Barbados Death Threats: Copy Of Letter From Adrian Loveridge To Prime Minister Owen Arthur

The Right Honourable Owen S. Arthur, Prime Minister

Sir,

Two days ago the brother of the Chief Justice, Mr. Peter Simmons, telephoned me at our hotel to voice concern about any possible linkages between himself or brother, and what can only be described as almost daily death threats against myself and wife.

Most of these death threats and similar vows to burn down our hotel have been placed on two very popular blogs: Barbados Free Press and Barbados Underground.

Barbados Free Press recently advised that they have identified at least one of the death threats to IP: 69.73.212.201 timed at 10.39pm (GMT) on 28th December 2007.

I understand that with the assistance of the Police and Cable and Wireless, it is possible to trace the sender (s) of these deeply offensive threats which are often linked to pornographic websites and contain explicit vile comments.

While, we may not entirely share the same views on every subject, I am sure you would not condone this sort of behaviour and I would respectfully ask for your assistance to initiate a Police investigation into this matter.

I promise you my full co-operation to track down this person (s).

During the nearly 20 years of residence on Barbados, my wife and I have tried to make a useful contribution to our field of endeavour, tourism.

Of the 106 hotels on Barbados rated by the worlds most visited website, TripAdvisor, Peach and Quiet, is currently ranked #2, which are entirely based on actual guests comments.

I thank you for considering this matter and wish you and your family a healthy and happy 2008.

Adrian Loveridge

Adrian I don’t know why you think that the PM will do anything. The police haven’t done anything in a month about the threat to murder Mrs. Knox. Why would you get different treatment?

BFP we need another print edition to leave on the ZRs!

GREED always destroy’s. The ship is sinking and these people will be jumping overboard to save their own hides. Soon come, a bunch of canary’s singing de blues.

Spin doctors only add insult to a grave harm perpetrated by wantonly voracious greedy individuals on a productive couple. This has to be a new low point for Barbados history. The late PM Tom Adams or PM Errol Barrow would never have permitted ANY ANY people using intimidation of death threats and destruction of a persons personal property.

Take heed that absolute power corrupts and this is a perfect example.

As elections have been called, and parliament dissolved, is OA actually Prime Minister at the moment or is the GG in charge? Just wondering.

    BFP:

Since you made that IP known, has there been any further postings/threats come from this IP…..either on BFP or Keltruth or BU??

    BFP Comments

We are not going to comment on that specific issue at this time.

  5. What makes anyone think that C.O.P Dottin’s relationship with the political class would be any different than what pertained under Durant? It is the office of the Commisioner of Police that is tied down by the politco’s, so it matters little who hold the office.

This is a very serious matter. Since the IP address has been identified this matter shoud be pursued vigourously. Did Mr. Loveridge copy this letter to the COP, AG and the CEO of Cable and Wireless? Maybe he should copy it to an international agency. Such an agency might not have jurisdiction in Barbados but at least it would cause embarrassment to the powers that be in Barbados. I feel sorrry for the Commissioner if he cannot order an investigation into this matter. People like Charles Lunn must be turning in their graves and Keith Whittaker must be shaking his head in disbelief.

Tony, we are 100% with you that only international embarrassment will change anything. Next year’s report from Transparency International will be a shock to some folks…. and that is just the beginning.

    Happy new year to all…. been watching 4 a while…time 4 action is NOW…

    on the electronic death threat…..
see section 14 of the Computer Misuse Act
you should write the Comm of Police and the DPP
if they do nothing, track the “owner” of the IP address and prosecute them privately….

Adrian, I work for CWC in the UK and deal with Barbados regularly I’m not sure what the legal standing is etc however I will send this link and the details to our team in Barbados to see if they can assist and see how we go forward from here..

    Stuart…

    I am very grateful.

Whoever is semding these offensive messages is not doing the reputation of Barbados any good whatsoever.

    Thanks again.

Tony says… “People like Charles Lunn must be turning in their graves and Keith Whittaker must be shaking his head in disbelief.”

I would like to think that there are a few Policemen as courageous as the above mentioned.

It would be unfortunate for the Barbados Police Force if they no longer have “Real Policemen”.

Adrian, unfortunately the Barbados team advised this needs to be progressed directly through the local Authoritys as they cannot release the information to General public. I’m sorry but you will have to log a complaint with the police and request they investigate they will then contact CWC.
