Bajans tiring of show business Government – another DLP Community Meeting flops

Ian Bourne (right) politely asks DLP James Paul "What happened to the Agriculture Protection Act the DLP promised in their manifesto?"

Politicians provide words without actions & actions contrary to their words.

It’s been two and a half years since we citizens turfed out the Barbados Labour Party government of Owen Arthur and Mia Mottley. We did so in part because we believed the words of David Thompson and the DLP. We believed they would at least try to do what they promised.

For the first year Bajans gave them a honeymoon. We understood that the DLP had inherited a mess. We understood that the BLP left the cookie jar empty after wasting and stealing what they could.

During the second year of the DLP government, citizens started to demand action from the David Thompson government. We wanted to see legislative progress, things happening – and some accountability for the massive thefts we knew had happened under the BLP.

During the election campaign David Thompson talked about the offshore bank accounts of BLP government members and threw a cheque in Owen Arthur’s face that the then Prime Minister had corruptly deposited into his personal bank account. Bajans wanted accountability and integrity laws to prevent future excesses and that was exactly what Thompson promised during his campaign.

But none of those things happened in the first two years of the DLP government. Not one of the DLP’s major election manifesto promises was fulfilled – they were merely words on paper.

Now, half way through year three of the Thompson DLP government even the slowest citizens get it: nothing changed with the election of the DLP. Not a damned thing changed.

The betrayal, the shock and the anger are building among Barbadians who have come to realise that the DLP is the BLP is the DLP.

The pot is boiling, and Ian Bourne’s new article is only the latest evidence that something is happening in the minds of ordinary Bajans. Song and dance shows masquerading as good government are no longer acceptable…

“What was expected to be a grand occasion turned out to be mere doldrums and trotting out more propaganda rhetoric to appease a withering old guard, the Democratic Labour Party’s MP for St Michael West Central paraded a list of plans for his constituency and barely listed any accomplishments – hardly what can be truly construed as a report, since this implies deeds accomplished.”

from the Bajan Reporter story Ruling DLP of Barbados fail to convince at St Michael West Central Constituency Report: Contradictions, Inadequacies & Disrespect (Part 1)

If you do nothing else today, you MUST read Ian Bourne’s article.

  1. Concerned

The Advocate has published a letter about this very subject today. Just need the Nation to do the same! At least it’s a (small) step forward from our press.

  2. John Da Silva

Good on Ian for taking the time and effort to record this. Politicians and political parties need to realise that in this digital era, it is much easier to expose them for what they really are – a bunch of liars who will promise anything to get elected.

  3. Brother Eddy

All the constituency meetings held same story. Only plans recited no notable achievements.Bare DLP pro paid for by the taxpayers of country. Council members doing the work party canvassers did. Who are they fooling?

Well anyone who really believed that there would be real change is disappointed, I too am disappointed but not surprised!
It is the same old, same old. Now the PM has health problems to care about and I understand that there is squabbling in the party too.
The DLP must be held to account for their false promises. Enough is enough.

  5. Bare Puke

I honestly believed that the DLP would have made significant strides in bringing about change that we all could see against a backdrop of known corruptive activity. I was so wrong about them. Now the question I must ask is: Who do we elect?

  6. Really ?

I would listen and take in Ian Bourne if he had an honest bone in his body or had he been a neutral observer he is none of the above, he is a joker and an idiot.

He does not gain a passing mark for honesty and truthfullness so therefore he has nothing to say that I would listen to.

  7. Really... Really ?

DUH!! Please tell me where is the dishonesty and the untruthfullness in Ian Bourne’s report. This is a typical DLP response…. never tackling the substance, just dealing with obfuscation. The DLP has become the party of Ministerial Tours, Out and About Greetings in the Constituencies, Show and Talk but no Action, Broken Promises, Deception of The Electorate Big-time!!

  8. Really ?

Keep fooling ones self with that thought process, plenty being done and people are working and visitors in droves a massive arrival figure for May and you talking a load of hog wash !!

I cant believe BFP let you post this because it’s the truth. Ian Bourne and father Desmond Bourne operate BFP and lucliky for Barbados most people who read the blog knows its full of lies. The BFP goal is to mash up our lovely island. Ian and Desmond Bourne should give up the blog business and go to a fat farm to lose their fat obesity and sloppy appearance. Two disgusting looking clowns.

    Really?

“Keep fooling ones self with that thought process, plenty being done and people are working and visitors in droves a massive arrival figure for May and you talking a load of hog wash !!”

Of course arrival figures are up for May, you had the Twenty20 going on. What will you do when you don’t have a BLP initiated project to fall back on?

People are working? Unemployment is over 10% and Standard & Poors is predicting that the situation will worsen. The acting PM is telling Bajans “Be Patient!” it should fit right in with the DLP’s economic strategy of “wait and see”.

Having been elected on half truths and innuendo, the party of Hartley is discovering that in Government you actually have to DO stuff! After two years in office you can’t continue to blame the BLP.

What I would like to know…..

Really what is the truth when we look at Government’s new “traffic plan” for Warrens? Is it not true that it would have been more cost effective (and also lead to better traffic flow) to put in a flyover than the spaghetti that the plan involves?

Is it not true that the Ministry traffic engineers were specifically blocked from considering flyovers because it would be politically embarrassing to the Thompson government?

I am just the average ignorant\passive bajan but
watching the BLP animals sink their claws and fatten their guts, only drop the crumbs for their pets, made me decide to vote for the first time.
I felt a feeling of relief when the DLP won.

Even tho we all know all partys lie cheat and steal,i didnt expect them to dissapoint me so early,i honestly thought that after such a big win and so much big talk, they would at least done somthing revolutionary before they slip up.

The revolution is that I am more poor today than i ever was under the BLP.All of my necessaties in life has doubled or trippled in price, the taxes imposed on my employer is threatening me and my coworkers employment.FREE BUS FARE FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN IS A JOKE!!!!
I would gladly give my children $3 every day for a term than pay $401 for road tax,$4 for a tin of tuna,$90 just to say hi to the doctor and $4000 a year in land tax for property i cannot get even get permission to build a sand castle on.

UNLESS I SEE THESE DISHONEST, THIEVING ,SCAM ARTISTS ON TRIAL FOR THEIR CORRUPTION………………..
I AM NEVER VOTING AGAIN! !!!!!!!!!!!
