Ping Yark’s first 2011 edition: David Thompson connection to DLP UK Chapter money scandal

Former Prime Minister personally funded DLP UK branch

Inquiring minds want to know: Was it really PM Thompson’s personal money going to the DLP’s UK Branch… or did the money come from DLP Party coffers in Barbados?

In December of 2009, Ping Yark, the irreverent UK Bajan newsletter covered the DLP UK Chapter scandal…

“Jaws outside the meeting dropped too when it was revealed that despite all the balls, dinner dances, dances, coach trips and excursions organised by DLP UK down the years – not a single penny in donations has been received by DLP HQ since 1986. Stark contrast to the New York branch it must be said. Dutiful fully paid up members here are right in asking – where did all the money go ? Who had / has it ?”

… from Dec 2009 BFP article: Ping Yark asks – DLP UK Chapter Money Scandal. Where did all the money go?

The DLP wants this story to die, but Ping Yark is having none of that.

Ping Yark’s January 2011 edition follows up and it looks like a cover-up in progress to us too. The newsletter is reporting that David Thompson was personally funding the UK Chapter when the money should have been going the other way.

Now the old DLP UK board members want back in. Wuhloss!

Not our beloved David he is known to be involved in corrupting like the other fella whose name is King

  3. Does it really matter?

party funds are transferred to help different areas of need all the time.

Is this a real question of misappropriation by the local UK DLP supporters or are UK BLP operatives making up stories without substance?

If, however, David Thompson paid it from his own personal monies, whats the big deal?

    Hi Does it really matter?

Maybe it’s no big if Thompy paid for the chapter himself, or even if he gave DLP Headquarters money for the purpose. What might be a big deal is if the DLP HQ was so thick and unquestioning that they transferred money to the UK Chapter for years without any accountability about the finances – while the money was evaporating at the Board level. It kind of sets a tone and a standard.

Despite the fact that the late PM has been laid to rest for sometime now, the DLP website continues to mourn the lost of Mr. Thompson.

So distraught, are the maintainers of the site that they haven’t the strength to acknowledge the upcoming by-election on the 20th of January. Not even a picture of Mrs. Thompson either on campaign trail kissing a baby or by a rum shop canvassing some votes with the boys on the block.

Or is it a shrewd political strategy to keep Barbados in mourning as well and sympathetic indefinitely to :-

    (1) Ensure Queen Mara’s anointment and soon to be deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Family’s First or as some might Barbados’ first family, screw all the rest.

    (2) Keep the focus of the fact that while the economy continues deteriorate we all are suppose to mourn the lost until the next election so that this bunch of political ineptitude pretenders can cruise home in not on coat tails or their work but on ‘wet hankeys’.

    (3) Start building not a legacy of what David stood for but to start Barbados’ first political dynasty. That of, soon to be anointed Queen Mara where she will reign until 1 of the little princesses can take of the realm of St. John.
