Atlantic low tracking way north of Barbados – unlikely to grow into named storm.

Does God still smile on Barbados?

It would have been named “Alex” and for a day or so looked like it might develop into a tropical storm and pass over Barbados – but the National Hurricane Center now says that the Atlantic event is weakening and is tracking significantly north of previous estimates.

So we dodged the bullet again. When it comes to hurricanes, Barbados has been so blessed or lucky (take your choice) in recent decades that we Bajans  have grown a little complacent. Our governments have done the same when it comes to providing financial support for disaster preparations. Of late there’s been more talk about storm preparations but I’m not sure that’s been followed up with real actions.

At Grape Hall, we’ll keep praying, but it’s good to put aside some water, food and disaster equipment too!

Just out of curiosity, if you are renting a property is it the Landlord or your responsibility to barricade all the windows in an event of a storm? I plan on evacuating to family nearby as I have no idea whether this house even has hurricane straps on the roof. Most of the landlords I know provide and install wood to cover the windows, these things require drilling the walls and I certainly would’nt be doing that to someone elses house so Im left wondering.

My friend, your landlord should do that..unless the rent is cheap so you can deal with the matter.

Let me say something about this year Hurricane Season.
The forecast is very bad and hopefully nothing will come in our direction…but there is something new to be mentioned which is related with the increase solar activity. There are scientists which predicted an increase of storms in number and intensity due to the sun. We have to wait and see if this is going to happen.
