Website Of Barbados Auditor General Puppy To Shut Down

Finally! Auditor General Of Barbados Establishes Official Website

For two years, Barbados Free Press has been calling upon the Auditor General of Barbados to publish his annual reports online.

One year ago, we established the “official” website of Toothless: The Auditor General Puppy Of Barbados. Our purpose was to mock and embarrass the Auditor General into establishing a website.

We are pleased to report that as of February 15, 2008, the Auditor General of Barbados, Mr. Leigh Trotman, now has an official website and has published the last four years of annual reports online. (Official Government Website: Auditor General of Barbados)

Whether Toothless had anything to do with the creation of the Auditor General’s website, or whether a change of government was the deciding factor – the big winners are the citizens of Barbados. Although there is a long way to go before we have transparency, accountability and a commitment to integrity throughout our government – this is a long-overdue first step.

A damned shame that even the Auditor General had to be dragged kicking and screaming towards public accountability and transparency.

We’d really like to know from Mr. Trotman whether or not the new government had anything to do with this development – or if the February timing was a coincidence.

Barbados Free Press Will Keep Our Promise

Toothless the Auditor General Puppy promised that he would take down his mock website when Mr. Trotman put up an official website and published the past 15 years of reports. Here is what Toothless said…

barbados-auditor-toothless.jpg

I’ll Take Down This Website When My Master Puts Up His Own!

I’m going to leave this website up until the Auditor General of Barbados puts up a website and makes his annual report available online for all citizens. As a matter of fact, I’ll leave this website up until Mr. Trotman posts online the annual reports for the last 15 years.

Mr. Trotman will probably want to put his email address up so citizens can send him tips about wrong-doing or waste by government officials. That would be a really good idea too!

(from the website of Toothless – the Auditor General Puppy Of Barbados)

The Auditor General has only put up the last four years of reports on the internet, but he has put his contact information and email address up so that citizens can send him tips, information and questions.

So… Toothless the Auditor General Dog will take down his website on May 1, 2008.

Well done, Toothless!

    Good work,

Would Trotman bother to put up a website without your constant mek sport of him?

    Tek a bow, BFP!

  2. akabozik

Thank you BFP. I echo Jason’s comments that this would never have happened without your blog.

  3. Adrian Loveridge

I am watching with eager anticipation to see the accounts for Hotel and Resorts Ltd (GEMS) from 2001 to appear on the Auditor General’s new website.
Will GEMS also have a forensic audit?

  4. Wishing in Vain

As you may have noticed many gov’t websites have been updated this is the mandate given by the new Prime Minister that all electronic media needs to be current.

This in itself was a challenge as many gov’t sites were maintained by a loyal blp party member.

    *********************

    BFP says,

Yes, we wondered about that WIV.

Will somebody PLEASE tell us the name and company of the “loyal blp party member” who was in charge of many government sites.

    Thanks!

  5. Dr. Justin Robinson

Great to see that the Auditor General’s reports are now online. This will greatly enhance teaching and research on these critical issues at UWI. We look forward to much more information being made accessible to the public.

  6. Tony Hall

This is a good development. The previous administration did not want the Auditor-General to set up a website because it would have exposed a little earlier what we are hearing now. This will also educate us citizens. PM Thompson realised that this is not an era of politics as usual and has set benchmarks. You are going to be seeing some other implementations soon. That is why I am urging BFP to give the gov’t time. ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY.

    *********************

    BFP says,

But no government insider or the government itself has explained why David Thompson failed to adopt the Ministerial Code as and when he promised.

Also worrying is the total lack of transparency and lack concern of concern over perceived and actual conflicts of interest by the Prime Minister in his use of borrowed corporate jets.

Thompson must DO and LEAD or his words become as nothing.

  7. Jerome Hinds

    BFP,

I can appreciate you eagerness to see things being done by this MOST transparent DLP administration

It reminds all of us about the hysteria you caused with your promised money – laundering story………some 13 months later you have not DELIVERED on your promise !

Here is where the DLP beats you to a draw……we campaigned on a platform for CHANGE….now here is our record to date :

    * Unneccessary costly consultancies have been removed from the backs of tax payers !

    * Subsidies on essential food items have been given to ease the poor !

    * Over 1000 NHC tenants will own their units by the end of April 2008 !

    ( Nation news 27 March , 2008 page 20…..read how excited the owners are ! )

    * 500 house lots will be offered to first time homeowners by May 2008 !

    * The Auditor General report is now online !

    * The public is given updates every THURSDAY after CABINET meetings !

99.9 % of the VOTING public in Barbados welcomes this CHANGE !

Too bad that BFP…….finds itself outside the 99.9
    % !

P.S And all of this is only after 44 days after the delivery of the THRONE SPEECH………..56 more days to go before the 100 day deadline is met !

I am excited…….never before in the history of INDEPENDENT Barbados has a popularly elected government achieved so much so soon !

    *********************

    BFP says,

Without rules of conduct – for a starter the Ministerial Code that was promised and then discarded – all of the above means nothing because it is at the whim of people and not under legally enforceable standards. The BLP government started out so well too!

And don’t brag too much about the 500 building lots. The houses that are being built do not conform to even minimal building standards and the government does not have the system in place to ensure the quality of construction. More on that soon.

  8. Hants

    BFP says

“The houses that are being built do not conform to even minimal building standards.”

Jerome said “500 building lots” not houses.

” all of the above means nothing” says BFP.

It means a whole lot to those who were neglected while “according to you BFP the Owing After administration was tiefing hundreds of millions of taxpayers money.

Prehaps the Billion in cost overruns did not occur and our grand children won’t have any debt.

It would be a good idea to send out a print edition with your Demand for ITAL.

Show why after 44 days you desperately want the Ministers to declare assets and sign a code of conduct and show the people of Barbados why you think they have elected another bunch of crooks.

100 days BFP. If they don’t deliver as promised, I will not contribute another post in defence of the DLP on this blog.

You may not trust David Thompson and the DLP but I do.

Jerome Hinds please continue to deliver progress reports on a regular basis.

    ************

    BFP say

    Hi Hants,

    Trust… but verify!

Now… can we get SOMEBODY from the government to explain why Thompson did not adopt his Ministerial Code immediately upon being elected as he promised?

April 15th is a little over two weeks away.

I hope you are given reason to maintain your trust Hants!

    Robert

  9. Jerome Hinds

Thanks for pointing out that trick…..BFP try to pull on me !

It is true I stated 500 house lots ( that is land for houses to be built on by the owners ) which is different from what BFP suggests I said….houses built by the DLP !

About houses…..the DLP has pledged to provide 2500 houses in this term ( 5 year period ) !

I know you at BFP would be happy to know that this DLP gov’t will be resuming work on the Country Park Towers at Country Road, St. Michael in about 3 weeks time .

This was a project that the BLP gov’t started then abandoned…..when they choose to steal money for themselves and leave the poor people
    ” HOMELESS “

  10. passin thru

BFP is correct that the houses being built by private owners or the government do not comply to minimum standards. Go to http://researching.wordpress.com/

  11. Hants

I hope you are given reason to maintain your trust Hants!

    Robert

We are on the same page Robert except that I am more “lenient” because there is a demon in me that does not allow me to crossover like some former dems.

I expect David Thompson and the DLP to reward its supporters by being the anthithesis of the former BLP administration.

We DLP supporters want payback for our support.
We want Honesty,Transparency, Integrity and Accountability.

While I will not hold them rigidly to time frames like BFP I expect the same result because I believe.

  12. Hants

With regards to housing, people are forced sometimes to build “shelter” because of the cost of constructing a Hurricane proof, earthquake proof house in Barbados.

Prehaps Government should reduce spending on Flyovers, Prisons and Cricket stadiums and spend more on good housing. OOPS.

Rephrase that “the BLP SHOULD HAVE SPENT”.

  13. Tell me Why

Here is where the DLP beats you to a draw……we campaigned on a platform for CHANGE….now here is our record to date :

    * Unneccessary costly consultancies have been removed from the backs of tax payers !
****Now we are having advisors to replace them.

    * Subsidies on essential food items have been given to ease the poor !
****While one set comes down, another set is going up

    * Over 1000 NHC tenants will own their units by the end of April 2008 !
****What about housing for the poor if you giving away the same poor housing. It would be better to empowered the those living in these units to purchase they own home.

    ( Nation news 27 March , 2008 page 20…..read how excited the owners are ! )
****missing, the squatters who will find difficulty in renting units above the $35.00 per week units you are giving away.

    * 500 house lots will be offered to first time homeowners by May 2008 !
****We are seeing playing fields for residence being dug up for housing.

    * The Auditor General report is now online !
****This is a positive issue. FULL MARKS.

    * The public is given updates every THURSDAY after CABINET meetings!
****Nothing new with this one. What is missing is the Transparency and Integrity Legislation, Ministers Code of Conduct and the other Election promises.

99.9 % of the VOTING public in Barbados welcomes this CHANGE!
****You are always wrong with numbers. Hope you are not an Accountant because the company will be operating on borrowed time. Remember, the .1% (the point one percent) cannot tally the 10 seats the opposition won.

  14. Jerome Hinds

    BFP,

As I stated earlier in one of my postings above, this is how important the THRONE SPEECH is as can be gleaned from the link below .

    http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20080327/lead/lead6.html

The DLP is well on it’s way to achieving quite a few of it’s goals in it’s THRONE SPEECH !

  15. Jerome Hinds

    Tell me Why,

Some good observation points you have made above……but the essence of them all is that this DLP has achieved a trmendous amount of good will so fall in less than 50 days of these announcement in the THRONE SPEECH 1

Even the DEMS MOST ardent critics…have declared ‘FULL MARKS ”

    * The Auditor General report is now online !
****This is a positive issue. FULL MARKS.

    Now…..TELL ME WHY ?

  16. Thistle

This morning I was told something that made me feel good. A friend of mine, who is a STRONG Bee, and always will be, said that she is very pleased with the way the new Government is progressing, and what a Statesman David Thompson is! Although she is a staunch Bee and I’m a staunch Dem, we have been close friends for umpteen years and we never fall out over politics. I think that’s the way it should be in life. I was very heartened by her words, especially after reading some of the comments on this blog.

  17. 94

Tell the truth though, patience is a virtue. Perfection is impossible in humans unless all our weaknesses and strengths make us perfect humans. I don’t know.

I like Hants’ approach. BFP surely knows that while they may insist on certain behaviours from the new gov’t, (after all they endorsed it) everything takes time, and therefore all the hissy fits count for very little. Even time takes time, lol.

However, I do believe that the gov’t meant every thing it said. It must have since it surely knows that the people have no intention of putting up with more crap.

So BFP, even where and when you are right on the money, take it easy, Rome was not built in a day! Stop your controlling attitude to everything. Can you do anything to stop the ice in the Arctic from melting away? Now there is something!

    *****************

    BFP says,

So who paid for the jet that took the PM to and from New York City? What was the cost? Who owns the jet? Does the jet owner do any business with the government?

That doesn’t take any new laws… just integrity, honesty and transparency.

    No laws… merely ethical behaviour.

Are you saying we have to wait for the ethical behaviour as well as the legislation?

    BFP,

Judging from the comments of 94 & others above……I believe it is time you guys go on that long sabbatical I suggested !

Probably you guys can keep away until 2013 / 2014 !

WE will manage this blog site in your ABSENCE !

    ****************

    BFP Says,

The DLP haven’t updated their own blog since before the election. What makes you DLP supporters think you would bother to manage BFP? 😉

So… who paid for the jet that took the PM to and from New York City? What was the cost? Who owns the jet? Does the jet owner do any business with the government?

    ………………………………………………………………………………….
Oh No Jerome!!!!! That mean we will have a political ‘Black Out’ and the electorate will be no better. Although I hate the unnecessary over-hyped and over-sensational headlines, BFP is still playing a pivotal role in the dissemination of news for the public.

By the way BFP and Jerome. What the heck going on with the Sports ministry, although I was concerned about the presentation of a big able car to a student for being ‘Sports Personality of the Year’. I am now at a loss to see the said big able car being taken away. This is the greatest insult of all times. It seems that these Ministers must enrol for “Shut yuh mout classes” and “No comment classes” instead of the constant blabbing. You have five years, cut down on the talking, cut down on the promises – remember you have some outstanding promises already. Spend time knowing your ministries inside out so that you will never embarrass yourself again.

  20. Hants

Jerome Hinds please leave BFP alone. We need them to keep doing their thing.

We should thank them for providing a public service.

Also note that the ONLY thing they have pointed out is the DLP not enacting ITAL.

Let them focus on that and you can keep showing us the good work being done by the Dems.

  21. 100%

For those who don’t really know anything about Information technology there are some things you need for a WEBSITE unlike BFP which is a BLOG (so please don’t make any comparison). You need money, time, and a skilled programmer. Let it be know that the website was NOT started because of politics. On average it takes about 9 months to develop a SOLID website. You got to get the money from government to pay the programmer plus the programmer handles more than one job at a time so the process is even more drawn out. The website took about 10 month to build so just posting a correction
