Prime Minister Thompson: BLP “totally wasted several hundred million dollars” on failed Greenland environmental project – but he still nominated Liz Thompson to United Nations’ UNFCCC position!

“What we could have done if we could recapture…the several hundred million that was literally and figuratively dumped into Greenland? All of that was taxpayers’ money that was totally wasted,”

…Prime Minister David Thompson talks about the failed Greenland Dump project pushed by former Environment Minister Liz Thompson. Barbados Advocate: Previous Wastage Hurting Economy.

The consequences of wasting a billion dollars of taxpayer’s money? For Liz Thompson: a promotion!

If you need further proof that David Thompson doesn’t intend to hold the previous BLP government personnel accountable for the waste, theft and outright criminal rape of our future, you need look no further than watching the Prime Minister trying to suck and blow at the same time…

Suck…

A little over a week ago Thompson nominated former BLP Environment Minister Liz Thompson as our country’s choice for the prestegious job of UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) Executive Secretary.

Blow…

Now Thompson slams the very project that Liz Thompson championed – a project that failed because it was an ill-conceived disaster that would have turned into a full-blown environmental disaster had not better minds prevailed.

One Island with one Political Party

My friends, again you should take notice that the fighting between the BLP and DLP is a staged managed event much like professional wrestling. In public the wrestlers hurl verbal abuse, but the dance is carefully choreographed so no one really gets hurt.

The Prime Minister will scream about the poor judgment behind Greenland and hurl abuse in the general direction of the BLP because of the insane waste – but no one will go to jail for any corruption and the person who orchestrated the fiasco gets nominated for a cushy United Nations job!

There is only one political party in Barbados, folks. Once you accept that, the whole thing becomes very clear – as does the solution to ending this corrupt charade.

Previous wastage hurting economy

4/12/2010

If not for the wastage of hundreds of millions of dollars spent in projects like EduTech, Gems, Greenland and Hardwood Housing, Barbados would be in a better financial position to ride out the current economic crisis.

“I want you to imagine what this DLP administration could have had if it had at its disposal, the nearly $400 million that the previous administration spent on Kensington Oval,” Prime Minister David Thompson stated, referring to that facility a “white elephant”.

Speaking on the now heavily utilised Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre that had been termed a “monument of madness” by the previous BLP administration in the early years after its construction, Thompson suggested, “If you want to see a real white elephant in the context of Barbados, you can look at a place like Kensington Oval, in which nearly ten times the amount that was spent in Sherbourne was spent and yet it is difficult to get that particular facility operating to give returns to Barbadians.”

“Can you imagine what we could have done if we had the $300 million and counting that went into and what still goes into the Gems fiasco? What we could have done with that money in terms of improving the lives of Barbadians. What we could have done if we could recapture the more than one quarter of a billion dollars that is said to have gone into Edutech? Or the several hundred million that was literally and figuratively dumped into Greenland? All of that was taxpayers’ money that was totally wasted,” Thompson asserted.

The Minister of Finance told the audience gathered at the Black Rock Cultural Arts Centre to listen to the St. Michael North West Constituency Report that these projects were what were effectively constraining the island’s economic development.

Noting his pleasure with the quality of the constituency reports already given, he commended the members of his Cabinet for doing “so much, with so little.”

I hate it when you make everything so simple BFP. I hate it because you are usually right and you are today. We have only one political party. True.

It would be amusing to see our politicians in wrestling garb facing off against one another!!!

    not really John

Having been two years at the trough extra lateral support would be required for the ring.

Jabba the Hut would move quicker except for breaks between rounds to the food concessions.

The event would not be used to raise money for some charity but rather a further example of the public paying for the costs all the while mocking the Barbadian citizen and taxpayer as if a true democracy and real choice existed.

  4. One Barbados, One Party, One Leader!

    All Hail!

  5. Musical Interlude

I’m listening to Ella Fitzgerald singing “Cheek to Cheek” on swingtime radio on the net and I have a question for anyone who can remember. Was there a time in Barbados when swing and big bands played? Just curious.

These politicians take we for fools, they critercise each other but all of them are one, six is a half dozen.

    B.F:
You stated the above, what is well known to many of us! Why don’t you make some suggestions?
State your ideas on how this should be tackled and see if the public would swallow it.
It’ll be just a matter of weeks to find out if the public is happy.
I read on this blog some time ago, ideas about forming a third party and what name it should be called. Put your ideas into practice. The ONLY way ‘change’ is likely to be brought about is with another party with stated committed ideas.
We have a ‘two party’ who take turns to replace the other, so each can enjoy the ‘sweets’ at the expense of the ‘gullible rest’.
Two parties having a lack of accountability and transparency; what do you expect?

Hey Musical Interlude… in days gone by there was Percy Greene, Arnold Meanwell… others … that played swing. The person who tell you all about those days and the bands is Gene Graham and you can reach him at 428-9469

The politicians take turns mocking the barbadian public and reaping the rewards political scum like lashley are prime examples of what their intentions are. However i would have to say i would have like to see what they would have done with all hose millions cause i am sick of hearing their would haves should haves could haves.

As I have said before: This is yet another example that we now have firmly established here in Barbados a new class – THE POLITICAL RULING CLASS. In public the members of this class will scream and shout at the top of their lungs to make the mASSES believe that they are enemies, however, behind closed doors it is a totally different ball game – ONE LOVE!!!

  13. One Love

not one Love but one Trough

Its a relationship of convenience, opportunity and mutual security.

Are we enabling this sick relationship rip off?

The following statement appears on the UN Elections http://www.unelections.org website. Wunna should be ashamed of yourselves!!

“Thompson’s candidature has received mixed reviews. Some endorsed her candidature, calling Thompson “well equipped” for the post. In a press conference at UN headquarters on April 15, Thompson received the endorsement of CARICOM. A spokesperson for the group highlighted the candidate’s status as a native of a small island State, “somewhat removed from the great power intrigue and not necessarily an ideologue on either the North-South divide or East-West divide.” Consequently, her supporters emphasize the former Minister’s ability to substantially address and promote the issues of climate change for developing small nations, as well as being “politically talent[ed]…and [possessing] political gravitas befitting the importance of the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC.” Others are outraged by her appointment, including the Barbados Free Press, and cite failed ventures as Minister of Environment that resulted in the “wasting … taxpayer’s money.” Other critics describe her as “unethical …[and] totally untrustworthy.” “
