Why should people trust the Barbados Free Press if they don’t even know who the HELL is behind it? You want transparency and you’re operating under cloak and dagger? If your stories were true to begin with you would have no fear of being found out or held for libel. You slanderous fools.

  2. Blas-feam!

Why should THEY show their transparency when for years, others did what they liked?
    Please!
Elections are called for next month, go do your politicking elsewhere!

  3. Adrian Loveridge

    Great picture!

    Just two questions!
Could we ask Ian Bourne at the SSA if the garbage was properly wrapped and were the bins photographed in St. Joseph?

    No campaigning BEFORE Christmas?

  4. Observing

Adrian, I believe it was the DLP that said no campaigning before Christmas. The BLP couldn’t give a rat’s rear end about people and their need to celebrate and enjoy Christmas. They’re already out there fighting for dear life.

  5. FamilyB

Emma, you’re fighting a losing battle, attacking Adrian Loveridge and other BFP bloggers will not solve your problem of the BLP’s political uncertainty. We have seen the light and will continue to use this and other available media to discuss the issues that are rampant in this country.

What you should devote your time to doing is trying to convert the 23 who are having restless nights at this time. Try to convince the people who know better why they should allow Barbados to be raped, pillaged and given away…

Not surprised that Smiley Marshall head now lies in a dump heap !

He is a pathlogical liar…..it took long for someone to DECAPITATE him !

Anyway guys information coming my way indicates that the results of that opinion poll Harold Hoyte referred to in his Friday’s article will be published in the Sunday Sun !

The poll was conducted before the announcement of ELECTIONS and before OWEN’s now INFAMOUS BLP – TV speech !

The SYNOPSIS : The BEES leading the DEMS by approximately 10 % points !

A good position for any CHALLENGER…..given the fact that the party programme has not been fully disclosed !

The findings at this stage is quite similar to where the JLP was in relation to Portia’s party when the election date was announced !

Irene Sandiford seemingly doing well against CHICKEN George !

Talking about GEORGE…..George Belle is part of the polling team !

When we finish with Owen Arthur after the elections he can go and live in Guyana.

I am so glad he called elections. Insulting Bajans in favour of Guyanese. We will show him who is boss now. He will bawl after the elections are over.

Sweet life done Owen boy. Start packing your things at Illaro Court.

If we find out that you shred any important documents between now and election day, you will be of the residents at the overpriced prison at dodds.

We Bajans sick and tired of you.

Why should we trust your Prime Minister after he makes this statement

“I’m motivated in a special way by the determination never too see the DLP hold the reigns of office in this country’.

I have one of those marshall posters hung up in my house.

my friend’s home received 5 cards in the mail yesterday from randall rouse. all 5 are in the trash…..everyone’s voting for Dale!

  13. Makaveli

Depending on where you go in St.Joseph you could see either candidates cards, posters in the garbage. In some areas, almost everyone would be voting for one of the two candidates. That’s how it is, voting tends to go by families…in some areas almost everyone is family. I don’t read anything into the picture of the trash can, St.Joseph was one of the closest in 2003, it may very well be the same in 2008.

What level of seriousness is the DLP attaching to the Guyanese vote here in Barbados?

Remember that Tom Adams did a similar thing during his time. I have a Guyanese friend who many years ago voted for the Tom Adams even though she was not registered or Legal at the time she voted.

So this thing about illegal Guyanese not being able to vote does not cut with me. I have proof to the contrary!

  17. Andrew

Well now everyone knows where your trash can is

  18. Wishing in Vain

This election is one revolving around the quality and manner of service, this is also about addressing the corruption that is taking place by owing and his clan.

  19. De Original

Dale Marshall seems right at home in that trash bin. I implore all Bajans who believe in Integrity, Accountability and Transparency in our country’s affairs place the posters of Barbados Labour Party canidates from Peter Phillips in St. Lucy to those of Lynette Eastmond in St Phillip in the trashbins. We as a people need to place the corrupt government of Owen Arthur and company away from our country’s affairs. Those of you who say that the Democratic Labour Party is inexperinced in managing government affairs. I ask you to cast your minds back to 1994 no one knew of Owen Arthur he was inexperinced and untested. Some of us, saw the need for change. I think the time has come for that change again where we need to remind politicians that they are servants of the people. Behaviour that is being exhibited by our current cabinet ministers is unaccept. The time for change is now.

  20. Banyan

Received some postcards from the BLP reps as well. I collected them, burnt the edges and mailed them back. It’s all about a DLP gov’ment now.

  21. frankology

I am ashame that the BFP would have used a PR plan trash can promotion for the opposition. When people throw away trash, especially soft material like paper, the paper is balled up, rip up and push in the garbage can. What I am seeing a photographic display, beautifully set to show a face of a candidate. The picture was well positioned for the PR stunt. Let’s be fair with our political behaviour people.

I am going to be the political police for this election and will deal with any irregularities regardless of political persuasion.

    BFP Comments

    Frankology,

Of course the photo was staged. Any person knows that. It is more of a political cartoon than serious reporting and we believe our readers are intelligent enough to know that.

As to our “political persuasion” in this election, it is well known that we are against the BLP and the DLP. We have said that there is little to choose between the two groups of piggies.

  22. White boy

I am all for change, but to take of dirty clothes to put back on dirty clothes don’t make sence. We as a nation need to make sure that who ever is at the helm needes to to have clear guide lines and accountability.

Has this government ever gone out and seeked to find out what the people of Barbados want for change and seeked how to go about any such changes? We need to have regular townhall meetings in all our different constituancies and make sure our leaders are doing what we want and not what helps them the people of the government. Bajans need to have a voice and demand to have it heard, all of us black, white, indian and all in between.

We also need to have more clear cut reporting on what is going before parliment and what disipliary measures are being taken when one steps out of order in the House. Yes most of this information is available if you have nothing to do on a day and you really want to go looking for it. We need to have Parliment broadcasted live on a channel dedicated to such activities. Maybe even a website where one could go and find the documents which are being presented????

  23. a foreigner attempts to influence the minds of the Barbadian voters

THIS COMMENT HAS BEEN REMOVED FOR RACIST CONTENT

Folks, there are legitimate ways to ask legitimate questions about how much foreign money and how many foreign election workers should be allowed in our election process.

Comments that folks of certain races should be ineligible to participate in the process is unworthy of Barbados, and especially so on the world stage. What did your parents teach you about race, commenter? You should be ashamed of yourself.

I’ve driven past this four times now since Saturday, and this morning spoke to a local resident who said a neighbour had put it there on Friday morning with the rest of his rubbish, so not a ‘staged’ photo at all, just someone dumping their garbage.

    FRANKOLOGY,

I too am surprised that the BFP as well has caught on to your ” NEUTRALITY ” crap….. a.k.a political police force !

Where were your ” NEUTRAL ” comments when the same BFP posted articles showing David Thompson being manipulated by strings being pulled by Leroy Parris ?

Where in the BFP response will you find any questionable statement of neutrality. What you did see, is BFP collaborating with my statements of the Dees and Bees as equals with the same ideology.

By the way Jerome, I see David and his able assistant Chris spoke about the NAB and Social Transformation giving out hampers due to the coming elections. This is over a decade that this Ministry was giving out hampers to the needy.

How come you did not comment about this issue or Kellman collecting his hampers for the needy in his constituency.

Life in this Barbados….realllll sweet !

Latest Poll results……the Lapdog Nationnews withhold the critical INFORMATION !

    ** swing against the BLP is now 7.9 % up from 5.5 % in OCTOBER…….HARDWOOD !

** % of the ELECTORATE now wanting CHANGE is 53 % up from 43 % in OCTOBER…..BLP in ability to be ACCOUNTABLE to voters !

And those archcriminals…..EZRA ALLEYNE & GEORGE BELLE talks about…….LEADERSHIP !

How can there be LEADERSHIP……without ACCOUNTABILITY ……..?

Good thing the Barbadian electorate…..are beginning to EXAMINE the DIFFERENCE !

    Bye…….GEORGE !

  30. Jerome Hinds

It was pathetic listening to George Belle on BRASSTACKS Sunday answering the PROBING questions being put to him by respected POLLSTER Peter Wickham !

None of George Belle’s BLP crooks came to his defence for what was clearly designed as a POLL of propaganda !

Why did George Belle allow the Nation news to have access to his poll without it being commisioned for them ” as he claim ” ?

Therefore, in that regard George Belle cannot now claim that the NATION news paper and not he is responsible for what was published.

It was a clear ploy to SENSATIONALISE public sentiment .

But I would state this…….as much as Owen Arthur seeks to publicly ridicule Peter Wickham, Peter Wickham sits on no organisation or committee affiliated to the BLP or DLP .

George Belle is the CHAIRMAN of the Pan African Commission which falls under the PRIME MINISTER OFFICE !

While I am at it, GEORGE BELLE next time you seek to advise OWEN ARTHUR about an inportant decision ( like dissolving Parliament ) always look around the room before you speak !

Beware of the FLY on the wall !

…. don’t think I have ever seen BFP tell you to shut up, ….. just suggest that you can get your own home too!!

The thing is that your comments and those of everyone else are what makes BFP the #44 blog.

    Keep on blogging!!

Sometimes when the politics makes boring reading over and over again I take a break but I am always back as I know there is always something topical to come from somebody.

I have appreciated the existence of BFP every day I come back.

Fact is Barbados needs the presence of this and other blogs to rattle complacent politicians’ cages and hopefully keep them on the straight and narrow.

There is a real service it supplies as well and that is breaking the unbreakable stories.

The mystery of the identities of Auntie Moses and Robert and Shona and Cliverton and George and others keeps the whole blogging experience exciting. Happy Christmas to all and thanks for another great year of blogging.

For a Nation which enjoys its fair share of gossip and innuendo it is just what the doctor ordered!!

I remember William D. promised us that Owen was to come on the BLP site and answer questions ages ago but didn’t deliver.

I also remember remarking that this BLP TV could bite somebody because it would make the record of the utterances of the politicians easily available and could haunt some, particularly those that don’t have a brain.

Seems like BLP TV was up hardly any time before it had to be censored for comments unbecoming of the leader.

All it takes is for the DLP or BLP to make a slip and the blogs provide a means for an inividual with a video camera at the right time to make the slip available for everyone to see.

People say this election campaign is going to be full of mudslinging. I am thinking it won’t be because the technology is there to put people on the record ….. and not one of the politicians savours that, Bee, Dee and probably Pee.

I am thinking (hoping) that they are going to actually think before they let loose with their mouths, and that will be a triumph of the blogs!!

Those that don’t have a brain will probably show themselves up and it will become apparent which ones really don’t have anything to offer on an individual level.

We may actually get a real good elecition campaign this time around and all because of a “Free Press” for the first time in Barbados!!

This time I think the duds will get exposed for all to see.

Next time, the constituency branches of the parties may actually pay some attention to the candidiate they choose …. and next time may not be long off!!

    Here’s hoping!!!

    John,

“We may actually get a real good elecition campaign this time around and all because of a “Free Press” for the first time in Barbados!!”

    Stop hitting de rum bottle.

  33. Hants

Why is UWI doing polls that can affect the outcome of an election in Barbados?

What motivates the University to commission a political poll and then give it to a Newspaper which then selectively publishes results and comments ?

  34. Hants

BFP….I am seeing your “new look” for the first time. I like the red and green Christmas theme.

    Nice.

    ****************

    BFP Comments

    Thanks, Hants…

This is our second year for the Christmas theme. Can’t believe we’re coming up to our second anniversary.

  35. Student

In 2003 election Richard Sealey tore pompous socialite Billie Miller to shreds in a television debate. The only person in Barbados who said Billie Miller won the debate was George Belle. He became irrelevant for me from that day. Any poll Belle conducts has to be viewed with suspicion. Belle a communist is an Owen Arthur lap dog. Like his dictator master he wants to specially ensure the Dems nor any other political party never hold the reins of office. He like Owen and Lynette will do whatever it takes to make our beloved country a one party BLP state.

  36. Observing

Amm Hants, one name in that entire article explained the poll. George Belle. One statement from the pollsters that killed the poll’s credibility completely for me was…..

“Indeed, of possible concern for the DLP is the fact that the party has more negative than positive ratings.”

Nowhere within this poll (the newspaper version) were there any indicators or questions that could be considered to represent a “negative”, hence, no person or party could have attracted more positive than negative ratings. One may have had less favourable ratings than the other, or less positive ratings, but neitehr of the two of these indicate a negative. Sigh. The propaganda has begun.

Oh, and could someone tell the BLP to come with issues instead of just trying to play the “leadership and David Thompson is no good” card? Their arrogance, deceit, lack of accountability and transparency have all but rendered this argument moot. Game on.

Here we have the ruling party throwing money at a foreigner to carry out the services that they require, this is a disgraceful act of the worst kind.
    …………………………………………………………………….
I am on your case buddy. Creativity do no come in colour, creed, religion or political persuasion. You have to realise that a political party have to be extremely careful who creates election promotions for them. That company must have professional ethics; and most of all, the workers must display professionalism, not get on the phone or send email or a copy of information to the opposition.
So please leave nationality and colour out of the elections.

    Frankology,

You argument above further chips away at your “ NEUTRAL “ mumbo – jumbo !

That further explains why you are so fascinated by the ABC project with DANOS & 3s KICKBACK scandals !

    ** No tendering process!
    ** No local companies!
** Keep the information the Barbadian public !
** The foreigners would not know with whom to contact !

FRANKOLOGY…..no wonder you stated what you stated in the HOA on 4th December 2007 !

  38. Jerome Hinds

The BLP has demonstrated without a doubt that their only claim to office is to give the impression of an apparent wedge between David Thompson and Dennis Kellman !

This clap trap argument that they continue to advance about LEADERSHIP is appalling .

Every general election held in the British COMMONWEALTH over the last 12 months WHERE THERE WAS CHANGE recorded……. the opposition leader TRAILED the incumbent prior and during the election campaign.

Sir John Compton TRAILED Kenny Anthony !

Hubert Ingram TRAILED Perry Christie !

Bruce Golding TRAILED Portia Simpson !

Kevin Rudd TRAILED John Howard !

This is the INFORMATION that George Belle need to analyse :

    ** swing against the BLP is now 7.9 % up from 5.5 % in OCTOBER 2007 …….HARDWOOD !

** % of the ELECTORATE now wanting CHANGE is 53 % up from 43 % in OCTOBER 2007 …..BLP inability to be ACCOUNTABLE to voters !

The CHASM of discontent with the BLP is growing !

POLLS do not VOTE…..but they give a fairly good representation at times of the possible outcome !

  39. De Orginal

I am usually quite a tolerant person of other people’s views but frankly I think Frankology should stay off the blog unless he is willing to debate his party’s position on Accountability, Transparency and Integrity. I do think that BFP has made its name and earned its popularity by being a constant advocate of the above three mentioned words in all spheres of public life (both public and private sector) in our fair country Barbados. The time has come now that the electorate have been given the opportunity to call the BLP to account for its stewardship over the last 13 yrs. I am sure a number of issues will emerge during this period. To Owen Arthur and his band of brigands I leave the words of the father of our nation The Right Excellent Errol Walton Barrow for them to ponder. “No one has a claim to political immortality; there is no political immortality under our constitution.” I interpret that to mean all politicians must one day be held accountable for their actions whilst in office. It would do several persons well to heed those words.

  40. Negrocrat

George Belle is Owen Arthur’s yardfowl. They are comrades from Mona and Georgeas been a Special Adviser to Owen for many years. He is paid handsomely out of the Public Purse through the Ministry of Finance.
So whenGB, The Communist pronounces on political affairs in Bdos, you habve to understand that he is singing for his supper. There is no way that he will be able to draw money from the treasury when the DLP wins. As a matter of fact his December 2007 paycheck will be his last one.
UWI should do another Poll especially after lying Owen Arthur cursed out Eerrol barrow and the DLp at the Alexandrs School on Sunday last and then tried to deny it. But thank God for technology and an alert DLP we have the original. Under mascoll, the DLP was asleep but under David Thompson, the party is wide awake and ready for Government, one that will once more make a significant positive difference to the lives of barbadians.

  41. Negrocrat

Why is the BLP focusing othe non-issue with Kellman and David Thompson?
Is it that they are trying to draw attentin away from the cussing and infighting that is going within the BLP?
Mia and Owen – not speaking
Prescod and Owen – not speaking with Prescod threatening to walk away about two months ago!
    Liz and Owen at war
The tall fellow from Ch. Ch (Pharmacist)and Owen not speaking
Hammie la bad mouthing Owen all over the place
Hamme and Prescod can’t turn their backs on one another ever since Hammie was replaced by Prescod at Social transformation. Hammie blames Prescod for bad talking him.
Rawle Eastmond and Owen not getting on – Rawle publicly stating that Owen does not like him.
Billie has not spoken to Mascoll since he went in the Cabinet.
Mia, Billie and Liz feeling that Mascoll has given them a hard time wit the Hardwood and want to see his back
Billie and Kerrie Symmonds don’t see eye to eye on anything. As a matter of fact, Billie does not give him anything to do.
Remember Kerrie Symmonds’ “one thousand pounds of blubber”. To whom did he refer with this statement? The B’s do forget easily, Kerry, although you were always one masquerading as a D.

  43. frankology

I am usually quite a tolerant person of other people’s views but frankly I think Frankology should stay off the blog unless he is willing to debate his party’s position on Accountability, Transparency and Integrity.
……………………………………………………………………………………………You You are surely a tolerant person, wonder why. Should I believe that it took you months to conceptualise a single statement just to deal with history. This is the year 2007 going on to 2008 and politics of the 60’s with Grantley Adams and the 60’s and 70’s along with a piece of the 80’s with Barrow can not solve the global problems in the year 2008. If you need freedom to deal with your issues, so be it. But people of ypur kin and run me from blogging,so my friend, deal with the issues.

Secondly, I am not a member of, or a spokesperson for the Barbados Labour Party. I am not Mascoll or Asscoll as stupidly stated by Jerome. I am dealing only with issues and will be kicking bums on both sides when propaganda and innuendos are displayed by Bees or Dees; and people who despise a writers because he do not sing in they choir.

  45. Rumplestilskin

And some of the people I see voting DLP this time, I will throw out a thought and say its going to be a landslide!

  46. I AM SEEING RED

When Managing Director of RED ADVERTISING Jevan Jutagir can be hired by the BLP to influence the outcome of a BARBADIAN ELECTION to blog on sites such as this one and on BFP under the guise of LEROY and DAVID with the most vile comments about any and all DLP candidates.

It is a sad day in the affairs of this island, is this man even a BARBADIAN?

When a political party can feel so threatened by the people’s power to hire the services of that clown from RED ADVERTISING to carry the torch for this starved blp party under the name of LEROY AND DAVID among many other names and to spend his day blogging in defence of the ruling party it is clearly stated that they are on a mission to negate the effect of the DLP supporters towards this blog.

Here we have the ruling party throwing money at a foreigner to carry out the services that they require, this is a disgraceful act of the worst kind.

It speaks volumes of the fear that this party has for the voting public of this nation, no wonder arthur was so keen not to have them contest another election on this island and rule from his DICTATORSHIP style and manner.

I would highly suggest calling or emailing him to find out how many other blp assigned names he has in use.

  47. Observing

“I am dealing only with issues and will be kicking bums on both sides when propaganda and innuendos are displayed by Bees or Dees”

And I say again for those who want to project a Kellman-Thompson rift. The BLP survived for 13 years with a Payne-Arthur (and more) canyon(s).

Back to UWI and George Bell and the POLL which it recently conducted.
UWI has proven not to be a neutral observer and commentator in issues relating to the BLP.
First let us start with Sir Hilary Beckles. He is in Owen Arthur’s and Mia Mottley’s pockets. I marvel at how he is able to straddle the two of them.
Does he forget his drunkard speech in 1994 and does he think that Owen will or has forgotten that?
He got his Knighthood for what? UWI is turning out hapless and helpless graduates who are finding it difficult to get a job.
He is Chairman of National Sports Council. Can Sr Hilary Tell the public what is his connection with Hardwood? It would be interesting to know of the deals that have been worked out between Sirilary, The NSc , the UWI and Mr. Murrell of Hardwood.
Almost all of the UWI Cave Hill Lecturers are in the pockets of the Govt. either heading some Board; a Member of some Commission; having a Consultancy to do something for owen Arthur; writing some Plan for the Govt. like the nonsensical 25 yr Development plan ; getting on the radio to give some favourable comment about t Govet and owen Arthur.
When did you last hear anyone from Cave Hill issuing a critical statement about the Govt. They cann otherwise their income will be cut.
That my friends is where we are today!

OWEN ARTHUR OWES HIS IMMENSE FORTUNE TO HIS FRIENDS
The Prime Minister of Barbados pretends that he is a saviour of the poor, yet he despises them with a passion unrivaled in modern Barbados politics. He has amassed such large money resources that it is impossible to trace all of it. His friends from every side of the racial spectrum has ensured that he will never want for any material resource ever again in his life, his wife’s life, his children’s life or any future generations of owen’s family life. He will pretend that he barely exists. We know better than that.

During the election. Arthur will do everything to ensure that his millions are not exposed. Many of his candidates are busy doing the same. To protect themselves they must ensure that there is no change of government in Barbados. The people of this country have been taken on a ride of deceit, corruption, arrogance, downright stealing by a government that cares really for its own pockets. Barbadians just need to look around at the extent to which Owen Arthur’s friends have become instant millionaires in this country.

These men behind Owen are scared that if he loses his pick, they too will lose their pick and they are terrified of that. They have all banded behind Owen Arthur to ensure that he has the monetary resources to fight the election so that they are in a position to continue to disadvantage Bajans. These fat cats must not continue to eat all that Barbados provides.

    Negrocrat,
A 25 year plan makes no sense at all! The Social economic and political climate is extremely dynamic and significant parts of the paln may become obsolete within two years.

This coming elections I will be giving David Thompson and his party a chance to grow this coub=ntry over the next several years. If he does not make good I will revert to the BLP and by that time I hop Mia or Liz is not around.

  53. Once a BEE

    Negrocrat,
I can confirm what you say as an insider. Rawle has said that he can’t wait to see a number of his felllow Ministers beaten at the poles. He was very concerned about the many times Owen called and cussed him at home and was particularly concerned when Owen had Sandra Husbands canvassing up until a few weeks prior to his nomination in St.James North.

I don’t know Hammie or Prescod very well but they should be ashamed of associating with Owen and Clyde. I know that Billie. Liz or Mia never supported Clyde joining the BLP. They have repeatedly told this to Owen. The communications have been somewhat strained between these top dogs and a number of party faithfuls have been trying thier best to keep up the appearances ( The Senator Linton, Ezra, Henderson).

I also remember remarking that this BLP TV could bite somebody because it would make the record of the utterances of the politicians easily available and could haunt some, particularly those that don’t have a brain.

    Adrian Hinds,
That was certainly hilarious. Rommel Marshall has always been way out of his league especially as Minister of Transport. I attended a number of meetings with him and he is really the most simple person one could ever meet. He is not very intelligent and often used to embarash senior civil servants at meetings. He can easily be influenced. He was however clever enough to get a kickback from the insurance company when he was in charge of the Transport Board. Ask the Chairman of the Board, The former GM as well as Peter Harris!

HERE COMES THE POLITICS OF NASTINESS BLP STYLE
    Jump to Comments
The Barbados Labour Party’s strategy will be the politics of nastiness. hey have already notified their candidates ti look for dirt on every DLP candidate and if they do not find any, hatch as much of it as they can. They can always operate on the borderline in order to get the undiscerning to buy into their strategy. Money has already been identified as the single largest determinant to the outcome of the election in January 2008. Working class neighbourhoods like Wotton, Lodge road, Parish Land, Ellerton, Deacons, Fairy Valley, Church Village among several others have already been identified to be the recipients of this money. It has been drawn to our attention that persons have in fact been receiving vouchers in places such as Deacons and other st. Michael communities. The youth are further identified as the focused group for them to manipulate with cash.

The Barbados Labour Party does not care how it wins. It intends to subvert the process by any means necessary. BARBADOS MUST PUT ON ITS SHIELD OF ARMOUR against this advancing evil. They are many in that party who are evil. Do not let them fool you now. They who must uphold the law are the chief ones who are breaking the law. Then do you wonder why our society is so mashed up.

SAY NO TO BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY CORRUPTION.

  59. Observing

WIV, I concur completely. Lust for maintaining power leads to desperation. Mudslinging is a given, as I said a few months back this will be the nastiest election ever seen. I hope to God that Barbadians are smart enough not to let this election be decided on how much money is given away. If by a slim chance the BLP wins based on that then our democracy, freedoms, morality and hard fought independence would have been lost. Merry Christmas EVeryone.

  60. John

Given the mess in Barbados, I feel most of the politicians, if they were honest (!!! none are), would be slightly fearful of the future and perhaps harbour the feeling of “let the other guy take the strain. I’ll hang back for this one”.

On the other hand, if the citizens of Barbados put down their heads and pull Barbados out of the mess created for them, it would be nice to be seen to have taken the responsibility of being an MP.

Guess it all dependes on how the politicians read the average Bajan and his/her propensity to work hard.

Some have invested millions to destroy the work ethic and common sense, no frills approach that once characterised our country.

Where has Farley been for the past 15 years?
Quite amusingly he now has so many plans to built so many houses, how come up to now he has not seen it fit to make houses for 15 years but suddenly he has thousands houses to be ready before elections.
What a load of nonsense but then again would we expect more from a non functioning pertson such as Farley is ?

  62. When I listened to Farley on the call in show today I wanted to get in my car and drive around this island and observe all the development sites that he referred to listening to him, it left me with the impression that every 200 yards we would have been seeing another piece of land with HARDWOOD HOUSES being erected but the reality of this is very much different to this, it is not the case, there is total inaction on the matter of delivering of homes for Barbadians but what we do have is a lot of fancy talk and lip service with no follow up action, so typical of Farley and his clan of crooks.

Meanwhile as the former minister of Housing and Lands what measures has he taken to remove the barrier across the road at COLONY CLUB??

    ZERO ZERO ZERO

Thats the former minister for you plenty hot air once again and no action.

  63. Observing

Did anyone notice or mention the number of bills (10) that were rushed through Parliament as supplements to the Order Paper on December 18th? And does anyone know if there is any impact of these bills on our day to day lives?

  64. TYRANT AT LARGE
In his first term as Prime Minister The Right Honourable Prime Minister Owen S. Arthur called a journalist carrying out his professional duties an “Indentured Servant”. This was followed by constant uncalled for attacks berating private citizens during speeches in the House of Assembly. He reserved these attacks for persons who shared opposing views or who were retired members or supporters of present or past DLP governments. The attack on Harold Hoyte who was called a Negrocrat for sharing his professional opinions remains etched in our minds. Recent attacks on Peter Wickham, Professor Dr. Don Marshall, journalist Chris Gollop among others, speak to the desperation of a leader who no longer serves but one who Rules. Private Citizens often give details of intimidatory telephones calls they receive from the Prime Minister, in which they are verbally abused and harassed in the filthiest language imaginable. These are all the preparation signs of a future dictator.

At his nomination on 16th December ’07 at the Alexandra School, he was ushered in to the school hall to the strains of the Gospel Song “You Raise Me Up”, a song that is reserved for and sung to God in praise. How could any ordinary man have such a song played in honour of him and to announce his arrival ? Is he and his BLP supporters now likening him to Almighty God ? Where is Rev Joseph Atherley’s voice of disapproval toward this disgraceful act ?

It gets even worse, he criticises our National Hero The Right Excellent Errol W Barrow over comments he alleged that Mr. Barrow made. How sad that someone who has been accorded the highest National Honour that can be bestowed on any of our citizens is now being criticised publicly by our Prime Minister. Does Mr. Arthur not realise that were it not for Mr. Barrow’s timely foresight, persons like him may not have benefited from an educational structure that laid the foundation for him to become a Prime Minister ?

Not satisfied, he threatens the core of our Democratic System of governance by arrogantly pronouncing, “ I am motivated in a special way by the determination never to see the DLP hold the reigns of office in this land ”. This appears a blatant attempt to use some method to manipulate our political system to erase any opposition to his ‘Ruling of Barbados’. This leaves no doubt, what his so called Politics of Inclusion was and is all about. In spite of all of these recent signs and the long trail of perceive dictatorial ambitions, those in the critical areas of the Church, Media, Educational Institutions, Social Groups, NGO’s etc. remain mute.

Let us hope that on the eve of a General Election their silence does not contribute to a situation we all live to regret. We owe thanks to those who still have a tongue to speak and who ensure that we preserve our democratic rights. Goliath once used terror to subdue his challengers as they were in fear and awe of him but David through divine inspiration conquered. Fear not Humble Citizens trust in God and you will conquer over Arrogant Self Proclaim King Arthur.

  65. When he opted to call the election over this Christmas period, he clearly gave up the Christ in Christmas part of the celebration he now considers himself to be the appointed Christ and will do what he wants to do and how he wants to do it, despite religion or values or peoples feelings.

This is something that we need to consider when we go to the polls this arrogance must cease and cease now, he cares nothing about the people he is put there to serve, he is about OWING ARTHUR not even about the blp it is about OWING ARTHUR and how it affects his pocket.

  66. Rumplestilskin

PM Arthur per todays advocate ”In fact, describing the DLP line-up as its poorest since Independence”

Ah. I see the BLP propaganda machine is still using the old defense of ‘fear’ that the DLP cannot govern?

What a joke. The DLP line up is FAR more impressive than the BLP line up, ALL of the DLP candidates merit selection in both qualifications and performance.

In fact, the DLP line up is MORE convincing than the BLP line up which consists of only Arthur and Mia, the rest, including Mascoll as witnessed by Arthur’s sudden sidelining of him before the election, can best be described as ‘also-rans’.

What has Farley done, to merit inclusion?

What has Liz Thompson done, besides ruin repeated projects in numerous ministries?

Dame Billie herself made a fool of herself praising the QEH and only two months later Jerome Walcott stated plans for a new hospital.

What have we heard from Hammie La in the past three years?

Goodness, and the PM EXPECTS us to accept his statement as gospel without analysis of the repestive candidates?

    A key point for you.

Whay did Arthur address candidates and focus on Opposition attack, rather than address ISSUES?

Because he KNOWS that if issues are addressed the cannot support an argument.

Instead he focuses on schoolyard bullying and insults.

Look at the DLP candidates for yourself, an impressive line up of candidates, no doubt.

If you want to compare candidates, the BLP candidates are in themselves the worst line up since Independence.

Previous candidate lineups had Sir Henry Forde, Bree St.John who was not that popular but clever and at least hard-working.

Tom Adams, although a bit of a charlatan, brilliant.

    Who do we have now?

    Arthur and Mia!

    That is IT!

So, Sir please refrain from insults that bear no support, focus on issues that we Barbadians need addressed.

Greenland, GEMS, Flyovers, QEH, St.Joseph Hospital (indeed healthcare in general), the school system deterioration), repeated overruns, need I go on?

AND a word of warning. I am not a member of any party but a common citizen.

After what I said above, that should give you an idea of what this election holds.

    Peace.

  67. Rumplestilskin

And just to clarify and make it clear as day, if a common citizen without bias holds these feelings and can see through the insults, your approach will not work and the election is a foregone conclusion.

Better pass the info to your election strategists who have helped in the past elections and a note to say that their old tactics are obsolete.

  68. Rumplestilskin

Arthur ”We are an administration that will not tire. I am in great shape and I am looking forward to this campaign and I intend to enjoy it. When you have done your very best, and I feel I have done my very best and under trying circumstances, …only angels can do better. I am cool and relaxed because I feel I have done my best I really have and that I have reserved my very best to go even better, he said. ”

Huh? Only angels can do better than repeated overruns? I do NOT think so.

Only angels can do better than present financial reporting of major projects and entities? I do not think so.

Only angels can ignore repeated calls for more resources and proper management at the QEH? I do not think so.

Only angels can do better than ignore repeated warnings on the inappropriate siting of the Greenland dump? I do not think so.

Only angels can do better than restrict the levels of debt that we now have? I do not think so.

Only angels can go ahead and allow our beach access to be slowly but surely eroded? I do not think so.

If that is the best that this administration can do, then we DO need a change.

    Peace.

  69. WHAT A CARING LEADER

Caring Leaders continuously talk with those who they lead. Caring leaders don’t forsake their people, throw them to the wolves and then come back to them almost a year later because they need these same people to help them with their political survival.

Where was Prime Minister Owen Arthur since his budget presentation of March 2007 ??? Where was his voice when we needed him most ?? When others were saying that something needed to and could be done about the high cost of living, where was he ???

    Where was his voice regarding:

The calls for Transparency and Accountability
The Government’s Provision and Ensuring of Affordable Land and Housing for Citizens
The QEH MESS and General problems in provision of Health Care
The Declining Behaviour and Attitudes in our School System
The Decline in the achievement of CXC certification among boys
The Expansion of the drug culture and the brazen public drug use seen among our youth
The Road Horrors experienced by our motorists
The Public Transport Problems and BAD ‘ON ROAD’ behaviour of Private PSV workers
The Serious Problems with Poverty that Dame Olga Spoke about on 19th Dec 2007
The Need for Vendors to be adequately accommodated and located
The Demise of the Small Used Car Businesses
The failings of CWC World Cup despite its’ high cost and many unfulfilled promises
    The Hardwood Issue
The High Costs Overruns of Government
The Allegations about Contract Builders like Veco (prison) and 3 S’s (ABC highway)

Suddenly as the election was drawing near, he tries to give a little ease here and there with some food items and the light bill costs, after saying that the DLP’s idea of selective price control could not work He now wants to talk with us at Town Hall Meetings.

MAYBE HE WAS TOO BUSY PUTTING TOGETHER HIS GRAND PLAN TO ENSURE HIS 16TH DEC 2007 PUBLICLY STATED DESIRE, “TO NEVER AGAIN SEE THE DLP HOLD THE REINS OF OFFICE IN THIS LAND”

WHAT A THREAT TO OUR DEMOCRACY !!! NO WONDER HE HARASSES AND CURSES THOSE WHO PUBLICLY OPPOSE HIM OR HIS GOVERNMENT.

The BLP poll, not only exposes them as failures but it also indicates how we, as a people, have waited patiently for this time.

A new dawn is breaking, and with that dawn’s awakening, rises the dreams of Barbadians. More than four decades ago, a Barbadian of great talent and endeavour, brought our beloved country to independence.

I will give him and his family, the courtesy his eminence deserves, by referring to him by name, that being the Rt. Hon Errol Walton Barrow, father of independence.

A name such as his, should be mentioned, because he taught us, that although a small island, we are not a small people.

At this moment, when a rebirth of our country is possible, when a chink of light seeps through the dark void, in which for too long we have recently inhabited, a new leader has come before us.

The time for change is upon us, and a decision has to be made, the decision will be about stewardship, proper governance, honesty, probity, integrity and a genuine love for the community for which parliamentarians will be elected to serve.

In assessing the governance of an administration at the end of term – in this instance three terms – one must ask what have they done; how have they done it, and were promises freely given, kept; were they prudent with resources; and were they accountable for their actions.

Do you recall the Chinese workers, who were not supposed to be in Barbados, and yet they were. No one was prepared to have the honesty, to step up to the plate and tell the general public what was going on. There was the arrogance of silence. Like children, we are expected to quickly forget, Barbadians are like that, they believe, but are we?

What about the cheque for $750.000.00 mentioned in the houses of Parliament. I make no allegation of any kind, I will only refer you to the incident as it happened in Parliament, you come to a conclusion.

The prison contract over runs, was the contract in US dollars or Barbados dollars, no one in a position of authority seemed to know.

Do we need a flyover, how will it be funded, is it too expensive, cost over runs, incompetent financial management, the experience of the selected contractor and his history in that field.

The Cricket World Cup, heaven and earth moved, money in prodigious amounts spent, but a “dark evening” was had by all. The gloom in which the final was played, symbolised the sorry debacle of management. I will not dwell on the humiliation of our police, I mention it only in passing, it pains me.

The beaches, our pride, and beloved by all, we always knew regardless of how poor we were, we could go to the beaches and frolic with our family and friends. Now the roads , tracks and little alleys to them are barred, rocks and man made outcrops obstruct our path – officials give acceptance by silence, inhibited often by knowing what actions certain people expect of them.

Large tracks of land are sold, indigenous people are “invisible,” the only consideration is how much the foreigner will pay. Barbadians therefore suffer exclusion by price, colour does not prevent you, price does. When you have to be super rich to buy a small piece of land, something is very wrong indeed. These lands might as well be in “Afghanistan” ordinary Barbadians will “never ever” be able to purchase them. The end result is, the general population is gradually being squeezed into a smaller area.

Some rich people seem able to flout the Law, the law as we know it, does not apply to them. The law is to be obeyed, only by the unrepresented poor, the “common man.” When the rich see no need to respect the law, the common people will ultimately do the same, and the result will be anarchy.

Fortunes are being made, and squirreled away. Two, three, or even a dozen very rich black men/women will not make Barbados a great nation. What will, is the opportunity for our sons and daughters to prosper, that prosperity will permeate through the wider society, from which will come enterprising, businessmen and leaders. The base of opportunity and wealth for the average black citizen must be spread.

We must think less of “the poor black man” culture and concentrate on the “undustrious black man/woman”. We must think of our society, and what is needed to give the majority population a good standard of living, and life opportunities. I repeat, a couple very rich black men, is not good enough.

Finally we must be “inclusive” never against white or those who think they are. We must be for citizens of “our country” regardless of shades of pigmentation. I know how difficult this is considering our past, but it is a must, there is no other way, if we are to move forward as a nation.

We have come to a fork in the road, thankfully we are free to make a choice. One way will take us back from whence we came. Or we can move forward and upward and reach for the sky. Future generations will thank us, if we change for a much improved Barbados, our country deserves better, it is time for a change, and that change can best be brought about by the “Democratic Labour Party” led by David Thompson. The BLP have proved it will not happen under them.

  72. Rumplestilskin

”feel I have done my best I really have and that I have reserved my very best to go even better, he said. ”

Either he has done his best or not. He could not have done his best but ‘reserved’ even better. The two are mutually exclusive.

If we take the first, then take him at his word and accept that his best has not been able to address major issues. If we accept that this is not his fault, then it just is, but we need a change to give someone else a chance.

If however, we accept the second premise, then why after 15 years in control is he still ‘reserving’ his very best?

Did the country not merit his best already, over 15 years?

Basically the statement when analysed is shown to be politico=speak for election purposes and that is all.

    Peace

  73. wait, what was the real scoop on the p.m.’s behaviour at the caricom summit called by mitchell of grenada?no where in the local press has this behaviour been reported on.
and how about the serious deletion of the infamous statement that the dems should never rule b/dos again from the blp website? why is the ruling party so bent on avoiding answering the questions posed in parliament, so intent that it would call elections to avoid the issue.
and is there truth in the rumour that a mole on the inside of the ruling party has been feeding info to the opposition and so the truth of that had to get shut down. just asking before i put my x.

  74. Observing

A quote from an article on the BLP blog

“Common sense dictates that people change a government when they recognise that it has lost direction or its relevance. You change an appliance if it is broken or not working well.”

By their own yardstick and my own common sense, it’s time for me to vote for a change.

  75. frankology

Do we need a flyover, how will it be funded, is it too expensive, cost over runs, incompetent financial management, the experience of the selected contractor and his history in that field.
    ………………………………………………………………………………….
I have been making constant submissions regarding this issue. I can freely answer these issues.
NO, we do not need flyovers
BOLT agreements are more expensive that the normal channel of lending. Yes, he lending agency is responsible for the upfront payment, but the onus will be on the borrower to repay such a loan for 25 years, notwithstanding the instability of interest rates and the dollar during the period. In the final analysis, the $360 million might turn out to be over $400 million. That makes it expensive.
Another area is the lender, once the contractor increase its cost, the lender will pay the contractor, but the Government will have to tell the public about ‘cost over-runs’ and the taxpayers will have to pay.

I also spoke constantly about the competence of the contractor whose company was incorporated in 2005, the same time as the awarding of the contract. The president Danos, who worked with Mabey & Johnson as a ‘Sales Executive’ and the company without any prior experience as a road builder or Flyover builder or installer. Finally, the bidding process was not adhered to the law of tendering over $100,000.00. In my view, leh we dun way we de flyover and deal with the synchronising of the traffic light system that we paid millions in equipment and is being under-utilised.

  76. LEADERSHIP
The true test of leadership comes during difficult times for the leader and his team.

In January 2006 the former DLP Opposition Leader Clyde Mascoll, the BLP’s most strident critic, in a move unprecedented in Caribbean Politics, crossed the floor to joint the bosom of Owen Arthurs’ Cabinet. Independent analysts stated that it had so devastated the DLP and left it in utter shambles that the party would take a very long time to ever become a political force to be reckoned with in Barbados.

In less than 23 months the DLP under the astute leadership of David Thompson has been transformed to so potent a Political Unit, that is now seen as a viable alternative to the BLP.

In this his second phase of Political Leadership, there in no doubt that David Thompson has displayed the substance that those ultimately rated as good leaders are made of.

  77. No wonder he talks about the foreign investors, up to recently he was stuffing his head up the behind on the likes of the Michael Paynter’s, Dereck Smith’s and the Tabor’s, Ron Joyce etal and that elite clan courting them to hope they can give him enough money to buy an election result.

No wonder these elite can get any and everything that they request of him so long as he gets paid money to the St .Peter Development funds for his and his wife’s use to keep her family out of prison instead of helping the people of this island, there is so much the millions that this group has donated could do for the betterment of the nation instead it is set aside as his and his wife’s slush fund.

Instead of wining and dining with this rich and famous clan he should be addressing the blockage of beach access at COLONY CLUB with their barrier, that these same ones that he is taking money from to tell them to stop breaking the laws and remove these blockages.

  78. Jammer's Viewpoint

In repsonse to the ‘picture in bin’ furore. The caption which accompanied it could be indicating that the canididate in question may heading for the electoral dust bin of history. It could also imply that his party may follow him.On the other hand , it could symbolise apathy among the electorate or an elector oppose to the candidate.

Furthermore it may not be all that significant, except to those who wish extend its significance by trying maximise its polictical importance.I must say it was a master stroke by Barbados Free Press irrespective of the motive. It is a very powerful image and it has generated much debate.

If the government’s present majority is anything to go by [not the withstanding political climate], the BLP should win the 2008 elections albeit with a reduce majority. However if porochial issues have a very strong impact, a result would favour the oppostion DLP. I am sure there are other factors that will affect the outcome as the Barbados electorate is diverse and politicallly intelligent.
