Tourism Minister Lynch Said Airfare Pricing Would Fall For Crop-Over… (That’s Now, Mr. Lynch!)

‘… you should see prices falling between the next four to six weeks and particularly for Crop-Over,’

This was the prediction made by Minister of Tourism, Noel Lynch, on 24th June 2007 when responding to the drop in Intra Caribbean travelers due to higher airfares and carried in a Wendy Burke, Nation story! (The Nation News: Arrivals ‘Should Go Up’)

So with less than two weeks to go, have we yet seen any reduction?

Judge for yourself!

Below are the lowest bookable return fares on LIAT’s website for travel in one month (24th August) from Barbados with all fares quoted in US$.

Adrian when Noless Lynch says the airfares are going to be reduced and the CEO of the airline is saying the fares are where they are because that is where they need to be, based on my limited brain power and the fact that Lynch is a know compulsive liar I will be left with no choice but to believe what the CEO is saying because Lynch would not know the truth if he got slapped in the face with it.
Sadly when you install people in a position of trust and they loose that trust it is very hard to believe anything that they have to say or do.

A little like his grandstanding with the condo project at Dover in one breath he says that they need to research the impact these condo developments are having on the hotel plant in Barbados but yet before it is researched the idiot has gotten into bed with another scamp to allow them to build condos on what must be considered prime beachfront land that would be better served by a hotel complex.
I assume because he is incapable of generating people to build hotels he has to settle for anything and that anything is a condo project on prime beach front to be owned by the developers and their friends, great planning Lynch.

Would you please lay out for us all the players, what you know, what is rumoured and where folks might look for confirming facts?

  4. Wishing in Vain

No confirming facts at this time but an awful lot of smoke around and as the saying goes where there is smoke there is usually fire and as soon as it can be broken it will be, but there is some evidence of underhand dealings having taken place, will keep you posted as and when I get my London update.

  5. Amen

Now I lay me down to sleep
I give the Lord my soul to keep…

Soul? Lord I been praying to you
for 47 ½ years now and you never
answer my prayers. Since I was 4 years
I been praying and I remember the
first time I did really need your help.

When I drop the neighbor cat and him dead I run and pray in the middle of de day for my father not to find out. De only answer I get was a good cut ass wif a white wood tree branch. Tanks a lot!

I don’t remeber de rest of times as much but
today I got something to tell you.

Please mek Bille Miller my god mother.

De boys tell me bout the smoke and fire coming out of de Nation house and bout something more…

It seem dat Bille Miller got a god daughter who
live far and away. She does live in France and work for the Tourist board and get nuf money. I hear over $ 200,000 a year and does work ½ day a week. I hear she is also we honary consul in France.

De boys say dat some years ago this person get fire one day and de next day Billie Miller mek it clear to de Tourist Board dat she is to be rehire wif more money. Since den dose at Harbour Road does call she “long grass” as no one can cut dat long grass wifout getting primplers.

So Lord ef it ent too much trubel I want Bille to be my god mother too. Tell she I waiting…

Lynch will ALWAYS tell the CBC-TV cameramen
what he thinks the voting populace wants to hear.

and it looks good on TV News, at 7 o’ clock !

    Can’t y’all figure this OUT?

  7. Inkwell

    Can’t resist this one, peoples!

Two alligators were relaxing in the swamp talking.

The smaller one turned to the bigger one and said, “I can’t understand how you kin be so much bigger ‘n me. We’re the same age, and we was the same size as kids.
    I just don’t get it.”

“Well,” said the big ‘gator, “What you been eatin’, boy?”

“Politicians, same as you,” replied the small ‘gator.

“Hmm. Well, where do ya catch ’em?”

“Down de other side of the swamp
near the parkin’ lot by the capitol.”

“Same here. Hmm. How do you catch ’em?”

“Well, I crawls up into one of them BMW,s
and wait fer one to open the car door.
Then I jump out, grab ’em on the leg,
shake the shit out of ’em, and eat ’em!”

“Ah!” says the big alligator, “I think I see your problem. You ain’t gettin’ any real nourishment.

See, by the time you get done shakin’
the shit out of a Politician, there ain’t nothin’ left but an asshole and a briefcase!”

  8. Bajanboy

He did not mean this crop over.

  9. Troubled

Come on people…lets figure this one out….why the surprise, Bds government is a major share holder in the liat fiasco and higher airfare means more money in the pot to take/spend/go on holiday with..after all…what other option do we have to fly…solution: go to miami for less than antigua…

Whatever the situation whatever we want to think the reality is that the cost of acquiring such a property in this present market is out of the capabilities of anyone on an MP’s salary end of story.
Yet he manages to achieve this feat without any fear of being questioned or doubted, rumors reaching me also suggest that the wife is now hired by BNB maybe it is payback for some gov’t contract work for the bank.
Whatever the case there can be little doubt that there is a lot of steal in that house.

  11. Wishing in Vain

Yet another day and no cruise ship are in the port what an idiot we have as a minister of Tourism a complete liar and a jack a_s.
Where did those millions to Carnival Cruise Lines go ?? seems them must have found there way to you bank account.

  12. Adrian Loveridge

Well! SIX weeks are up and no airfare reductions.
Yet according to another article published in the Barbados Advocate today (Sunday 5th August 2007) ‘Lynch reports unusally high arrival figures for LIAT during Crop Over Season’.

According to Minister Lynch LIAT ‘seems to be now bursting at the seams’, adding, ‘I can tell you now it is almost impossible to get a seat now, coming from any regional territory into Barbados on LIAT or the new combined LIAT Star’.

    What does that actually mean?

I was able to go onto LIAT’s website site just a few minutes ago and easily book SIX seats into Barbados on the 7th August (2007) from Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Tobago and Trinidad.

  13. Wishing in Vain

What crap is the man talking I have just called LIAT to inquire about availabilty of seats from Grenada, St.Vincent and St.Lucia for next weekends travel and most days they have three or four flights with six seats open and available.
I must admit that it was a challenge getting someone to speak to at their reservation contact number but nevertheless after much trying it worked.
Is Noless Lynch making more of a fool of himself once again, with the airfares as high as they are does he really believe that people are flocking to fly to Barbados to see him ?
Wake up Lynch from your slumber, you and you alone will be the only person believing your lies not the rest of us we have heard it all before from you and understand the extent of your lying sickness.
Please we remember only too well the lies about CWC the 90,000 visitors, the 700 yachts, the 36 cruise ships, the Carnival Destiny Charter that you blew the US $ 15 million on, and another US $ 5 million to them to send more visitors to these shores, the airport scam of the operation of the airport shops all run by an Irish concern that you know about, the mega bucks that the airport is now going to cost us because of poor planning and building, to have to extend the depature lounge before the airport is even complete is really very poor planning indeed. To have built a new airport and not budget for air bridges only shows that no planning went into this sad effort of Lynch’s
Lord please get him out of the Ministry soon before he can rip us off and steal more from us the taxpayers of this land.

  14. ????

MM Lynch loudly announces that LIAT bursting at the seams. I doubt Lynch but I have no way of checking. What I know is that St. Lucia now receives more cruise passengers than Barbados according to CTO. First six months of 2007 St.Lucia received 320,387 passengers. Barbados received 306,951. St.Lucia with smaller tourist plant has never recorded more cruise or land based arrivals than Barbados. Under MM Lynch they have. One more example of MMLynch legacy. As Barbados is being left behind Lynch wastes US$15 of our money on Carnival Cruises and makes empty boasts about finest hour, 700 yachts, 90,000 final week cwc visitors, and liat bursting at seams. These alongside his wild idiotic statements too numerous to mention.

  15. Adrian Loveridge

I read the article and I wonder what became of the agreement with Carnival Corporation that was announced last October, which ‘guaranteed 400,000 cruise ship passengers per year for 3 years’ from Carnival 12 brands alone?

Interestingly, you may have also notice that cruise ship arival for both St. Vincent and St. Lucia were up over 52% for the first 5 months of this year.

Do you think St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Lucia also signed a subsidy agreement with Carnival Corporation or are they getting their passengers increases for nothing?

And LIAT ‘bursting at the seams’!

Just go onto their website and try and book a block of eight seats on flights into Barbados and you certainly will not have any problem from St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Grenada, Tobago or Trinidad.

  16. BK

Could the success of St. Lucia tourist product have something to do with Alan Chastenet , Minister of Tourism) being a hotelier and former Air Jamaica executive when compared to Noel Lynch who is coming from a background of Advertising Manager at CBC?

  17. “Blarney” Lynch came out boasting on CBC that LIAT is fully booked these days and making money. Implicit in this was that the high fares are not having an adverse effect, so need not be lowered.

He has lied so often one needs to verify that any statement of his is accurate.

Is LIAT only fully booked because there are fewer flights than before?

  18. Adrian Loveridge

    Fewer flights and fewer aircraft.
Minister Lynch referred to 16 operating aircraft.

Perhaps someone should check if its 16, 14 or 12?

And its OK to boast about full flights over a 4 or 5 day period.
What about when CropOver is finished.

Anyone can verify themselves on the status of exactly HOW full the flights are by logging onto to LIAT’s own website.

  19. FamilyB

Fare Reductions? Full bookings? I think it is time for Lienel Lynch’s medicine to be strengthened. Just last week a colleague of mine booked a flight to another EC island, for the princely sum of BDS$1000! There was an abundance of choice regarding departure options, considering that he was able to leave the island yesterday!.

  20. ????

should read >..Lynch wastes US$15 million of our money on Carnival Cruises and..

  21. Adrian Loveridge

It is now EIGHT weeks (24 June 2007) since Minister of Tourism, Noel Lynch promised that we would be able to purchase lower airfares with LIAT within four to six weeks.

Yet AGAIN it is broken promise.

Barbados/St.Kitts/Barbados for travel one month from now at cheapest fare options = US$304.25

Return flights from Philadelphia to Barbados, airport transfers, 7 nights accommodation at taxpayer subsidised GEMS Time Out at the Gap and daily breakfast = US$419

‘90,000’ long stay visitors for week of the CWC final.
    ‘75,000 cruise ship passengers’
    ‘700’ yachts

‘Guaranteed’ 1.2 million cruise passengers per year for three years from Carnival Corporation alone.
