Henderson Clarke Still Teaching At 72

Better than retirement. More enjoyable than being on the beach. That’s how Henderson Clarke describes his job. And he should know, because as a 72-year-old West Indian man, brought up in Barbados, he could opt for retirement and life by the sea. Tomorrow.

Instead, he prefers a senior management position in a large London comprehensive. Mr Clarke is head of ethnic minority achievement at the Cardinal Wiseman Roman Catholic school in Ealing where he is very much the big daddy: the father of the school, the wise elder statesman…

I think this poor man has no life outside of work. Why would anyone who could retire and live comfortably on a pension, travel, write, paint or do whatever or simply do nothing, want to work until and probably past 70? Cheupse

Why I am not yet 60 and have been retired 3 years. Only wish I had done it earlier, but had my son to put through university.

Could never understand how some people could work two jobs either. Or those with a day job, a night job and a weekend job.

I dont know how it is in England etc. But in Barbados it is called survival. I have two jobs and right about now I am looking for a third.

The dollars in B’dos just doan run. If u check most people in B’dos have two/three jobs. Some legal and some might be illegal.

CANNOT SURVIVE IN B’DOS WITHOUT IT.

You are serious aren’t you. My goodness. But you can afford computer and internet service, so things cant be that bad. You should meet needs first and foremost and forget about “wants”. In other words, dont try to keep up with the neighbours, friends nor family. Keep some leisure time for yourself and if you have a family make sure you spend quality time with them. Life is too short. Stress is a killer. Heart attacks are prevalent in Barbados.
I understand that *********** who died recently was under considerable stress because the wife’s name was want, want, want, want…. So the poor fool held down a full time job, plus a chicken farm to meet her needs. Now he is 6 feet under. She will continue to spend big to compete with her friends. That is no life.

That’s right! Leave the personal venom for the BLP only!
