India’s Population: 1 Billion. What Did You Think Would Happen To Cricket World Cup When India Left?

delhi-india-cricket.jpg

Things Change

I’ve passed through India many times in the last 20 years and as with everything, if we are exposed to something on a continual basis we seldom appreciate the changes taking place day by day. Return to a place after five years and you are amazed. Visit every other month and nothing seems out of place.

India: Poverty, crowds, cows, ancient places… or: computers, fashion, a new middle class and young people who will take down the caste system within my lifetime.

How I Love India

So much energy on so many levels. A marketer’s paradise. The world’s largest democracy. Blue, blue waters in the south. Rugged terrain to the north and ONE BILLION PEOPLE in between.

The Caribbean governments that bought into the dream of fast bucks gambled that India would make it much further at Cricket World Cup.

India didn’t.

It is always easy to gamble with other people’s money.

India’s population is well over 1 billion.
    More like 1.5 billion.

hello I checked with online and wikipedia etc. and they say 1.2 billion in 2006, so you are correct a billion is a little low. I wonder if they even know for sure what it is.

The bulk of this comment was removed because the writer turned it into a highly innuendo-laced piece speculating on whether or not certain Members of Parliament have sex with their own gender – and / or used a name that contains a sexual innuendo.

We don’t have the time or the inclination to go through each comment to edit out a word and phrase here and there, so our readers will have to police themselves or the entire comment will be removed… which is a shame because there are many good ideas that are being tossed aside over these sexual innuendos.

Although we haven’t really been on top of this issue or spoken on this issue before, we are now… because such comments are taking the focus off the stated objectives of this blog. Bajans will talk and gossip – and we let all sorts of things that we don’t personally like slide by in the comments because we don’t want to limit the flow of communication.

But this theme of highly sexual innuendo is changing the mood of the blog and detracting from our work.

    It will stop.

I have just got a call from a friend of mine who is high up in banking circles in Canada, that the Barbados Dollar is to be devalued by 20%, at this time they are putting all money transactions with Barbados on hold until 10 am this morning. As he said nothing may come of it, but they are worried that the spending in Barbados cannot be regrouped other than devaluation. Now I would hold off any any specualation until he calls me back later. But just in case you have a heads up

  7. Calling calling..

We have learned to take Gray’s forecasts with a pinch of salt.
In reality Hurricane Season 2005 was an absolute monster, going right into Jan.of 2006, and well into the Greek Alphabet, unheard of circumstances, both!

This was followed by Hurricane Season of 2006, which was the complete diametric opposite of HS’05
    (not that we were complaining).
Thanks for the warnings, but it very much turns out how it turns out, and there is no telling, really.
(given what HS’05 was like, Gray predicted a similar season for ’06, and was very wrong)

I do know though, that we continue to mess with the one atmosphere we have, only to wonder “WHY is this happening to us? – Why does God let things like Katrina happen?”
    We are so dense.

I see you have deleted my post again, I never in my post made any mention about about sex or anything related to that. I was talking about the Minister and his terrible handling of the CWC affair. It seems to me that other people are making posts using my name. Would like you to clarify

It was one that contained the forecast for the 2007 hurricane season

    Patrick P.,
don’t let this editing of “your” post worry you.
This happens from time to time on this forum.
There is nothing to stop me posting as you, and Vicky Versa(you remember her?)
There are ppl out there who seek to create discord among us, by doing nonsense, which is why some of us use a different name for every post,
since it really duzn’t matter who the poster is, just concentrate on the message (if it gets thru).

Relax, and don’t take it personally.
It wasn’t you: you are quite clearly not That Sort…nothing you EVER posted would give anyone that impression!!
and by the way, let us know if anything further comes of the rumoured 20%.

If you did use the term – please cease.

    Hi BFP George,

I hope none of this happen because I asked the question as to why they called Lynch that name?

If so I sorry, for I just didn’t get why people called him that. It might have been someone responding to that using PP name.

    Hi Michele

You are new around here so you don’t know the struggle we have had in the last few months with people trying to take over this blog with offensive comments.

Some people want to shut us down and to destroy our credibility. Part of their strategy was to start calling people names that have sexual innuendos so we have had to come down tough on this. To put this in perspective, on some days we were receiving over 1,000 spam emails and comments and had to wade through each one.

I hope that clarifies the situation for you, as we are pleased you have joined our little community of people who want to see some positive changes in how Barbados is governed. It is not about the parties, it is about the system is broke.

This will be my last post for awhile, as I think that they are people out there that want to use my statements for their own benefit. I have just got a call from my friend at the Bank and he says they have resumed dealing in Barbados dollars again, it seems that the question of devaluation has been solved by the Government, he is not sure but something about a loan gaurantee from a foreign government. However lets wait and see what happens, he said that it may take awile for the info to come out and for now he justs advises caution in dealing with the Barbados dollar. That is mainly for the Canadian export market

  20. Google.

    Michele,

    If you’d ‘Google’ the term (M…. M….)
you’ll find an interesting definition as it relates to the ‘overly-happy’ community.

I too was educated as to its true meaning in Certain Circles, just ten days ago!

At the expense of being victimized by the BLP and as a small business tourism services owner, I want to be the first on record calling for the Minister of Tourism, Mr Blarney Lynch, to resign (while he is ahead?)

  22. No - Name

    Jeffrey Hinds,
Don’t worry..you can bet that the Minister will be flexing his muscles as far as you are concerned. I got victimised for much less than your calling for Lynch’s resignation.

I know someone who Mia victimised and I also know at least two journalists who were called at home by Owen and cussed profusely!

All like now if they don’t know they asking who is this Jeffrey Hinds, they will get you one way or another. Only good thing is that they don’t have much time left so your suffering may only be for a short time.

  23. J. Payne

The sad thing is… This is why some sporting organisations feel compelled to “fix” or pre-arrange matches or competitions so that they can continuously deliver “just the right amount” of shock, suspense and drama over the course of their entire event.

Look out EC$, Look out Belize$, Clear de way Bermuda, and Bahamas Dollars, and watch yuhself TT dollar….. Jamaica dollar and Guyana dollar here we come…….

  25. Jupiter

    No Name

    Isn’t that a total disgrace?

That a prime minister can call up journalists and cuss them out,or make threats to the media houses that employ them,

Or,that a prime minister and his minions will seek out a person who disagrees with them or criticises them,to the point where anything they can use to destroy the person they use.

And harold hoyte can only talk about david ellis being out of place to ask noel lynch about his sudden wealth.

Yet all in the United Nations,in the UK or USA these BLP politicians go abroad bragging about barbados being a first worls country, and our freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

The fact that B’dos Free Press has to hide its identity less they get the sledge hammer coming down on them tells us everything.

So this is why readers ,persons come on the site refusing to give their names.

  26. No - Name

    Jupiter,
..and Harold knows this because one of the Journalist complained to him. Perhaps Harold spoke to Owen and this is why he was expelled from the choir! Of course Harold seems comfortable watching the choir sing especially now he is retired!
