on the price tag it says Halal Bone – Breast Chicken. The other chicken breasts on the shelf were bigger and $19.00 for a pack of 2 breasts! You could as well buy a whole chicken. The Halal chicken breasts were about medium size and $8.00 or $9.00 for a pack of two chicken breasts. Perfect, that’s just what I wanted. I dont’ want to send $19.00 for 2 monstrous chicken breasts! I’m just wondering how the other company kills their chickens.

Also won’t it be better to have an open public discussion on de issue to give it credibility rather than hide behind some underground internet site and take pot shots at a Barbadian company.
I agree with a writer earlier who categorizes this as hatred.

I’m quite late to this conversation, but to the author of this article i would just like to tell you that everytime KFC in Barbados does Halal meat, there is a notice on the front door by the Barbados Halal Authority letting people know that on that day Halal meat would be served.
So in NO ABSOLUTE WAY is your statement, “There are many forms of Jihad, and Secret Halal is one way of making the society conform to Islam” true. Also Cheffette HAS NEVER SERVED HALAL. because if I’m right pork is served there.
I wish in the future you would not attack Islam or any other religion if you know nothing about it
