Further Cabinet change revealed

With our tongues somewhat in cheek, BFP draws attention to a development in the recent Cabinet shuffle story that has been ignored by the other media.

Denis Lowe will now be known as the Barbados Minister of Flooding as this better reflects the results he has achieved in his position to date.

thats not fair. granted there has been some flooding but I contend that things would have been far worse had the drainage dept not done so much work ahead of rainy season. the rains have been coming incessantly and it would be unreasonable to expect the quantity of rain that came down yesterday afternoon to immediately drain away. i think that they actually did a pretty good job preparing.

Why after spending so much on the highway the problem of flooding around the Bussa statue?

  3. Unfair?

My home flooded out 9 days of the last 17. I wasn’t able to work 5 days trying to save what we could. We don’t live in a swamp. There is something terribly wrong for this to happen two years in a row it is getting worst. I don’t care what it is we want it fixed no excuses. Call governent nobody answers or say “get back to you” and never do.

There is no real real work or remedial plan that looks (just talkers talking as usual) at corrective actions for flood prone areas on many of the highways and by-ways across Barbados. Successive governments have failed and so have Lowe. If it ain’t tourism it ain’t our business

What is all the fuss about, you people forget that we live in a third world banana republic, you know, that place where politicians get fat pay cheques for doing nothing, people are awarded contracts over dinner, money is paid out to big name contractors time and time again, yet we get the same problems.

Just listened to Denis Lowe on Brass Tacks phoning from the buffet bar in New York claiming that the flooding is due to people building indiscriminately, particularly on the West Coast. The planning dept, which is a government body, give permission for these projects to go ahead. Therefore the Gov is partly responsible for the flooding which is completely ignored by Lowe’s Dept. Flooding in severe weather is likely, but flooding in the same place year after year is unacceptable & as such Denis Lowe should be sacked or be moved to allow someone more able to fulfil the needs of that dept. Flooding as has been seen is unacceptable given the work alledgedly done.

It seems the reason he wasn’t moved is that the DLP likes to have a yes man in the Environment Dept who will green light any & all projects that the elites want to do.

It is with total amazement that i listened to the Minister responsible for Drainage complaining in todays advocate that the Drainage Division should be involved in “ANY PLANNING DEVELOPMENT” Mr Minister where do you work? dont you realise that the Drainage Division is consulted by the Chief Town Planner on any Development which impacts on any Catchment areas, watercourses etc.?

In addition the noise about not buying trucks to last 5 years is so stupid. A five year old truck properly maintained has life in it. look at the volume of work those trucks do 7 days a week sometimes 3 shifts without maintenance come on man you need to do better than this
