Mr. Prime Minister – Why Are You ONLY NOW So Concerned About Conflicts Of Interest With Duty-Free Autos?

barbados-cricket_bmw.jpg

Arthur had made it clear that no one connected to Barbados Shipping and Trading (BS&T), the parent company of Warrens Motors, Members of Parliament, Government ministers or persons associated with the organisation of the cricket tournament should be sold these luxury cars under the relaxed duty concessions offered. … from The Nation News Rush On For CWC BMWs

Dear Mr. Prime Minister:

For the past 13 years, you and your Barbados government have handed out tax money, jobs, favours and perks to friends, family members and supporters without any regard for real or perceived conflicts of interest.

You have done this personally and as a government. Is there even one member of your Cabinet who can say that they have never used their position or influence to arrange a benefit for a friend or family member?

Friends and supporters of the government have driven duty-free, cheaply purchased, government-depreciated autos for years. What is the problem now, Mr. Prime Minister? Why did you now change your policy and prohibit Warrens Motors from selling duty-reduced CWC autos to members of the government and their families?

Insiders have long known how the system works…

The government buys or leases vehicles that are to be used for a few years in government service. Senior insiders are even allowed to select the type, features and colour of the vehicle that will be assigned to them. After a time of carefully driving a vehicle in government service while it depreciates in value, a magical process occurs that sees the vehicle transferred to a wife or cousin after it is purchased for it’s heavily “depreciated” value.

Why No Public Auctions To Dispose Of Government Autos Or Other Desirable Assets?

Mr. Prime Minister, there is never a public notice about the sale of government autos… and sure as anything no records are published or are even available to curious citizens. There are no rules about who sets the sale price or who ends up with the government vehicles. Sometimes your government makes a show of turning over groups of used government autos to dealers, but the phrase “that one is already sold” is applied to a good portion of the vehicles.

That is the way it has been under the Owen Arthur government, and under past DLP administrations as well.

That is how so many family members, friends and supporters of government end up driving “government used” vehicles.

That’s never been a secret. That’s just the way it is.

The difference now is that we can talk about this corruption in public without fear or retribution.

Why The Big Show About The Cricket World Cup BMWs?

Mr. Prime Minister, if it is somehow wrong or unethical for government members to obtain a duty-free CWC BMW now, how is this different from what has happened in the past? Haven’t you just admitted that it is unethical that many of your government’s friends and family members drive duty-free used government vehicles?

The only thing that has changed this time is the high profile and number of the the duty-free vehicles.

You and your political colleagues – including the opposition party – have until just this past year ignored integrity and conflict of interest issues because it suited your little group to continue to do as you please.

We the people of Barbados have had enough from those who abuse our trust. We will not be deterred by small side shows intended to apply a false veneer of integrity to a corrupt government operating freely within a corrupted system. If you want to come clean, Owen Arthur – have each of your Cabinet declare who in their family and close friends drives a former government vehicle.

Hear us well, Mr. Prime Minister. We the people of Barbados will hold you and your colleagues accountable for every penny you have unethically taken from us and given to friends and family.

Ownen the family man. Has anyone noticed sinced the boss man got married that his style has changed?
At least on paper. He is all about integrity and a lot of the good stuff. Is he for real??? After all these years of turning a blind eye to massive corruption he is now talking a roll. All the thieves are filthy rich so there is no need to pompaset at this time. But then again, it is evident that elections around the corner.
Another thing, what was tiefing Joey Harper doing on Brass Tacks today? Propaganda machinery in full swing. More to come. Much more. Keep your eyes open. It’s slime time.

Come on, Zulu! You don’t really buy that lifestyle change in Owing, do you? It’s a publicity stunt! Next thing we’ll be hearing that Granville baptized him and he’s a Born Again Christian. Not a thing wrong with that – if it’s the real McCoy. The Joey Harper exercise on Brass Tacks today? Another publicity stunt. I think the Bees went into a huddle and Owing said, “Dem pigs pun BFP like dey find we out. We gotta pull wool over their eyes real quick”. Yes, elections coming soon.

    LOL,

Is smoke screen. A family man can’t be all bad, so he and de boys mek a lil mistake in de numbers. Them was to count de people every time they came in and not subtract when they went out ie 9,000 or the warm up matches, and 9,000 each day for the other matches all add to about 90,000. Simple math. LOL

Careful people, Owing driving an election winning machine and that family man and lifestyle change is de oil for the machine.. Watch out.

    True Native,
Not buying that lifestyle change one bit. You need not worry. The Pope will have to baptise Owen. Even then , he can’t change. Too far gone.
Haven’t heard a thing from Atherley since world cup. He too gone into hiding. Only Lynch and Traitor Mascoll are left on the burning deck, it seems.

The base price should set and then sold at public auction. That way every single citizen would have an opportunity and not only those who are well connected or have some inside advantage.

    That would be transparent.

Reality Check “why come clean with just the BMW’s?” Just smoke and mirrors to give the appearance of transparency. Why did government have to give them any kind of “soft landing”? Yes, that was the euphimism for the duty reduction.

    ” Big ride

HOW MUCH is that doggie in the window?

The one with the waggly tail?

Those Patti Page lyrics have been going through the minds of many a Bajan following several sightings of a certain big-up behind the wheel of a Government vehicle with a little puppie by her side.

Onlookers reported that ordinarily they would not cast a second glance at such a scene – except this is the first time in four decades that they have seen a woman driving a vehicle bearing this particular number plate.

Then again, this woman created history when she became the first to become the second. ”

    Interesting……eh ?

Two months later the fuel pump died: BS&T Motors(whose service absolutely excels…grooaann) replaced it under warranty, but he still got a bill for Bds.$235 (labour?)

    Around that same time
I asked a friend,Dan, how his Beemer was running.

” Talk about corruption and dictatorship at the highest levels……?

Read the excerpts below and see how your PM & Senior MP’s attacked & abused the leader of the opposition in this country !

Is the Clyde Mascoll being referred to the same one the BLP now praising ?

    Shameful….awful…!

    Excerpted from: http://www.nationnews.com

” MAY 9, 2003 – Prime Minister Owen Arthur responding to statements by Clyde Mascoll that he had been promised a Cabinet position to join the BLP.

“What would I do with Mascoll in my Cabinet? I am serious! What would I do with Clyde Mascoll in my Cabinet?”

    MAY 19, 2003 – Arthur on Mascoll:

“[Mr. Mascoll] is a political stepney . . . that is the reality that everybody in Barbados is stating. There is no conviction in anything that Mr. Mascoll says. He has not spoken in a serious way to a vision for Barbados.”

JUNE 2, 2003 – Arthur reacting to the infelicities in the GEMS project raised by Mascoll.

“A lot of people’s reputations have been savaged. My own reputation has been savaged and now the facts have to be told. I will ensure that the how, the what, the when and the why are made public.”

NOVEMBER 28, 2003 – Arthur speaks on Mascoll’s stewardship of the DLP.

“This is not good. Poor. A poor-raky Opposition! Bad, Sir. They are . . . as if they are all on leave, and I am begging them, ‘Come back and stop drawing the taxpayers’ money under false pretences! Pull some weight in here. Bring the commission into Gems . . . invoke the PAC and let us deal with the NHC (National Housing Corporation), the UDC. Do some work, man! They are drawing taxpayers’ money under false pretences. They should be arrested as a group for loitering in Parliament.”

MARCH 14, 2005 – Arthur on Mascoll’s chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee.

“After sitting idle for two years, he [Mascoll] is now trying to appear busy to placate the angry voices and the hordes at George Street.”

JUNE 25, 1997 – Billie Miller on Mascoll.

“I will fix him good and proper. You don’t see he looks like Malik [the calypsonian] with teeth.”

December 10, 2004 – Rommell Marshall on Mascoll.

“… How can you [Mascoll] tell me that you want to be a leader of this country and you have those kinds of qualities? This is not that kind of country, Mr. Speaker, Sir. This is the country that when you’re talking about leadership, you have got to come clean.”

OCTOBER 25, 2002 – Mascoll attacks Arthur on his connection with close friend, GEMS boss, Rodney Wilkinson, and accountant David Shorey.

“How could you not know that your best friend [Rodney Wilkinson], who was in your ministry, who then turned around and got a job as chief executive officer of Gems that was under your portfolio, how could you not know of his elevation? . . . There are lots to be revealed. I am a researcher and I intend to research this to the bone.”

“. . . This is the same Shorey of GEMS fame, chairman of Hotel and Resorts Limited. The same Shorey who was consultant to Cable & Wireless at their failed rate hearing. The same Shorey that Government paid a quarter-million dollars for a cricket study for the BCA (Barbados Cricket Association)”

OCTOBER 25, 2002: Mascoll attacks Arthur on his financial stewardship.

“What I would like the Prime Minister to do is to identify where the money in Eastry House gone? Where the money in Dover Convention Centre gone? . . . I also want to know about the purchase of Ocean View Hotel.”

NOVEMBER 3, 2002 – Mascoll declaring war on Arthur.

“I said it is war and I mean war. Prime Minister Owen Arthur, you cannot intimidate me. You cannot intimidate me with your size nor your intellect. I have no problem with Arthur. I am not going down the road I followed the last time in St Michael North West. This is no quiet, simple approach. I have invested, along with the DLP, too much energy and time in politics.”

MARCH 26, 2003 – Mascoll on Arthur’s modus operandi of creating state-owned private companies.

“There is a strategy on the part of the Owen Arthur Administration – establish private companies that will not report to Parliament in any reliable time period, just like GEMS – two years later you are not sure what has happened over the last two fiscal periods. You have to guess about the losses at GEMS. You are going to have to guess about the Hilton.”

APRIL 27, 2003 – Mascoll on his intentions toward Arthur.

“The Prime Minister does not wish to have me in Parliament for obvious reasons. In fact, I look forward to having to deal with the Prime Minister in any debate in the foreseeable future. I am ready for him, today, tomorrow, next week. It does not matter.”

JUNE 1, 2003 – Mascoll sounding off on what he thinks about Arthur.

“We thought that Prime Minister Arthur had become almost God-like in the eyes of BLP supporters and therefore conducted himself in some respects like that. We went as far back as the Terry Ally issue when he was called an indentured servant; a more recent event in relation to the treatment of public sector workers; saying that the police are not special and therefore not deserving of the regrading; treatment of the head of the QEH (Queen Elizabeth Hospital); inspectors, nurses, all who protested were given a deal in terms of the might of the tongue of the Prime Minister.”

    JUNE 2, 2003 – Mascoll rating Arthur’s Cabinet.

“Unimpressive and weak. You have a situation in which someone came out of the sky and became Minister of Agriculture in Barbados. I’ve never heard of him, the people of Barbados don’t know who he is, but he is Minister of Agriculture.”

JANUARY 28, 2004 – Mascoll in his reply to Arthur’s Financial and Economic Policy Statement in the House of Assembly.

“Sir, as I prepared for this presentation and researched the Prime Minister’s statements and actions over the years, that sweet old Bajan refrain came to mind: ‘The higher the monkey climb, the more he show he tail’. The longer he has been in office, the more he has shown his true colours.”

FEBRUARY 12, 2004 – Mascoll on Arthur’s management of the economy and the Trinidad and Tobago/Barbados fishing dispute.

“Prime Minister Owen Arthur’s fiscal mismanagement has Barbados’ economy in grave peril. Now he is using a decade-old fishing dispute as a “red herring” to divert attention from the crisis.”

    JANUARY 2, 2005 – Mascoll on Arthur’s accountability.

“The truth is that for the last ten years, several policy errors were made, but the mistakes were masked by heavy borrowing, job creation in the public sector, and heavy taxation that permitted wastage without accountability . . . Metaphorically, it is akin to the old pear tree that has green leaves and pears in spite of its rotten trunk.”

FEBRUARY 6, 2005 – Mascoll on Arthur’s brand of politics.

“He (Arthur) is known for flying kites and determining the wind direction before making the final decision. . . . He really does practise the politics of pragmatism and adventure and in this regard he can be likened to Huckleberry Finn.”

SEPTEMBER 11, 2005 – Mascoll on Cabinet Minister Anthony Wood.

“The truth is the minister [Anthony Wood] has not lived up to expectations, especially with his theoretical background in economics, and it is time for the Prime Minister not only to reshuffle the Cabinet, but to ensure that the Minister of Energy and Public Utilities is the primary casualty. “

I just got off the phone chatting with a friend in St. Thomas. Poor fellow, he has been dealt a stunning blow – he has just found out that Owing and company are a bunch of thieves! This is a guy who has voted BLP all his life, starting off with Grantley. He sounded close to tears when he said, “These people make the great train robbers look like a bunch of boy scouts. One of them is a perpetual shoplifter.” I asked him, “THESE people? Aren’t they YOUR people?” He replied, “Never again as long as I live.”
My question is: who is the “perpetual shoplifter”?? Could someone please enlighten me?

I seem to remember one MP referring to another during a budget debate as being a shoplifter.

Anyone hearing Joey Harper would think that he is some morale authority. He has a very shady, dishonest and perverted past. He needs to remember the sort of activities he used to be engaged in and fashion his suggestions now that he has seen the light and appears more responsible whether that is by choice or age.

He Therefore makes pronouncements that has absolutely no impact on persons who knew him partciularly during the 1980s. He can be placed unfortunately in the same category as Ezra Alleyne.

Having said all that I believe that in some respects Joey means well but his past life and reputation prevents him from having a serious impact.

I guess the eighties were bad times for Owen, Shorey, Ezra and Joey. Some of them have more than made up for those bad times.

Barbadians are not stupid and will not change from a visionary Government (BLP) to one that is power hungry and without a vision (DLP).

They will not change for a Desperate Looking Party that cannot even choose a deputy, who deals with the party issues when Thompson is out of the Island!!??? What business – political calumny!

… guess our politicians aren’t paragons of virtue!!

The press needs to look really closely at how the various constituency branches of both parties end up with these characters.

Somebody must propose them and second them and then there have to be people who vote for them.

No wonder the branches can only muster a handful of people to support them when their selection comes.

The worthy members of the parties probably keep far from the mess of a constituency branch election …. and hide their eyes and cover their ears and mouths.

    It is a real pity!!

The press has a role to play in reporting exactly what went on at these constituency branch meetings.

The party members need to see firsthand what they are responsible for inflicting on the rest of us.

If their own party doesn’t come out to the branch meeting and support them it is a understandable some people choose not to vote.

Enough of the stupid school-yard mud-slinging! It makes you all seem ridiculous and juvenile – not to mention as bad as each other – and trivializes the very serious issue of political corruption.

The big-ups you’re bad-mouthing of either party won’t be the slightest bit hurt by childish insults and smears, only by cold, hard facts.

As you trade puerile insults, they’re laughing all the way to the bank. And that’s no laughing matter for the rest of us.

    BFP…

I suspect that rubbish posters like those you’ve banned don’t so much aim to drive readers away as hope to distract them from the real issues.

And from the evidence of this thread, I think they’re beginning to succeed.

More than ever these days, your site is the one place we can come for insight, analysis and truth. It’s also one of the few places where we can debate intelligently.

Since the last thing we need is more effluent muddying the waters, I applaud your banning of the mud-stirrers…

  64. Rumplestilskin

Political mud-slining is the desperate attempt to detract from the real issues, which I had mentioned a few days ago would increase due to the impending election.

My advice to readers is to avoid the ramblings of such posters and focus on the social and economic management issues presented.

My advice to those posting such drivel is to be careful, there are many skeletons that could be used in retaliation. Let us hope no one decides to follow that line. Contrary to what a poster noted in another thread most of us post according to national issues, which is justifiable and not related to personal attacks. Which is what makes such an accusation inappropriate at best. Most of us posters really have no desire to go in that direction.

    The issues.

  65. John

The attempt to derail discussion of serious matters continues by people who are apparently devotees of the two parties and prefer to engage in mudslinging.

The reality is that both parties are up to their eyeballs in mud, so neither party is qualified to sling mud at the other. It is a waste of time.

It is more as an act of desperation which is a good sign.

Obviously some people have alot to hide to diversions are thrown in order to keep the discussion zig zagging without getting to the end.

A poor candidate is a reflection of the people who put him/her there in the first place.

  66. Computer

I am getting concerned about the state of mind of Albert Brandford. Every one of his columns he writes about Clyde Mascoll. I find that frightfully strange. Ezra Alleyne and Clyde Griffith are the leading BLP yardfowl writers but they diversify their topics. Brandford features Mascoll whenever he produces a column. Anybody else find that strange behaviour for a so called senior political correspondent?

  67. Jerome Hinds

    Computer,

Albert Brandford contributions are increasingly demonstrating that they are the product of a demented mind.

In one breath he says Owen Arthur & the BLP need to adhere to Accountabilty and Transparency….in his diatribe of 2007 – 05 – 13 he says Arthur may have another 10 more years as PM !

Albert Brandford……now conveniently forgets his call for Accountabilty and Transparency !

Nobody stopped Albert Brandford from aspiring to professional success like David Thompson !

Corruption has so long been a norm in Barbadian politics that those embroiled in it was hoping to pass these BMWs pass us and onto their wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends and other acquaintances.

    Thank God fof BFP.

As a citizen of Barbados I am hurt and upset that the Government that we have elected has only seen fit in their tenure to abuse and misuse public funds and taxpayers money, whilst they live high on the hog – with their piggies at the trough mentality.

All these issues, like the continued corruption, the payoffs, the buyoffs, the greed CWC etc etc will be a deciding factor in the next election.

Good work, BFP, you got them blue vex! But, as usual, they have missed the point, which was that they resorted to gutter speech. The one that was called Yam P[i[e (or something like that) and ?? were never banned because they kept it decent.

  75. Thomas Moore

I having been watching with some interest how what I thought was a healthy discourse on these blogs, but sadly it has as expected sunk to a low, degrading and puerile level. I note the comment on Jerome Hinds who has indicated that Maria has been banned from B.F.P for certain comments made by her, what is interesting is that he fails to state that Maria was attacked by persons on the site indicating that she probably was employed at bush hill, also interesting to note that those “individuals” were not banned for the comments made against Maria. Jerome has not seen it fit to indicate why Stealth Bomber was also banned. Who you be so kind as to indicate why Jerome?

Many of the bloggers on your site say disparaging remarks about most of our current cabinet members and no action is taken against them. However you see if fit to ban Maria because of allegedly a comment she makes about herself? …Weak Jerome, just like the present stock of candidates on the slate of the Dems. As usual since you cannot refute the arguments presented you seek to attack the character and reputation of those who don’t share your views and when those persons whom you attack respond in a similar manner, you seek to silence them? Is that an indication as to how you will govern this country if given the opportunity?!! I hope to God that the right thinking people of the Country don’t ever do such a thing!

  76. Royalrumble

It is with great disappointment that I read of the ban placed of two of my party colleagues on the BFP. Maybe now others will understand my earlier warning that the BFP is in fact the DLP’s website funded by Clico and managed by Ronald Jones aka Lady Jerome Hinds, Hartley, Thompson aka Vortex or Mrs. Parris and others.

That they have banned Maria and the Bomber is no surprise to me because I know only to well that they can give but can not take, talk that is not prick, they take that willingly.

Very good observation Maria when you noted that Lady Jerome Hinds did not post any comments on the blog during the time the House was meeting, although she has been seen in past going on the blog while the House was sitting. I hope that the next she walks the stairs in her high heel shoes that she loses a heel and breaks her foot.

Lady of the Night Hinds you ask Maria if she would tell you where the PM got $750,000 in exchange for her admission back on BFP. But better yet if I promise you to keep it a secret the name of the little boy that your wife came home and found you with in bed doing you little business would admit Maria back?

Lady of the Night Hinds you said that you banned Maria because she would not stop selling her ware at Bush Hill but the truth of the matter is that you found the competition very rough and hence your anger because of the very intimate trade you have lost.

Your ban of Maria and the Bomber is an indication of what it would be under a DLP government. Note that under the BFP the stot-rags in the DLP are allowed to say whatever they please on the blog but when the same comments are returned by others they are banned. This is the DLP’s brand of press freedom and democracy. But it also says something else and that is that Barbadians must be careful what they say about the gays in our community. If you are behaving like this now and you are not in power then one must be afraid of what you would become if ever you were to lead this country. God help us all.

  77. Straight talk

RR I asked YOU as the PMs mouthpiece, where the $750,000 came from.
Tell us both stories if you wish, in the name of transparency, I’m sure Jerome is well able of defending his corner, as opposed to the gobsmacked Minister of Finance who has been notably silent whilst preparing his explanation.

  78. Zulu

RR is at his best when attacking people and not issues. To him, the issues are found in the gutter. Never once has he answered any question posed to him. His way of handling matters is simple. Always try to discredit the indivual and there won’t be any need to answer anything.
ANSWER THE QUESTIONS PUT TO YOU. What are you afraid of? That the truth may drop out by accident?

  79. Bajan George

Just my opinion, but what bothers me about RR is that he doesn’t appear to be an intellectually honest or trustworthy man. I’ve heard the same from many friends who worry that this reflects very badly on genuinely decent and progressive BLP members. His manner and style is backfiring.

  80. True Native

Bajan George, RR is masquerading under a veil of relative decency (at least on this blog) because BFP hit the spray button on the BOP can and cleaned up his partners, Maria and Stealth Bomber. I think he (or she?) still wallows in mud on other blogs.

I’ve been following the blogs for a couple of weeks now since hearing about them on Brass Tacks. Good to see BFP trying to clean up. I was about to stop. But I wanted to log an observation: After the lady that Owing attacked in parliament, Irene Sandiford-Garner posted a piece under her own name on the DLP blog, suddenly the Maria and Stealbomber began attacking her with some incredibly vicious lies, and they attacked the DLP females by extension. These are family women with children, women of the highest integrity whose names you have never heard bandied about on the streets in a negative light. I wonder if they know what they have let themselves in for. This country is led by some really crazed despots. I would wish more Barbadians log on and read these blogs. They are quite enlightening in terms of observing the personalities of the protagonists in the different political parties. Keep up the good work BFP. You can teach the daily newspapers a thing or two about investigative journalism and independence of thought. It is either right or wrong; not BLP or DLP, and I like that.

  85. Royalrumble

Ever since Thompson made the statement in the House concerning a cheque, supposedly made out to the Prime Minister the Dems have been trying to make a meal of it. Let me for the final time politely speak to this issue.

Bajan George you can’t talk to me about intellectual honesty and trustworthiness because you would not recognize them even if you collided with them.

The Dems started out with the figure of $75.000. then they took it to $750.000. Who you said again was intellectually dishonest? I have warned you Dems before to hold your views on the kite that Thompson is flying about this cheque. Do you all know of any cheques in his name for campaign funds? Hold On.

Thompson is known for putting his stink foot in his mouth all the time. Hold On. Every decent political leader of his party has at some time or another received cheques on behalf of his party. Sir Grantley did it. Barrow did it. Tom did it. St. John did it. Sandiford did it. An issue only arises when that money is not put to its intended use.

My position on this matter is quite clear. Whether it is $75.000. or $750.000. once it was put to its intended use I have no problem. To date I have not heard one member of the party complained that he or she did not get financial assistance from the party to help fund their campaign nor has any of the companies working on behalf of the party in the campaign complained of not getting paid. However, the same can not be said for the DLP in spite of the fact that Thompson received a whopping $1.5 million for campaign use.

Rice-Bowen, Steve Blackett and many others were heard to have complained bitterly that they did not get a crumb of support from the party to assist them with their campaign. Ask Freundel how much money he ever got from the DLP in any of the campaigns he contested. Worse of all there are documents which show how the nasty underhand scams of the DLP and its failure to pay its campaign debts almost led to the demise of one of this country’s black businesses.

Workers were sent home, utility services were disconnected, the landlord bolted up the doors and creditors threatened court action. A swift resolve had to be made. Thompson is in receipt of a letter from the business man, even when he was party leader begging for his money but the callousness and disrespect that he holds for black people was evident. During the last election did Mascoll receive any of the monies donated to the party for campaign purposes? NO NO NO NO NO. Not one red cent.

All of this was allowed to happen while party funds were being siphoned off to the Malaysian account. But if Barbadians want proof as to whom the real money hounds are in this country then they only have to revisit the article in the Nation Newspaper on May 20, 2004 under the caption, “Stuart: Serve the masses, not money”. That entire article is instructive reading for all Barbadians and I include all Dems.

Stuart was addressing a Seminar/Workshop of the DLP at the time. This is what he said. “He had been hearing disquieting noises on the compound by a small segment that it should try to attract corporate financing to compete with the BLP and win elections.

“It has even now come down to the issue of who should lead the organization. That you have to choose a leader who is acceptable to those who have the finances because we want the finances so that we can win an election”.

“If that is where this party is, we have to stop and do some serious introspection and get back on the course on which we started, which was a course that entailed our placing our faith in the wisdom of the masses of people of Barbados and framing programmes and policies for their advancement”.

If there is any doubt who the crooks and money hounds are in our society then Stuart has more than cleared it up. It leaves little to doubt why this new DLP can boast of a Hartley Henry and Neville Rowe as advisors to Thompson. Why it has among its list of candidates men who are known to have stolen money from their place of work. While at the same time retaining Phillip Greaves and Brandford Taitt, as elders – the men at the centre of the Housing scandal of the 1970s and the St. Joseph Hospital.

Stuart’s address was entitled, “Institutional Crisis in Barbados”. He, however, only managed to highlight the crises within the DLP. Was he saying something to Barbadians? Most Definitely.

RR – nice reply, thank you, but you still don’t get it. The problem is not partisan, and you’re being intellectually dishonest by trying to make it so.

The people want a public accounting of all campaign contributions and expenditures. THE PEOPLE want this. They want to know if public officials are becoming wealthy at their expense. They want to know if the friends of politicians are getting rich because of improper exploitation of public office.

The only way to know these things is to have transparency legislation that forces accountability and audit.

If the BLP and DLP continue to give this issue lip service it will mean they care only for themselves, and not about the welfare of all Barbadians.

Royalrumble/Sylvan Greendige is so lying and dishonest, its amazing. David Thompson was not the DLP leader in 2003 when that small, black businessman Kelvin Skeete worked for the DLP.

First of all, in his offer to the DLP, he stated in writing that in the 1999 election he worked for the BLP and was never paid and that is why he offered his office, polling services and telephone logs to the DLP instead. So much for Sylvan’s lies abot the BLP paying all of its bills.

Stupid Mascoll fell for the dishonest tactics of the young man… and the rest is history.

Royalrumble forgets that he is contracdicting his supper-provider and master Owen Arthur when he says Mascoll never got a cent in the last election.

There is a letter laid in the House and currently before the Director of Public Prosections who is in charge of criminal prosecutions from the same small, black businessman who RR says Thompson hates stating that Mascoll bought votes in St. Michael West with Mr. Laron Gibbs’ money and with the small black businessman’s complicity.

    Thank you for the note.

In the context of our discussions here on BFP, “public accounting” means full disclosure and accounting to the public of all contributions and transactions of public taxpayer funds, within a timely period, whether associated with a declared candidate, an elected official, or any governmental agency and related organizations that are stewards of public monies.

The Canadians have transparency legislation in place. It is a good example of how a government can respond to the wishes of the electorate, and thus increase its credibility internally, and within the international arena.

People abroad reading such garbage must wonder what type of folk Barbadians really are.

Let me say to the group who runs the BFP kudos to you for putting aside political differences to show that you have the qualities and empathy of doing and meaning what most civilized people would do and mean in a sad case like this

I also commend those who realize and have shown in this column sympathy and empathy for what the Arthur family is going through because we are ALL children of God and politics is a non issue when compared to what the Arthur family is dealing with. I SAY PLEASE SHOW RESPECT AND DECENCY FOR THE PRIME MINISTER HIS FAMILY AND BARBADOS

    Amen to that.

Why do you entertain royal rumble with his repeated doses of nonsense???
This man is a clown living in dream land.

Friends, we have removed all comments that we feel are inappropriate given the tragedy in the Arthur family.

We are also deferring any hard-hitting political articles against the Prime Minister for the balance of the week.

We expect that good people everywhere will join us in prayer for the Arthurs.

    Hi Jerome

    Here’s what I wrote to Samizdat….

    Comment by BFP Marcus

    Hello Samizdat

I am often late for dinner, but even if I have to work late my woman knows that I sleep nowhere else. She trusts that I will always come home and I do so every night – even if I’m late.

You’re not my woman, but I’ll ask you to trust me a little longer.

Yes, we had some family problems for a few weeks – and then someone did forward some other information to us that caused a delay. Our friends have been patient and we appreciate it. We will not let you down.

I noticed in another thread my name being mentioned as not coming here and offering my condollences to the Prime Minister and his wife and fmaily at the death of thier daughter. I would not use this medium to express and/or convey such. As for my friend Maria, she if she wanted to could not use this meduim as she has been banned !

Marcus your site may lack anything of substance for the next week or so then??
My thoughts are with the Arthur family in these troubled times but least we forget Owing is no saint, my prayers go out to his wife and daughter in particular and to him it is time to take stock.

    Marcus replies

    Hello WIV,

Surely you are not suggesting that the only topic of substance is the Prime Minister? We have pledged to not attack him personally for the next week, but as you can see with our ICC and campaign funding posts we are still hammering away at the issues that matter: fixing the corrupt lawless system.

    Cheers,

    Marcus

There is a level of basic decency to which we should all conform.

BFP a week is reasonable to leave the PM and his family to grieve.

My sympathy goes out to the PM and his family.

I remain a lifelong DLP supporter but a Bajan with consideration for others whether I oppose their policies or not.
