St. Kitts & Nevis Democrat Falsely Says Barbados Thompson Administration Has Enacted Anti-Corruption Legislation…

“In Barbados the Thompson Administration was swept into office on an anti – corruption platform and has managed to enact anti-corruption legislation after only a few weeks in office because it was a priority.”

… St. Kitts & Nevis Democrat article Integrity In Public Life

Actually, the article is very good aside from the fact that they are totally wrong about the Thompson Administration having already enacted integrity legislation.

Perhaps the author heard Prime Minsiter Thompson say that his DLP government would immediately adopt the draft Ministerial Code if elected – but the author doesn’t know that the government reneged on its promise.

Nonetheless, the St. Kitts & Nevis Democrat article Integrity In Public Life is well worth reading.

    – but the author doesn’t know that the government reneged on its promise.

They did say that it would be within 90 days….right? So they actually still have about a month to make good on that. Lets see what happens. Maybe they will surprise you!

    *******

    BFP says,

    You are Wrong.

The DLP said that immediately upon taking office they would adopt a Ministerial Code. They did not, and are now seeking to delay that by falsely indicating that it is part of the integrity legislation for which they provided a 100 day time frame.

Thompson reneged on his promise. The Cabinet could adopt the Ministerial Code this very afternoon. It would take about 10 minutes.

This was thoroughly covered in our article Barbados Cabinet Ministers Free To Accept “Gifts” From Persons Wanting Government Approvals Or Contracts

Integrity In Public Life … this was the title of a screenplay which the late Tom Adams submitted to Parliament way back when which got no where.

Sorry, not a screenplay, an Act, …. ok same thing.

The BFP said over 365 days ago that a story on Money Laundering coming in a ” few days ” time !

    Were they RIGHT ?

    Ha…..Ha…..Ha……!

Let’s have a beer …….we may guzzle a case of Banks before BFP get around to us !

Jerome, we now have ‘a change’ for consultants. Remember ‘grave diggers’ are now professionally known as ‘soil technicians’ Ha Ha got another one on you.

Look out for the various advisors alias consultants. Hon Denis Lowe have one and the PM now have one. Who next to get one?

Since we are talking about transparency, how come Hartley Henry’s salary is based on secrecy.

Answer this question and stop the spinning, you might get dizzy.

Seems as if you have been hanging out with Owen Arthur of late.

Your point re the money laundering story has been made. You need however to compose yourself in order to maintain any credibility.

Perhaps rebrand rather than compose is a more politically correct word.

To 2 cents & Tell Me Why ,

This David Thompson Administration is the most TRANSPARENT gov’t in the history of Post Independence Barbados !

In a mere 7 weeks in office :

    * A 1/2 million dollars of ” pig feed ” a.k.a Consultant fees have been STOPPED !

    * The salary of 2 CEO’s ( Boo Rudder & Ian Estwick ) of the NCF have been REGULARISED !

    * Tyrone Lovell’ s $ 360.00 per day Consultant fee have been TERMINATED !

    * Philip Goddard’s ( Minister’s salary of
$ 15,000.00 plus other perks ) have been STOPPED !

    * Flour & feed prices for the vulnerable in our socIety have been SUBSIDISED !

These are the HALLMARKS of a CARING & SENSITIVE gov’t !

    Bajans are so THRILLED !

    Jerome Hinds,

You sound like an American now! They are able to achieve an infinite number of FIRST on a single subject by just inserting the word “SINCE”.

My standard of transparency makes no reference to a point in time.

I am not going to ask what was the source of cash to support the enormous DLP election advertising budget. Especcially since 90% of the said advertising budget was paid in advance.

I am not going to ask how much the Rihanna Fete cost the tax payers.

I am not going to ask any questions about the private jet, in particular the circumstances under which it was first offered, or how much it cost tax payers or whether any promises were made implicitly or explicitly in exchange for its use.

I am not going to ask how come the BS&T sale seemed to have been engraved before January 22nd, 2008.

What I would like to know is how is it that 7 weeks into its new job, your government has refused to signed the people’s employee handbook, a.k.a “The Ministerial Code of Conduct”!

I am not going to cloud this current discussion with appeals in relation to integrity legislation or freedom of information, that is for another day.

On your score sheet above, I will give you kudos on all points except the flour and feed subsidy. However, I know that in MOST CASES, the honeymoon is going to come to an end. The good intentions and the honest zeal will fade. Temptation will prevail over good judgement and sound character. Honesty will be overcome by greed, compassion will be eclipsed by apathy, comradeship by vindictiveness, industry by complacency. It is human nature and it will happen.

We the voters of this “hey” country would like to be armed and ready with the right instruments like an Ministerial Code and Integrity legislation when this time arrives!

    2 cents,

I was right……I know you would have agreed with me !

Your words above are the shameful characteristics of the tieffing BLP gov’t that was just booted out of office !

His Most Excellent, PM David Thompson & his team of caring & sensitive DLP Ministers have already begun to clean up the ROT !

You relax about the Ministerial Code…..after consultation with the people who put us there…. we will implement it !

In case you forgot…the electorate who put us there told us on 16th January , 2008 quite CLEARLY……do not rush off and implement wunnah plans without consulting de people !

That is why the BLP is where there is today…..in OPPOSITION !

The DEMS listens & cares !

    We won’t be rushed !

There is 14 years of BLP SLUDGE to clean up !

    * Tyrone Lovell’ s $ 360.00 per day Consultant fee have been TERMINATED !
    ………………………………………………………………………………….
    I would like to know
    When was the contract started?
    Was it a 7-days a week contract?
Was he receiving monies after the 15th January?
    To whom was he assigned?

These answers should be in the public domain.

Boo Rudder $12,000 salary for doing nothing as shocking as “”Minister”” Phillip Goddard and Trevor Marshall free monies. I never heard of Tyrone Lovell. Who is he and why was he paid from the Treasury?

Mia Mottley please stop shouting you are bursting my ear drums. Mia Mottley please tell us about these consultants. Anymore to come? Save yourself and Arthur further embarrassment by letting us know who they are before PM releases other names.

There obviously was a shameless rape of the treasury for fourteen years by the corrupt BLP. Boy am I glad they gone. Hammy and Glyne disagree with Mia and say they like the constituency councils. Over to you Mia.

BFP you should do a post on consultants for discussion.

Remember Jerome, the DLP did not only win the election based only on a time for change (Stopping the four-term) but due to all the promises of Integrity and Transparency legislation, Code of Conduct for ministers, declaration of assets by minister and a whole heap of “we will do” when we win the government talk.

We know the reason why the BLP loose the G’ment and if this administration continue on this vein by failing to implement the promised things and if all the things that were criticised like the EPA and CSME and Petro Caribe and LIAT and most of all ‘the ink drying talk’ about BS&T/Neal & Massey merger.
