  1. reality check

This should be very very interesting BFP.

Thie citizens will now see what they get from their offshore, untendered prison contracts at double or triple of what it should have cost.

Lets hope it is not all negative.

No doubt someone will attack the objectivity of National Geographic.

  4. Hard Driver

I await with bated breath to watch this Wednesday night.
My only concern is how objective can an inmate be about his prison.
After all it is not supposed to be a joy ride. You are in prison because you have broken the law in some way and you are being punished.

  5. Penelope

I have the dvd “Hell in Barbados”, it was filmed at our Dodds Prison. You guys must see this, since you are so anxious to watch locked up abroad.
I’ll be happy to provide you with a *free copy.

hi penelope i read ur post about the dvd hell in barbados this had me intrested as i was released whilst the new dodds prison was being built i no it seems wierd but i always wondered what dodds would look like inside and out

  7. Penelope

hi zara, just so u know, I don’t think it’s “weird” wanting to know what inside Dodds looks like, there are hundreds of Barbadians who are just as curious lol. Honestly it looks quite hi-tech and i had to keep reminding myself that it’s in Barbados. The dvd was quite interesting, they spoke on many issues – the “food”, lack of exercise, homosexuality, the bugaloo (u have to see it to believe it) etc. I iwsh i could post the entire movie here for all to see

  9. Anon

She was in prison from Feb. 2003 until Nov. 2006.

  10. Is this Will Mellor’s experience?

  11. Penelope

Is it only me or was i up waiting in vain

  12. George

I agree – it wasn’t quite what I was expecting either

  13. Anon

How did the police know that she was carring drugs?

  14. Anon

They left out all the good bits, she smoking tampee, fights in the yard, warders easing into her cell at night for their pound of flesh, all the best parts left out.
    Pretty lame.

  15. Penelope

wait a minute, am i totally slow, what time did this show? i tuned in at 10 and it wasn’t on.

  16. Penelope

    yes it is

  17. George

  18. Penelope

yes i was looking for it on direct tv, i cant believe i missed it. hopefully i’ll catch the re-run on MCTV.

  19. ru4real

    You aint missed much.
What a let down it could have been anywhere did’nt say anything about the prison at all .

  20. paul sealy

That law only applies to me and you,the average bajan, not the big-ups…carry on.

  21. paul sealy

Anyone else noticed that when she was caught and had her trial it was just her and the judge…WTF so British ladies that get held at G.A.I.A.with cocaine get a one on one trial with a judge, but i that live here my trial is publicized for weeks in the Nation,Advocate,CBC and others worldwide and i am labelled a drug mule, criminal and everything else under the sun, reputation tarnished and a maximum of at leat 10 to 15 years..hmm..interesting.

  22. zara whittaker

when i was caught and went to court i was only in low court and it wasnt just me n the judge it was lie open court there were other people up for hearings and members of the public i case was in the papers and u can also find on the net

  25. An Acrostic Poem with a message

    Locked Up Abroad In Barbados

Laff it Off stars appeared last night
Only not on stage but in the Silver Screen light
    Characters portrayed on National Geographics
Kudos to all who got their debut flicks
Every Bajan wanted a moment to feel proud
Districts all over had their TV’s up load
Under watchful eyes and great scrutiny
People were looking out for each local celebrity
And if they were unfamiliar with the usual format
Bajans may now be asking “And dah is dat?”
Right when the narration finally got to the jail
Only a few minutes were spent, with little detail
    Arraigned and sentenced without recourse
Didn’t show why their conduct alerted our police force
I wanted more questions answered but they were brushed aside
No interaction in our jail, with whom did she confide?
Basic information like where and when
Are still as illusive as last night at 10
Research Barbados, give us more speaking parts
Bring greater awareness into Bajans’ natural arts
A coverage of life in our penitentiary
Dramatized by our people, that’s where the focus should be
Over expectations I know but it was all the hype and fuss
So I came away with nothing from Locked Up Abroad in Barbados

  26. Inspired from Locked Up Abroad In Barbados. People when backed into corners can do stupid things and even when given time in jail to think out their circumstance they often leave with conclusion more like “if I didn’t get caught”. Why can’t drug traffickers realize there is more attached to their wrong than being caught? What about the millions of lives they affect with the snowballing circumstances of evils attached to their come.

    The Pain In Cocaine

Tourists White English woman came to my country
Had intentions of taking back drugs strapped to her body
Expecting a child, she hesitated about carrying out her crime
Persuaded by evils, she believed it would only be, this time
Airport drugs enforcers caught her with tightened security
Incarcerated her for five years in our penitentiary
Now there she reflected on the folly she’d tried
Imprisoned with her baby growing inside
Never though realizing that the drugs she’d had
Could’ve caused thousand of babies to turn out bad
Our streets are roamed by those who turned to drugs
Cocaine long replacing their love ones hugs
And they snort, inject, ingest and inhale
Indifferent of the severity of being locked up in jail
No, I wasn’t moved by her compelling sad story
Eff she cuddah get away she wuddah sell pain to my baby!

  27. zara whittaker

i understand fully the damages of cocaine as i have seen it first hand and as i said i didnt do the show for people to feel sorry for me i done it in hope that i could stop someone making the same stupid mistake i was young and nieve at the time and have done a lot of growing up its a shame u cant do the same and see the show for what it stood for
