Barbados Horseshoe Lobster Identified

A few weeks ago, we announced that we were going diving for what Barbados south-coast locals call “horseshoe lobster”. Our article Barbados South Coast Horseshoe Lobster produced some comments and email about how tasty this little fellow is, but no one was able to properly identify the lobster.

Now, we may have identified our favourite seafood as the “Ridged Slipper Lobster” or “Scyllarides nodifer“.

All the literature we have seen says that Ridged Slipper Lobsters are not found as far south as Barbados, but I guess these tasty treats haven’t been reading the scientific journals lately.

  1. Hmm is anyone else encountering problems with the pictures on this
blog loading? I’m trying to find out if its a problem on my end
or if it’s the blog. Any feed-back would be greatly appreciated.
