Haven’t Been Seen In Public In Weeks

Barbados authorities have launched an investigation into the disappearance of two Barbados citizens. The two men haven’t been seen in weeks and police refuse to speculate if their disappearances are related.

“All we know is that the Prime Minister and the Minister of Tourism disappeared from public view just about the time that the last batch of Cricket World Cup tourist statistics came out. We’re terribly worried because it’s not normal for these folks to stay away from photo opportunities at major public events.”

… Barbados Police spokesman.

There were reports that one of the men was seen wandering aimlessly near the cliffs at North Point, apparently upset and mumbling the phrase “ninety-thousand visitors for the week” over and over.

Authorities are urging citizens to report any sightings directly to the Missing Politician Hotline at Barbados Free Press – barbadosfreepress@yahoo.com

Your co-ordinates are out to sea, Adrian L, west of Barbados. On a boat, maybe?

Don’t you remember, every ship berthed in our waters is absolutely full – ‘75,000 cruise ship passengers’.

No! co-ordinates given are very much on land at about 705 ft above sea level.

Come to think about it, you just might be able to get a view of all those ships and the ‘90,000’ long stay visitors.

O$A was in the paper today saying that more money is going to be spent on a closing ceremony.

However, it is not the GOB’s money that will be spending, it concerns the LOC, … which has its own money!!

    SHOW IS ON

UP UNTIL THURSDAY, there was no certainty there would be “farewell celebrations” after the finals of the International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2007 and, if so, what form they would take.

Prime Minister Owen Arthur revealed this yesterday, in an interview with the SATURDAY SUN.

“The ICC kept changing the format,” Arthur said. “Up until yesterday [Thursday] it was subject to variation. At one stage it was not certain there would be a ceremony at all.”

The Prime Minister said the ceremony would be “a befitting conclusion” to the CWC, “very Caribbean, with the use of cultural icons”.

    Proper show

“I understand Gabby will make a presentation,” he continued. “It will be properly conceived, not a series of performances.”

Arthur denied that the Local Organising Committe (LOC) of the World Cup was seeking money from Government to fund the “farewell celebrations”.

“Resources have been identified already,” he said, noting that he had “not yet been given a budget”.

“The LOC has its own money. It is not something for the Ministry of Finance to finance.”

SATURDAY SUN investigations have revealed that a steel band of 300 members is scheduled to perform at the ceremony. About 100 of these members come from Trinidad and Tobago, while the others come from the other eight host nations of CWC. Costs for the band have been placed at a minimum of US$600 000.

The “mobilisation fee” for artistic director Peter Minshall from Trinidad is US$20 000. Minshall is bringing his team with him, including the chief choreographer. Also included in his team are his famous Carnival characters Tan Tan and Saga Boy and ten other puppets.

Chief corporate communications officer of the LOC, Francine Charles, said yesterday there would be 500 field performers, including 100 dancers from St Lucia and 300 youths forming the HIV/AIDS ribbon in the show, themed Cricket Nation: Celebration. There will also be a Bajan tuk orchestra.

Minshall and his team are scheduled to begin arriving this weekend. He has described the spectacle as “the personification of champagne cork popping”.

    Marcus2,

While you see the crowds do not for get the free tickets !

  15. BK

I saw Owen at cricket and the board listed the attendance at 22452.

  16. Maybe the Rt. Hon. OSA is in T&T wheeling and dealing away Bim? Maybe not.

  17. 301-9

Seems like he should have given away another 4,500 tickets to make it full.

  18. Jerome Hinds

    301-9,

They saving them for the final…..!

Remember, it was reported that 28,000 tickets were all out for today’s game !

I guess Lynch is busy finding a reason why only 22 + were there today !

Could it be as a result of the cancelled Air India flight that was due to go to India……?

  19. Jerome Hinds

    BFP,

What has become of Dave Allamby ?

Has his postings been censored ?

Does he still visit the site ?

He has suddenly drifted off the radar !

  20. Only Money!

Aww heck, what’s a few million for a shutting-down party?

Add up all the costs (US$600K band, etc)
and pretty soon we’ll be talking about Real Money!

Lookit, just now the champagne corks will pop when (not if) the HUGE offshore gasfield is located and tapped. That’ll be the end of our repayment worries: Nationa Debt repaid in full, etc.
    WHAT are y’all worrying about?
We are rich, just beyond your tiny imagination.

  23. fed up

the blp must be singing lara’s praises because they finally got the oval full without giving away tickets and missing in action owen suddenly turn up. with his family obviously. the nation just had to make sure to mention this and include a photo.

  24. John

… told you all Owen would be checking the crowd at Kensington and would make a beeline down there if the crowd were of the right size.

Also, it would have been crass for the PM not to be there for Lara’s last match.

Do you guys really take heed of what foolishness you are writing. sometime I wonder.
