Who Is Behind These Controversial Barbados Companies?

3S (Barbados) SRL

Opera Interactive (Barbados) Limited

Hardwood Housing Factory Inc

Hotels and Resorts Ltd

Adrian Loveridge is formally researching the above companies with the Barbados Deputy Registrar of Companies. With no Freedom of Information laws on the books the government habitually misuses its power to hide even the most mundane information from the public.

Will the government allow Loveridge to access information about controversial companies where questions about conflicts of interest and corruption go unanswered?

Head over to Barbados Underground where the story continues.

Did anyone cheack to see if Adrian got out of there alive and safely ?
It would not surprise me if the search were to reveal nothing or that the files were not accessable to him, none of you have any idea what kind of regime we are confronting here Hitler would have been pround of them.
These people are in an aggitated state and are like rabid dogs and are on the attack did you hear the call in show today? I thought that the man was going to break down and start to cry in his begging for mercy for the blp, this the party that has rampaged and raped this country at every chance it has had, and he wants another 15 years what a sick joke on the population.

  2. Adrian Loveridge

First of us my thanks to the very helpful people at the CAIPO office.

In the interests of transparency my receipt # was 366569 .

    3S (Barbados), SRL

    only two directors listed

    Jonathan L. Danos
Lansdown Road Holland Park London W11 4PR

    Ian R Fields
    Friendship MD 20758 USA

Company listings in the USA show 3S Structural Steel Solutions Inc, as a company with 5 employees and an annual turnover of US$420,000.

The company registered in Barbados is a SRL (Society with restricted liabilities) and there is a fairly good description of what this means on http://www.escapeartist.com

Nothing else on the file indicates how a newly formed company with no previous experience in constructing flyovers or road widening actually got the job.

No contract with the Government seems to exist, simply a memorandum of understanding.
Someone will have to explain this, as I was under the impression that all Government work costing over BDS$100,000 must go out to tender.

    OPERA Interactive (Barbados) Ltd

In the words of Joanne Nugent the local representative for this company, when questioned, stated categorically ‘Opera Interactive (Barbados) Ltd is a private limited company with no relationship to any overseas company’.

The CAIPO lists the directors of this company as:

    Gary CORBETT
    Lynda BASKETT
of the same address in Wettenhall Cheshire CW7 4DL England

    and

    John A. PAYNE
    Paynes Bay House
    South Road
    Sandy Lane Estate
    Barbados

Mr Corbett is the CEO/Chairman of Opera Telecom, the company the recently received a record fine of the Sterling value of BDS$1 million for phone competition rigging.

Up until last night on CBC TV 8 the Barbados Lucky Numbers ‘ads’ were appearing again and the contact number for claiming the prize of 1 800 534 2276 still gets ‘We are sorry the number you have reached in not in service’

I contacted Claude Graham at CBC and he has promised to investigate the situation.

No word yet from Minister Eastmond, Office of Fair Trading or the Office of Public Counsel.

    Hardwood Housing Factory Inc.

    Listed Directors are:

    Alfred Walkes
    Douglas O. Skeete
    Avenel W. Hinkson-Forde
    Frank A. Murrell
    Hutson M. Drakes
    Anthony C. Hoyos

    Hotels and Resorts Ltd

I need more time with this one. The file is enormous.

However, a couple of things stood out.

Some if not all, of the Debentures and Loans are recorded in this file and I find it amazing that a member of the opposition or other interested parties have not researched the file and reported to the people.

Secondly, a hand written memo from the Office of The Prime Minister dated 1st october 1998 asked the Registrar of CAIPO, what was the status of Hotels and Resorts Ltd. Is it a private or Government owned company?

    Didn’t the Prime Minister know?

Especially as his friend David Shorey was a director and chairman and still is 9 years later and however many hundreds of millions of Dollars lost, later.

    More to follow.

The population that get their info from newspapers only
are idiot enough to suck it all in, and O$A knows that.
The system, as set up, works for him!

  4. bashy

Isn’t Adrian Loverbridge suposed to be a hotelier?
What makes him qualified as a detective?
What sort of sad character makes it his bussiness to mind everyone elses and defame the character of others?

    BFP Comments

Only a person who loved the BLP more than Barbados would ask such a warped question. Only a BLPer would consider accessing public information as “defaming” others.

What a tangled web you government folks have weaved around yourself. The panic and fear in the government is palpable.

  7. Wishing in Vain

Poor kids, the fact that Adrian is ready willing and prepared to expose you corruption annoys so much to wish for his death speaks volumes about the mind set of you lot of blp thugs, you would kill to keep a thief in office, that really says so much about you your party and your want for power that you will stop at nothing to maintain power, why is this the case?
Is it because you have so much corruption in your 3 terms that you have so much to conceal that you need to be in office?
You are a bunch of no good bastards that should be sent to prison for your stealing of our taxpayers monies.

  8. bashy

Looks like I will have to answer my own questions.
Adrian Loverbridge owns a small two star hotel.
As the mouth piece of another political party he sees fit to indulge in character assasination and inuendo of those who have done him no wrong but are of a different political persuasion .
What I don’t understand it why he is not back in his native land advising Mr Gordon Brown on the running of his country . ( the UK )

  9. Wishing in Vain

Bashy as a citizen of Barbados he is absolutely free to live and comment on things going on in the island unfortunately it conflicts with you and your parties wishes, consider this maybe if you and your party had kept honest and stayed on the straight and narrow path of truth and honesty and did not fall off into the depth of corruption he may have had nothing to comment on !!!

  10. Wishing in Vain

Bashy he can hardly be accused of character assasination and inuendo of Noeless Lynch because he has no character and nor does he leave you room for inuendo as he is blatanly clear a crook and has been responsible for paying Carnival US $ 20 million of which he has arrange his kickback, remember the 3 S Jamaica kickback deal well this is Lynch’s style kickback agreement!!!

  11. bashy

    WIV
Why is he clearly a crook?
    Because you say so?
It seems to me that your endless rantings are motivated by personal envy .
You mention kickbacks so often perhaps you wished in vain for one ?

  12. WOW

Loveridge a citizen??????… do some investigating and check again WIV there u are wrong he is keeping his options open for when … only time will tell

  13. Anthony Gunn

  14. Rumplestilskin

Looks like the election is getting nearer. Just a bit longer folks, bear up.

  15. Lady Anon

Romulus…that means, they know who YOU ARE.

  16. Kathy

    To Adrian Loveridge,
Thank you for your bravery, and for all the work you do to reveal the truth. Wherever you were born and whatever the colour of your skin, you obviously love Barbados, and you are willing to endanger yourself for her sake.

To those Barbadians who hide behind anonymity, and would strive to keep a corrupt government in power and the truth hidden from the people – Adrian Loveridge is 100 times the Barbadian you are.

  17. Pat

    Kathy, I’ll drink to that!

  18. cynty

The ‘Antony Gunns’ and the ‘Romulus’s’ on this blog really need to grow up ,your behaviour shows your immaturity. Do you REALLY think anyone is impressed or in any way believes your comments?
you’re becoming tiresome, leave this blog to the adults, its way past your bedtime.
Congrats to Adrian on all his hard work.

  19. Kathy

I don’t believe you are Rumplestilskin. But I should not have spoken so harshly about anonymity. It is necessary for those living under an oppressive government to remain anonymous to survive. Adrian is very brave to speak out with his own name.

However, Cable & Wireless probably knows who you are, whether you give your name or not.

  20. oh what a tangled web we weave. dont expect the local press to publish any of this. its enough to sink 2 cornwallises and more.thanks mr loveridge for exposing the scams by doing detailed investigation. when are the bajans going to wake up.never?
and to think your p.m is asking for 15 more yrs. to clean up the trail of dirt, yuh think?.come opposition get cracking. start talking about integrity in public office if not we think you’re part of the scam too.
blogs serve a useful purpose and show that the real news can get circulated without the mast head. time for action. the people need to rise up!

  21. Inkwell

The BLP in today’s column has issued a direct challenge to David Thompson, referring to Thompson’s Sunday Sun appearance.

Quote: “In this front page article, David Thompson insinuates that there is something corrupt between Government and Hardwood Housing Factory Inc., a company contracted to build low-income homes for Barbadians. [This is] without first providing any facts to support his wild assumption or offering a shred of evidence to justify his request that a forensic investigator of the standing of Bob Lindguist be brought in to investigate his – and only his – illusive hair-brained idea.

Once again the “believability factor” of Thompson is on the line. Does he have the information on the “sweetheart handouts” and “kickbacks” on the hardwood housing project in his possession as he said?””

The gauntlet has been thrown down and the accusation of a “believability factor” over past gaffes must sting Thompson.

Surely now he must bring his evidence of corruption before the public or be dismissed as a joker. It is high time something concrete is brought to support the corruption hype of the recent past.

Independent observers need evidence, not innuendo, which we have had in abundance.

  22. Wishing in Vain

The first reaction to his comments will be made clear very shortly as charges will be brought against the manager at the company in three cases of molestation.
So in short Mr Inkwell the charges are real and present and they will not go away on your wish for them to go away.
There is certain evidence that they have received funding to the tune of BDS $ 2 million and the equipment bought has been purchased in the name of a director of the company and not in the companies name as should have been done but then again we understand why these things are allowed to happen, just another part of the scam that this gov’t is.

  23. Inkwell

The DLP must have connections in Customs. Show us a copy of the bill of lading in the name of the director in whose name the equipment was imported, or a copy of the invoice if purchased locally.

But then you have another problem, you have to show that the purchase was funded by government. Use of government funds for the purchase of equipment in a individual’s name through other than an approved lending or development agency would constitute fraud, wouldn’t it? Show that and you have a case. Otherwise…

Many Barbadian businesses have received government funding under one of the several business development schemes available. What makes funding to this company different?

I don’t see Mascoll listed as a director of Hardwood housing, so who is the corrupt connection? Just some questions that an independent observer would ask.

  24. Discovery

Inkwell you must be Owing for real, you will sink with you ship named MV CORRUPTION skippered by Mr Owing See Thru Arthur.
Do you not get the message that you lot are hitting us hard and cannot take one more day of your shafting.

  25. Inkwell

People who have followed my posts on this blog will be satisfied that I am neither pro BLP or pro DLP. I am simply pro balance. My posts have been in support of the demand for integrity and accountability in government and I reject being labeled because I have also called for objectivity and have refused to jump blindly on the bandwagon of those who scream corruption and support their charge only by innuendo.

I too need an explanation of the $750,000 cheque.

I too need to know how come a company without any experience is awarded the contract, evidently without tender, for the highway project.

I too think that it is suspicious that the man charged with fraud in a similar project is in charge of ours.

I too want an explanation of the increases in cost of the highway project.

I too find it very coincidental that the prison contractors are also mired in corruption.

These and other concerns are cause for question, but suspicions do not constitute proof.

If the government chooses to ignore these legitimate concerns and remain silent in the face of the accusations, I will be left to draw my own conclusions.

But on the other hand, I am also very suspicious of the silence of the official opposition on these concerns. Why do they take the smallest of the issues, the housing company, to make a big front page splash over.

Where is the front page splash over the highway, over Veco, and most seriously, where is the front page splash over the recent use of an order in council to legalize the invasion of the public’s privacy by the tapping of telephones and interception of personal emails without a warrant.

I am concerned that after all, the pot can’t bring itself to call the kettle black.

While we are it and on the subject of Hardwood Holdings, I have a few riddles I would like to pose lets start, why is it that the Guyanese workers employed at this company are being paid more than their Barbadian counterparts?
Why has the Manager only been charged with abuse of two of the three women?
Why would he fire these same ones that he molested only to have them bring the union and Sir Leroy Trotman into the action to have them reinstated?
Was it Sir Leroy that first alerted the Commissioner of Police about this abuse of power and position within the company and was he only charged after the leader of the opposition applied pressure to the point that the force would have appeared to be failing in their duty had they continued to refuse to act?
What are the interconnecting relationships of Mark Shorey, Mariano Browne, Clyde Mascoll,Owing’s cheque for $ 750,000.00, Tony Hoyos and Hardwood holdings?
More to follow on this scene it is not nice either!!!
Why does a carpenter assume the role of Managing director in the absence of Clyde Mascoll is he a blue eyed boy of Mascoll?
Who owns the equipment that the gov’t provided the taxpayers funding for I am sure it is not vested in Hardwood Holdings!!
Is it true that Clyde Mascoll is the defacto Managing Director of Hardwood Holdings and is only cashing in on his allocation given to him by Owing for his crossing the floor?
How is it that this company can be granted this level of financing and in such haste without the assistance and coordination of those at a very high level within the gov’t structure?
Are some of these same directors of Hardwood Holding now advising Barbadians about shares and the deal with BS and T etc?
Why would this story have been cancelled from being aired on CBC with one telephone call from Mr Hoyos, who just so happens to sit on both boards that is the CBC board and Hardwood Holdings board?
Like everything else going on in Barbados at this time this smells of gross corruption and dishonest acts.
One other quiz for you who is the head of the Enterprise Growth Fund and what is their connection to Hardwood Holdings ???????

  27. Wishing in Vain

    http://egfl.bb/aboutus.htm
Start to put this picture together folks, Mariano Browne, was the Managing Director at the Bank from which Owing’s $ 750,000.00 cheque was written, Mark Shorey was the Chairman.
Mariano Browne has been charged and is before the courts for illegal behaviour in relation to his action while at this same bank.
However he has been given the post of Chairman of the Enterprise Growth Fund despite his pending court action for illegal activities.
Also to notice that a Anthony Hoyos also sits on this board of directors of the Enterprise Growth Fund Limited and just happens to sit on the board of the company Hardwood Holdings here we have a director sitting on the lending board seeing after these grants to his company the receiver of these said funds, does this not beg the question where are his morals actually were are any of their morals?

    Profile of Directors
    Name Position
    Mariano R. Browne Chairman

Reading this from Australia it sounds just like our Government all of them are corrupt.
Worse is however keep an eye on just how they plan to sell out the People to the United Nations Remember Politicians Worldwide are selling out their People to the UN thinking they will get a seat of power for themselves in a New World Government.

If you think things are Bad with Local Governments try to keep the Bastards Honest when at a World Level,Then you will have No Rights or likely in Truth any Future other than a Return to Slavery.

Never lose focus on the Big Picture with Local Idiots taking your attention away from what really matters
