Barbados Photos & Memories

Our anonymous blogging friend from Brooklyn, New York runs Barbados In Focus blog and has filled it with photos and memories of his childhood in Barbados.

Shona says he is a master of composition and depth of focus. I don’t know enough about photography to offer an opinion except to say that this man is an artist – both with camera and words. We’ve put up a permanent sidebar link, and I hope Barbados In Focus will be with us for many years.

Seeing this old gentleman riding an old time bicycle just brings back memories of the days where my bicycle was my dearest friend. I rode my bike to secondary school through my first 3 years. Crazily enough I even rode home for lunch.

But most of my riding would be on evenings, especially weekends. We (the Garden Land boys) would ride to the country and break sugarcane. We used to go tear up the swamp tracks. Now part of that large area is now the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary.

It can’t be a bad thing when your business is listed on the same page with names like Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Carol Bayer Sager, and Burt Bacharach. And if it is a Barbados business that we’re talking about – well, that’s newsworthy on this island!

A week at Barbados vacation villa Becky’s By The Sea is one of the prizes featured at the Black AIDS Institute sixth annual Heroes in the Struggle awards presentation, to take place on Thursday, November 16, 2006, 6:00 PM., at the Directors Guild of America.

We don’t know how business owner Davette Reid ended up garnering this kind of publicity for Becky’s By The Sea, but maybe the folks at the Barbados Tourism Authority might want to give her a call for a little advice.
