Hi folks

This page links to major articles that we originally thought were too large for regular posting – or in the case of the listing of political parties and candidates, we just wanted to keep the page separate. We might change this policy, but for now, here are some articles not found elsewhere…

  • Is the pic in you banner of BARBADOS.

  • I can hardly believe that a big highly educated man like William Duguid can be so petty. Do you really care about the average Barbadian?

You seem to put the interest of the BLP ahead of anything else and it is quite sickening!

  • Duguid’s comment may be petty, but it is poignant. Using a stock photo of coastline in the Indian Ocean, instead of one of our glorious vistas – is inconsistent with BFP’s patriotic thrust.

  • Wry Mongoose – What is a patriot but an impassioned man driven by false nationalistic pride? I would rather BFP continue on its purposeful and effusive trek towards open expression than become a forum of patriotic musings (socio-political, rhetorical filth).

Note: Duguid is a product of his associations. He that routinely consorts with fools can never be the purveyor of wisdom.

Olokun…according to Ambrose Bierce, author of “The Devil’s Dictionary”, a patriot is “One to whom the interests of a part seem superior to those of the whole. The dupe of statesmen and the tool of conquerors.” Sounds like Willie D, don’t it…

  • BFP

I didn’t know where to post this so I chose this heading, since I was looking for an article under the observer newspaper in jamaica under the heading News and Media.

Just a suggestion but I think some topics are not properly categorized, and too many things are posted under Politics and Corruption.

BFP have a lot at the Gleaner under the regional newspapers since it has been stuck on February 2006.However to get the current versionyou have to go through starbrok news listing.

    Can this be corrected? Thanks

  • There is a publication based out of Miami called Offshore Alert and KYC News (Know your client). This publication plays an important role for offshore financial professionals who read it to keep track of financial scammers and corrupt government officials. Recently the electronic magazine voted its annual awards to the worst offenders of 2006 and Barbados’ own Director of Insurance, Carlos Belgrave, was the winner of a category. He has awarded insurance licenses to several individuals who have long criminal records and many shady dealings in the past, but his award comes from not doing anything about it since he ineptly granted the licenses. The articles are available to subscribers (most banks and offshore financial firms) and even though a copy was sent to Roy Morris of the Nation, no mention of his incompetence has ever been brought to light. Including this web blog site on political corruption and inefficiencies.
    No one really cares???

  • BFP- If what Marvin says is true, that our Director of Insurance, Carlos Belgrave, awarded insurance licenses to several individuals with long criminal records in 2006, don’t you think that is worth raising a stink?

Does Sen Lynette’s ministry not include 1) Consumer Protection 2) Standards- setting and enforcing 3) Business Development?

One would think that at least one of these departments would take an interest in insurance companies run by reputed crooks being granted licenses to operate in the insurance business in Bim, even if the Director of Insurance does not have the technical knowledge to get credit reports and financial histories on those who apply to him to determine their bona fides.

Is this not worth a separate Topic, to call attention to the public being exposed to potential risk, and a senior Civil Servant not carrying out his duties competently? Can the names of those with criminal records who were granted licenses be obtained so that we can check if they have established companies here to entrap us?

  • This island should be ashamed when it comes to Bim . –

  • I write this with so much anger, pain and truely lost for words.
What I would love to says is really so sad what our Barbados has become, I’ve heard it not so my times on the call-in programme, where moderator David Ellis was also worried about it.
I’m talking about my belove beach area from childhood days BATTS ROCK.

Yesterday I finally had the courage to venture down there, I was horrified to see what has taken place at BATTS ROCK. I would like all of you to please go and see BATTS ROCK for yourself. Progress is good but when a country lets money destroy our landscape just for the sake of business and ministries responsible sit idly by and let this happen

  • Wishing in Vain

    Baje,
I can sense your hurt and your passion like you I am dismayed that they can come to our island and rape it as these are doing and then restrict vast areas of the beach access to us the natives. sick and very sad.

  • Recently I visited the Barbados Museum and it appears the artifacts there have been – politically sanitised with regard to the slavery period. I recall from my school days on a visit there, the artefacts – with regard to the same period being different to what are now on display.
On this matter I seek not to be contentious, I am only interested from an academic point of view.

As it is History we are dealing with, it is important that a true representation from the material available is displayed. I am also aware that objects in Museums are updated and changed, the aforementioned should not have impacted in this case.

Perhaps I am wrong, but those who have administered, or are administering the Museum would care to comment. It would be much appreciated.

  • When would we bajan wake up and stop this madness. LEAVE BATTS ROCKS. I can’t believe that this government would allow this to happen in Barbados

  • Wishing in Vain

Mr Gill is presently on the radio trying to defend this rape of the area, bear in mind that he is being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to him for his work and his support.

  • Now that the power has been restored to us, I hope and pray everyone in Barbados is safe, unhurt and has no damage from the earthquake we have just experienced.
I am disappointed in the CBC television station not interupting the scheduled programming and explaining to the public what to do, what happened, etc. The radio is reporting and recieving a multitude of phone calls. That is all fine and good. For most people, earthquakes are non existant. Not anymore! So we all need to be prepared for not only hurricanes, but now earthquakes. When there is no power there is no communication to guide us as to what to do. So CBC television could certainly do a much better job regarding communicating to people once power has been restored…even if they run a printed report along the bottom of the tv screen to at least do that much! Shame on you CBC!!!

    Emerging Latin American Dictatorships.

Has Latin America decided like Africa, that democracy does not work now ? Look at the three emerging chicklet- dictators of Latin America, Chavez, Morales and Correa. Chavez is now busy courting Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, another dictator. Watch how the vultures gather, birds of a common flavour !
Start watching the Arms deals into Latin America from Russia and China. Listen to the Anti-American chatter, carefully. Don’t ever believe should America weaken as the dictators’ hope, that West Indian lives will not suffer worse for it. Soon, too soon, would we see the swift-moving shadows of the Vultures circling high over our heads. They may even hatch here again, in the West Indies. The dearth of democracy hatches such vultures in its discontinuous vacuum.
