UPDATED: British Muslims Outraged Over Police Puppy… Really!

CORRECTION TO THIS STORY

Our thanks to a BFP reader who did some further research and discovered that one of the incidents reported in the Australian newspapers The Age and the Daily Star and then linked to in our report is untrue. These newspapers reported that the Halifax and NatWest Banks had scrapped the use of piggy banks as give-aways or being used in advertising because pigs are “unclean” to potential Muslim customers.

A YouTube copy of a British TV programme states that this story about NatWest is untrue and that the bank still gives out Piggy Banks to new young customers, and we at BFP confirmed this by going to the NatWest Bank website HERE.

The NatWest Bank website says Paint your own piggy bank – get a ceramic footballer or ballerina pig, complete with paints, if you set up a Standing Order of at least £10 per month”

And that is the great thing about the blogs. Folks can read the stories, disagree, research and correct the information.

Unlike the newspapers where the NatWest story is still displayed.

So… the issue of the piggy banks being dropped from the NatWest advertising is not true – at least now. Did the NatWest bank originally make such a decision and then recind it? We couldn’t find anything online one way or another. Perhaps a letter to the president of the NatWest bank would provide an answer – perhaps not.

As to the other items listed in this story, and the lead story about Muslims being outraged over a police puppy – if any reader comes across any information that these stories as reported in the major news outlets are untrue, we’d be happy to hear about it.

Marcus

Original Story…

New public housing developments and jails in Britain have their toilets installed at 90 degrees to the direction of Mecca – because Muslims must not face or point their business end towards Mecca when doing the necessary.

Many *** British banks have banned the use of “piggy banks” *** in advertising and promotion so as to not offend Muslims (*** NOTE the Correction appearing above), and some towns have banned pig toys or photos from municipal offices. The story “Three Little Pigs” has been banned from many British schools and Birmingham’s Bullring Shopping Centre no longer has a Santa Claus at … gasp… (whisper) Christmas – because Santa might offend “non-Christians”.

As some of Ian Bourne’s polo friends might say, “Things are changing over ‘ome” with traditions, customs and culture.

Next to go… police dogs.

  1. Next thing you know you’ll be prohibited from saying “My God” in reaction to a story like this, you can chastely whisper “Dear Allah” at widdershins on an approved Greek religious festival! The story you’re looking for would be this one and not any in my polo series. The UK really has gone barmy being politically correct!

  2. reality check

The United States started with a constitution that by in large attempted to separate Church and State.

The western industrialized countries need to insist on this from all of its citizens including muslim and not be intimidated every time a fundamentalist ( Jew, Christian or Muslim ) throws a “hissy” fit or straps on a bomb to kill innocent citizens.

Some of the Ottomans had very enlightened and tolerant sociteies giving rise to prosperous and vibrant era’s.

These intolerant fundamentalists need to be dealt with seriously as per the recent policy changes implemented in Denmark.

I am not sure if the direct quote put forward is indeed a statement made by former Australian Prime Minister John Howard but the truth of the matter is,it provides some food for thought. See disclosure below
    ===================================
Former Australian Prime Minister John Howard made this speech. Wouldn’t it be good to have a politician in Parliament with the guts to make one like it… (Commentary of another)
    ===================================
    Quote:
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques.. Quote: ‘IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.’

‘This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom’.

‘We speak mainly ENGLISH; not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society. Learn the language!’

‘Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.’

‘We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.’

‘This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other g reat Australian freedom,
    ‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE’.’

‘If you aren’t happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.’

  4. Jukecheckedeyskirt

Why do the world have to conform to the dictates of the muslimic religious community but yet the muslimic community does not comform or accept the rights of other religious groups to practice freedom of religious expression in their home lands. They leave their countries and migrate to other countries and demand more or less religious respect. I believe that what is good for the goose should be good for the gender. I think all religious groups should respect the beliefs and traditions of the country to which the are migrating too. After all it is not your country but the place you choose to start a new life.

you mean why does the world allow itself to be pressured to conform.

The reason is political correctness and guilt(that silly, pointless Christian emotion).

In a few short decades, this world will be an Islamic world
and no one will have done more to hasten that progress than the Christians,
    the silly guilt-ridden,politically-correct white Christians!

Christian Democracy is its own worst enemy.
It’s the only system that professes to allow someone else to kill it off, in the effort to prove how tolerant it is of other views.
    Frankly, it’s doomed!

    Please assume the ready position.
Place your head between your knees
    and kiss your ash GoodBye!

France has got it right. You want to be French? Then you have to accept that France is a mult-cultural, secular society. Fit in, or leave.

  9. Bimbro

I’ve already, described Britain as barmy (mad!!), perhaps now, you believe me, however, I’ve no reason to expect that Bim won’t be following in our wake.

    Jukecheckedeyskirt,

the Australians were clearly not impressed by such speeches. They not only voted out Howard’s government but John Howard lost his seat which he held for many years. Howard’s treatment of immigrants (particularly illegal migrants) and his support of “traditional” Australian culture was stated among the reasons for his election defeat. This was at a time when employment is at record high levels, the economy is booming and the Australian dollar is strong.

    ———-
You are correct the world does allow itself to conform. IT is time for the world of christians to kick out the religious asses out of their country who think God only listens to one set of people and that is Islam.
    —————————————————————–
The reason is political correctness and guilt(that silly, pointless Christian emotion).

    ————
That silly pointless christian emotion is the reason why there is not a complete outbreak of another world war. THe emotionless maniacs who kills innocents in the name of their God and for their religious way need some emotion to harness a conscience. Hate seems more to be the tolereance than love. Islam seems bent on hating to love rather than feeling comfortable with loving to hate.

I make no further reference to your lame comments

  12. Jukecheckedeyskirt

Regardless of what Australians thought of his disclosure the man made a few good points. Express your freedoms but do not seek to dictate them and expect that the country that host you must conform to your ways. I am not at all interested in the mans immigration policies or his ‘white wing’ views. Only the points he put forth concerning conforming and to some extent integration.

The world will be an Islamic world not because of christians but because it is the will of Allah (S.W.T).

  14. khadija

    what about the illumanati?

  15. Another fabrication?

Are these just fabricated stories to make people turn about the peaceful muslim minorities living in the west, as this BBC Channel 4 investigation shows?

  16. Pot'n Kettle

    Another fabrication

Thank you, thank you for that video link. It shows that these stories are not only false but malicious attempts to cause strife. Ian Bourne and BFP should issue an apology and remove these nonsensical posts from their respective blogs.

    Allahu Akbar.

  17. this is just silly. the british would have to be morons to do this

  18. Thomas Gresham

I am surprised and disappointed at BFP for pandering to this kind of hysteria.

The front page of “New Yorker” tries to parody the way some people are using stories like these, based on little, to undermine the Obama campaign. Our attitude to those attempts in the States should be the same attitude regards attempts to make the “other race” look crazed people secretly gaining in power wherever.

It is useful to remember that the the number of muslim MPs in the UK – a country where we are assured is quickly falling under Muslim control is – wait for it, 4 out of 646, or 0.6%. Which is less than their share of the population, which is a pretty amazing slip up for this supposedly omnipotent community. The ratio of High Court Judges, Generals, Leaders of Local Councils, CEOs, Board Chairman, Chief Constables, Journalists, is even less than 0.6% (and remember that is not 6%, but 0.6%).

  19. Wow, how did I become an infidel so fast? Do I form a club with Salman Rushdie, or is he just imaginary too?

  20. Pot'n Kettle

Ian Bourne, did you watch the video?

  21. Thomas Gresham

You do not need to be a muslim, (I am most certainly not) to decry attempts to dehumanise people who are different from us. You would have thought with our history you would not need to be told that.

The way racists and others dehumanise people is to make them sound foolish, crazy and yet secretly powerful. It is a well worn tactic used against blacks, Indians, Chinese, Jews, and many others. It is a tactic that the right in the US (often Christian fundamentalists) will use against Obama.

We can criticise injustice wherever it is and whoever carries it out, without dehumanising other people and races and pandering to prejudices.

  22. Backooman

    yawn yawn yawn.
A few illiterate immigrant muslims raise objections over a non-sensical issue and BFP just had to find it.
Nothing new from BFP. Barbados’s newest online “INVESTIGATOR” (re:advocate investigator of old).

‘Well said’, Gresham, as if these same people would give a **ck if it was happening to US, BLACK people!!!

Gresham, have u ever heard the expression, “ass about face”!!!! Well, that’s the posture which I consider your thinking to take. Time to stand up straight and start worrying about ourselves and not people who are n’t concerned about you.

  24. Bimbro

BFP, re: the Obama cartoon controversy; black women don’t wear an afro because it’s too, hard!!!! (doan laugh!!)

    Laaaaddddddddddddddddddd!!!!

  25. Pot’n Kettle: Watched the video and one of BFP’s items are false – the piggy bank issue as NatWest still uses them, and toilets aimed at Mecca is very questionable…

Muslims tend to keep potty biz away from Allah, they do not read Q’uran in loo nor do they use right hand; always left to wipe and they wash before and after.

It brings to mind the beds aimed for Mecca in video, again they advised that only for Islamic patients about to die who wished to face Mecca should they shift beds.

  26. ttobserver

Well i guess its no different here in the Caribbean. Trinidad for example has had to change the nation’s highest award, The trinity cross, because it was against Muslim and Hindu beliefs. I always thought that just like most of the countries in the Caribbean, Trinidad was a Christian country and that didn’t change when people of other beliefs made Trini their home.

Barbados had better watch out not to offend the Hindus. (I’m being sarcastic)

  27. Bimbro

ttobserver, congratulations on that shrewd observation, Sir. As usual, nobody commented when I submitted my post, above but yours confirms that I’m usually, six steps ahead of most people on here.

    Well done, tto!!!!

  28. Thomas Gresham

    Dear ttobserver.

The British brought indentured Indians to work in the sugar and rice fields of Trinidad and Guyana around 150 years ago. These immigrants were originally mainly Hindu and some Muslims, but some converted to Christianity as it was the only way to get into the schools or get jobs in the public sector during colonial times. Many families have people who are effectively Hindu and Christian.

Since then there have been waves of Chinese, who became largely Christianised, Christian Lebanese and Syrians and Portuguese immigrants who are Roman Catholic.

The population is very mixed. No one would describe Trinidad as a conventionally Christian country and it has not been so for 100 years. People growing up in Trinidad celebrate every religious festival. It is not bliss however. There are strong tensions and while work life and schools are mixed, politics has become increasingly racial.

According to the 2000 census the religious split in Trinidad is as follows:

    Roman Catholic 26%, Hindu 22.5%, Anglican 7.8%, Baptist 7.2%, Pentecostal 6.8%, Muslim 5.8%, Seventh Day Adventist 4%, other Christian 5.8%, other 10.8%, unspecified 1.4%, none 1.9%.

Christian denominations are therefore around 60% and non-Christians around 40% and it has probably been like that for 100 years.

Hi BFP, could u please release my post??

From the time I saw this article I thought something was fishy, but didn’t have time to research it…Oh boy!

  31. Kathy

This is the tip of the iceberg. See two British newspapers for samples of the story of two British schoolboys punished for not praying to Allah. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2247388/Schoolboys-disciplined-for-'refusing-to-pray-to-Allah‘.html

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1031784/Schoolboys-punished-detention-refusing-kneel-pray-Allah.html

  32. Backooman

Thanks for the video. Another pie in BFP’s face.
I wonder if they will apologise now.
Another case of islamophobia from BFP.
As I said before, yawn yawn ,yawn.

  33. sicky

these people should stay in muslims countries,if dey want to practice that religion.

  34. Mathilde

its made-up??? OH THANK GOD!! what a relief!!

  35. Rohan

BFP, why don’t you guys just declare yourself as
Barbadian Republicans. This is exactly the type of mongering that the right-wing conservatives are known for.

Funny enough, a quick check of a couple right wing sites shows the same type of “muslims hate puppies article” in the days before this post. I’m not insinuating that this is where you got the idea for this post from, but you guys are obviously feeding from the same trough.

Then I started to think about some of the other posts that made me think you guys should be card carrying conservative Republicans:

-Pro scientist (If the scientist is on the list of “30,000 Global warming deniers”)

-Yet Against the scientific method (If it present arguments questioning the existence of any God)

-Oh, but pro-religious (If it’s christianity of course)

    -Yet anti-religious (If it’s Islam)

And ofcourse: Anti-choice (women’s right to choose).

Let me know if you guys want me to ship you a sign up form for the Republican party. It’s really easy. You just have to sign away your ability to think for yourself 😉

    BFP says

I love how some folks create labels because then there is no need for further discussion!

But… if we could vote in the USA, we’d support Obama and we’ve already publicly declared that he SHOULD and WILL WIN.

So… what do you do now about your label?

There are six of us here, so it is very difficult to find us all agreeing about any subject!…. EXCEPT for ITAL!

  36. Thomas Gresham

    Dear Rohan,

What I don’t get is how we, a people who have suffered so much at the hands of colonialists, colonialists who justified their criminal racism through appeals to god, should then feel no shame in courting the same practices these racists used to enslave us while they built pretty parish churches – dehumanize the other race, make up stories to ridicule how foolish “the other” race is, and argue that our god is morally superior to theirs because he is tolerant. You are quite right that the Republicans use these tactics all the time.

I find it odd how the parable of the Good Samaritan is so lost on all those professing to be good Christians. The story is about tolerance and inter-racial harmony. The Jews were taught to hate the Samaritans and the Samaritans were taught to hate the Jews.

Sadly, it is too much to expect BFP to apologise for peddling falsehoods that pander to racists – though they would gain credibility by doing so and they would be forgiven – but I hope they at least take some time to reflect. We learn everything from our mistakes and little from our successes.

  37. Thomas Gresham

Dear BFP, please release my post.

  38. Jukecheckedeyskirt

    Release my two posts BFP

    BFP say:

    Hi Jukecheckedeyskirt

found them and released them. Thanks for letting us know you had something stuck in the spam basket. Sometimes we miss them in all the adverts for viagra and nigerian bank scams! When you tell us about them we can search under your name and find them in the thousands of spams.

How many spam posts have we received since we installed the new anti-spam software 15 months ago?

“Akismet has caught 337,388 spam for you since you first installed it.”

  39. Rohan

    BFP,
Point taken, I’ll have to remember that it’s a group of you guys/gals with your own mind.

You guys sure keep me guessing though..Some days after reading a post I put my head in my hands and weep for all humanity…other days I think you guys are the greatest thing since wonderbread.

Guess we’ll see what tomorrow brings…

  40. Rohan

Thomas, you made some good points man.

    Maybe some counterbalance is needed:

    http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2008/07/its_a_goddamned_cracker.php

Webster Cook says he smuggled a Eucharist out of mass, a small bread wafer that to Catholics symbolic of the Body of Christ after a priest blesses it. He didn’t eat it as he was supposed to do, but instead walked out with it.

What happened next? Death threats from wonderful christians from all around the world ofcourse.

    Ahh the humanity.

  41. J

Ahhh!!! Rohan. Roman Catholics believe that the wafer becomes the literal body of Christ, and that is why they are offended.

You and I know that it is just a highly processed white bread wafer.

  42. Rohan

    J,
To say it’s a mad mad world would be an understatement.

  43. Kay

The differance is that all good Catholics will pray for the gentleman that he should see the error of his ways.
