“Campaign Donation” deposited to Prime Minister Owen Arthur’s personal bank account. Barbados political elites break laws without fear.
Both major Bajan parties lack credibility
by BFP reader Look
Arthur and his BLP cronies seem to like spitting upon DLP and often does though it backfires. Arthur and the BLP in 2008 were forced out of office but left behind a lot of things that just can’t hide. Stuart and the DLP cannot hide the recent S&P downgrade or ClICO. Barbados before the 2008 general election was downgraded several times. Arthur and the BLP cannot hide this.
The Al Barrack matter originated during the days of Arthur and the BLP. They know this, can’t hide it, that or the $75,000 campaign cheque that Arthur invited into his personal banking account. The Mottley family linked to Mia Mottley purchased the Arch Cot land that couldn’t be built on and got planning permission within six months. The previous owner was denied planning permission. The Mottley family was not. The Codrington family totaling five all died at Arch Cot, Britton Hill; their home fell into a cave beneath it. Arthur and the BLP cannot hide this. Those deaths at Arch Cot, Britton Hill could have been avoided. No building on that land should have been allowed.
Al Barrack was awarded a government contract without tender. Barrack built the complex at Warrens in St. Michaels though he had never built a project that size. The BLP exposed to Bajans their incompetence and cannot hide it. VECO, a corrupt Corporation homebased in Alaska was awarded a government contract via Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley and Dale Marshall. The VECO Corporation built the prison at Dodds in St. Philip without tender but had no record of building prisons. Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley and Dale Marshall exposed to Bajans their incompetence and cannot hide it.
Arthur, believe it or not said “REDjet Airlines might still be flying if the Barbados Government had honoured its financial commitment to the collapsed airline”. Okay, but the Al Barrack matter, if the government had fixed the Al Barrack problem born during the days of Arthur and the BLP, it would not have ballooned quite so large. Bajans owe REDjet Airlines nothing, absolutely nothing. They, however, owe Al Barrack millions due to incompetence exposed by Arthur and the BLP.
The BLP responds to all of the above saying the party has a enviable record of keeping promises. Whatever happened in the past cannot be changed. . . . The DLP government is guilty of greed and incompetence. Truth is that both parties, BLP and DLP, exposed to Bajans their incompetence, greed and corruption.

If Thompy was alive he could not survive his role in Clico.
BSD….Maybe when Thompy realized what he inherited is what killed him.
BFP …A lot more than the above happened in 14 years
Can’t argue with that
The Facts are the Facts. Here here!!!
David Thompson committed one of the worst breaches of professional conduct possible. He abused his position as a lawyer for Clico to make personal profit for himself. He abused his legal profession by issuing at least one false invoice for fees that did not exist. He probably failed to declare those “fees” in his personal tax return for that period or pay the necessary VAT. His will, though probated cannot be accessed by the public as a public document like other wills, something like Obama sealing his personal stuff that may be embarrassing if revealed. Thompson abused his position as PM and protector of the people by declaring CLICO to be safe when he above all others knew that statement to be false. The BLP has its own skeletons but the damage done by Clico to so many people is way beyond those issues.
When the BLP is in power the DLP supporters will look for issues to create doubt in the minds of the people, especially those who cannot read or write or who have no sense of reality. When the DLP is in power, the BLP supporters will look for issues to create doubt in the minds of the people as well. At the end of the day the loyal supporters of both parties will never jump ship.
What ever clandestine operations there may have been by both parties, let us work together as a people and see how best we can resolve them or else, our international neighbours will continue to capitalise on our divisions and while we are busy fighting inhouse, they will be taking over our blessed and beautiful island that causes many of them begrudge us! Don’t you see how many of them are becoming reidents in our island and progressing way beyond those of us who can only gather enough money to purchase two weeks of food and pay two bills in any one month?
Stop the party-fighting and assist in looking for solutions beyond that of voting out one party and voting in the other.
Agree with the 07/26/2012 posted submitted by George. A lot more happened in 14 years.
The recent S&P downgrade is MAJOR NEWS due to Arthur and the BLP. Arthur and the S&P surely have not forgotten that Richard Francis, an S&P associate in 2005 interviewed with the Daily Nation from his Wall Street office and stated that the [Barbados] deficit of ten per cent was “much too high” and the debt level of between 43 and 50 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), although less than a half of Jamaica’s and is even smaller than St Kitts-Nevis’, was unacceptable and should be reduced if the island were to maintain its high credit rating. Francis, further stated that the S&P worried about the Barbados deficit which he said should jump even more. How about that.
Owen Arthur in 2006 invested 2.4 million in a Nigerian water heater project. No water heaters were produced and the 2.4 million dollars was lost and or unaccounted for. Someone’s INCOMPETENCE is responsible for this. That would be Owen Arthur and the BLP.
The Barbados Water Author (BWA), in 2009 was near bankruptcy. The result was enforcement of a 60% water increase.Arthur and the BLP were morally responsible for BWA problems totaling thirteen years. The BWA for thirteen years was apparently LEAKING WATER. The BWA for thirteen years apparently entertained with greed and corruption as did its superior head, the BLP. Someone’s INCOMPETENCE was responsible for this. That would be Owen Arthur and the BLP.
The political fighting is as usual over $$$$. Who can get the most when in a position to take.
To laffinatdem. DT’s last Will and Testament should be a document available to the public. The Registrar appears to be withholding it. First time we asked for a copy, THE FILES COULD NOT BE FOUND. A few weeks later, the files were found but a copy was not to be had without a WRITTEN REQUEST. I am uncertain if a written request was ever sent as in this request was TO BE THE NEED TO KNOW and if it appeared the request was a fishing expedition the request would be refused! My question is would the Registrar made this decision arbitrarily OR would one of the higher ups have whispered in his ear. Judging from what we are seeing with horrendous delays and the incredible lack of performance by the Judicial Managers of CLICO and BALICO, there is no whispering there are instructions being passed down with combined threats. FRIGHTENING REALLY. DT’s dishonesty puts him well outside of the realm of pomp and splendor with which he was treated on his death. I ask what would have happened had he not died? How would the CLICO matter blown up here?
It will be interesting to see what progress BIPA makes now that they are going after the Durectors of CLICO ET al! Will the legal fraternity circle wagons in an attempt to protect their brethren who were Directors and under the Company’s of Barbados should have been more than aware of the shenanigans being played!
There is no difference between the BLP & DLP despite what their respective supporters claim.
They are all a bunch of clowns and comments recently made on the International scene about Jack Warner apply to this sorry bunch as well.
Clowns? Clowns are meant to entertain and distract. Our politicians do neither. However, our mistake has not been to keep them under punishing supervision and to take their doings into the public domain immediately. However with wimpy press (note that one newspaper is yet to print ANYTHING about CLICO – wonder why? $$$$$?) , radio and TV Goverment controlled, and the National Sport of Barbados being VICTIMIZATION, finding more than one Ian B is unlikely. But unless there is change and Barbadans start to speak out there will be no improvement.
Seems to me things are just going around in circles. The DLP before approaching and winning the 2008 general election made a lot of promises. The BLP upon approaching the 2013 general election has made a lot of promises.
Now, now the BLP issued a public announcement “it has an enviable record of keeping promises. Bajans must not forget this. Opposition Spokesperson, Mia Mottley in June 2012 outlined a number of measures a new Barbados Labor Party (BLP) government would IMMEDIATELY put in place. This was a public announcement. Mottley has promised Bajans cookies and candy, lots of it.
The BLP in Barbados had enjoyed fourteen years of government rule. Bajans in 2008 voted to dismantle the BLP government. They allowed entrance of a new government that promised cake and ice cream, lots of it. The new DLP government promised “change” but nothing changed. The new DLP promised it would implement a Ministerial Code of Conduct IMMEDIATELY upon forming a government and would introduce Integrity Legislation and Freedom of Information within the first 100 days. This was a public announcement. None of what the DLP promised ever came to life. Those promises were not kept. Bajans did not forget.
Would you say then that most politicians are liars, or have convenient memories? Perhaps they don’t consider their word worth anything! Perhaps they being in party A claim an unalienable right to lie and not keep promises as party B never did. Perhaps what the island desperately needs is a new party comprising of mature individuals who are financially secure, not easily encouraged to go down the wrong path following the smell of money. People who are not on an ego trip. And the people who influence the ministers, their Permanent Secretaries who are the ones that make wheels turn or even perhaps make “things” disappear..
CLICO was perhaps the single major reason why DT did not follow through with integrity legislation. He knew what that bubble contained and the treat it held for him. He must have worried himself sick unless as a politician one doesn’t worry over peccadilloes.
The DLP house is not spotless. They know this. The BLP house is also not spotless. They know this. The BLP, though, barks at the DLP as though its house is clean or cleaner than the DLP; it’s not. Bajans could do better than Stuart but without Arthur. Let that dog lie dead, Owen Arthur.
Thompson showed that he was one of the most dishonest politicians to have ever sat in the parliament of Barbados. The fact that his office raised ficticious invoices to CLICO in order to get funds out for his bussom buddy is a fraudelant act and of the judicial managers were men of integrity they would have already commenced legal proceedings to recover those funds a
If the BWA was nearly broke in 2009, how and why is it necessary to construct a mammoth BWA headquarters in the Pine. Has anyone seen the size of the land involved, and the high crane on site. Another Palace dedicated to waste of taxpayers money.Seems like Innotech getting all these big Government contracts…where are the Tenders as required by law? Blatant tiefing going on.
Tenders? Tendering? Tenders Committee? Do these words still exist in the vocabulary of Goverment business? Not a lot of time left, get what you can before it mash up and the next lot declaring their honesty and making new friends…. Or who knows meeting back with the ones from the past who understand how to play the game!
Bajans did not deserve David Thompson and likewise do not deserve Owen Arthur. David Thompson we know was not an honest man. His involvement in CLICO proves this. Owen Arthur likewise is not an honest man. That 75,000 campaign check that went into his personal banking account proves this. Al Barrack, the Codringer family deaths at Arch, Britton Hill and The Nigerian water heater mess are yet other reason that proves Bajans do not deserve Owen Arthur.
Barbadoes has before it a lot of unresolved matters, CLICO, Al Barrack, the Arch Cot, Britton Hill mess involving the Codringer family and Myrie rape case simply because of someone’s incompetence and greed.
laffinatdem- Agree,The rest of the puzzel is the Massive Fraud of the land deeds , title no good, But as you can see the Bajan Free Press dont want to head line the truth. No one can get a way from clear titles to land … BLP and DLP dont have no deeds nor clear title . All of Barbados feel this have nothing to do with them for 90pecent of them or more holding worthless paper. So they will feel the pain of move VAT , and other taxes to pay for the cover up.Offshore banks hold the funds of the Ministers fraud and lawyers , Yes also use to help build up CILCO books and see what happened.
Headline the Massive Fraud about the Deeds BFP and lets see the replys…Ask Minister Hammy, He told the truth for he knows the truth.Numbers on paper is not real only land is real
The tender truth is that whether BLP or DLP the faces are different but the game remains the same. Deadvid or Owen played the same game, the only question is who’s better at it. The game remains the same.
Bajans are the ones caught in the middle and become victims. David Thompson cared nothing about the victims neither does Owen.
Agree with Msjjj and George, a lot more happened in 14 years. The United States FBI while investigating VECO seized millions of records showing bribes paid to politicians. Those records could be made available to Barbados. The BLP and or the DLP may NOW have received those records from the United States FBI. Those records possibly will show payments and gifts to Owen Arthur, Dale Marshall and Mia Mottley.
First it was the big 11,now it is the FRANTIC 5
Look
Can you tell us or point us to the politician that can be considered an honest man? Is there any in government that given the opportunity to hoard a few thousand dollars would not jump at the prospects of finally being able to get over ones financial troubles? Is it not true that many Permanent Secretaries and heads of departments are guilty is hell of taking draw backs?
A precedence has been set by those put in charge of governing our business. YOu expect that infelicous activity that starts at the top will not trickle to those in the middle and the bottom. I am convinced that 95% of government persons are benefitting from illegimate activity and because it has been going on for a long timee many believe it to be normal and acceptable practice.
SSS…..”POLITICIAN” AND “HONEST” IS AN OXYMORON. The only way out is to pull down the system and that entails blood in the street. Got the stomach for that?
LOOK here responding to Sunshine Sunny Shine (07/29/2012). The baal religion included child sacrifice and prostitution of both sexes. God tells the prophet Elijah that there are yet 7,000 that do not bow to baal (Old Testament/I Kings 19:18). There are likewise some honest politicians. Owen Arthur, we know for certain is not one of them, an honest politician.
Rod Blagojevich, a former Illinois governor was convicted of federal crimes and sentenced 14 years in prison. He was the 4th Illinois governor convicted of federal crimes. The Alaskanian senator, Ted Stevens was convicted of receiving over a quarter of a million dollars in home renovations, a new SUV and other gifts he received from VECO. He KNOWING violated United States ethics laws. Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley and Dale Marshall gave to VECO a government contract WITHOUT TENDER and VECO had no record of building prisons. Certainly, VECO gave to them, Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley and Dale Marshall something for such generosity. David Thompson in the United States would have been convicted on felony charges. Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley and Dale Marshall in the United States also would have been convicted on felony charges. The 2011 Transparency International CPI Report shows 80% of humans live under corrupt government. Interesting, Barbados on that report scores quite well. The recent S&P downgrade for Barbados was a mistake. Maybe. The 2011 Transparency International CPI Report was a mistake. Definitely.
David Thompson made no effort to pursue the VECO matter or those he knew were involved because he himself got a piece of the VECO pie. Maybe. The IRS and FBI in the United States seized millions of VECO records. Those records show payments and gifts surrendered to Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley, Dale Marshall and David Thompson. Maybe. Both the BLP and DLP had some of the CLICO pie. The DLP had more. Owen Arthur invited the 75,000 campaign cheque into his personal banking account KNOWING it did not belong to him. David Thompson, again made no effort to convict him. Owen Arthur, he knew was a dishonest man but he knew that he (David Thompson) himself was a dishonest man.
Barbados has been hurt and deeply wounded by both government parties, the BLP and DLP. Time for it to stop, STOP THE MUSIC. Bajans could do better than Stuart but without Arthur. Let that dog lie dead, Owen Arthur.
Sunshine Sunny Shine
Jimmy Carter, the 39th United States President is known to be an honest man.
LOOK
Jimmy Carter is not Barbadian and I doubt if you would find 7 honest politicians in government compared to 7000 that did not bow to Baal. Barbados is controlled by politicians and the rich merchant class. The judicial system in my island is highly influence by persons of known status and thus justice is compromised for their sake. Owen Arthur or any politician in this country will never ever be brought to justice for any alleged or suspected practice of govemental malpractice. What transpires in the states upon a conviction of any politician for known corruption will never happen in Barbados because thiefing is what the peasants do. The big boys only simply organize their investment. So people like the first Noel, cannot be questioned with respect to his accumulated wealth because his family organized it for him.
Sunshine Sunny Shine
The average Bajan is constanly raped but knowledgable of its political offender (s) but handicapped, unable to defend itself.
Agree, Owen Arthur or any Barbados politician will NEVER be brought to justice. The judicial system MUST change, but politicians in Barbados will NEVER allow the judicial system to change and or allow it change them. The U.S. is better equipped to punished its politicians and or those in government positions does it. The U.S. House of Representives voted on 7/26/2012 to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in criminal contempt of congress for failing to provide to it documents of vitality. This, likely will NEVER happen in Barbados. Arthur may return to office in 2013. A dog returns to his vomit, so the fool [Arthur] returns to his folly (Old Testament/Proverbs 26:11).
Barbados, according to the United Nations has lots of thief. They are perhaps pointing fingers at those corrupt politicians, David Thompson, Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley, Dale Marshall, etc. I agree also that the judicial system in Barbados is influened by known status. This is quite obvious and applicable to the Arch Cot land mess linked to Mia mottley. Yes, you are correct a mass amount of government individuals are benefiting from illegimate activity because it has been going on for a long time. Winston Roach, cousin to Owen Arthur, a purchasing officer at the Barbados Water Authority could possibly be one of them. The Barbados Water Authority in 2009 was near bankrupcy. The Barbados Water Authority I think had fun with greed and corruption as did its superior head, Owen Arthur and the BLP group.
Owen Arthur, at moment should be a resident at Dodds with Mia Mottley and Dale Marshall accompanying him.
The following comment is almost connected to all the foregoing postings. Tiefing, corruption, dishonest politicians and THE ABILITY OF THE LEGAL SYSTEM TO DEAL WITH THEM.
When our new CJ was announced I was genuinely excited. I naively believed that we would see a speedier court system. We’d surely spent enough on a fine new Court Building. But in truth and in fact the CJ has achieved sfa. There is good reason for this and it relates to the In Chamber hearings by appointment. Appointments which are often callously disregarded by both Judges and lawyers.
As I understand it there is an alternate method known as JEMS – Judicial Enforcement Management System. It’s simplicity is just too much for our legal fraternity who are undisciplined and uncontrollable. JEMS would allow the CJ to randomly distribute cases/suits to sitting judges. Each Judge would be responsible for the resolution of the case from start to decision time. There would be no ducking, changes of judges mid-stream as the CJ would on a weekly or fortnightly basis meet with the Judges to see what progress is being made. THIS SYSTEM IS IN PLACE AND WORKING EFFECTIVELY IN TRINIDAD….. YES TRINIDAD BUT LAWYERS AND JUDGES ARE ANTI-JEMS here
There is also the question of the legal fraternity policing themselves and the disbarring of dishonest lawyers. I understand that even if there is a Disciplinay Committee in the Barbados Bar Association, it does not sit, if it does it is a toothless committee. Barbados must be the only country where lawyers are on bail and practicing…. What a disgraceful story about the American lady swindled out of $100,000.00 and the general view being “what can you expect, it’s Barbados”,
Having said all that how in name of God can we expect to find a firm of lawyers who will take on dealing with the CLICO and BALICO matter where they have to sue the Directors of those companies, who may be family, or “connected”.
The DLP involving David Thompson is mind blowing, likewise and The BLP involving Arthur and the BLP. Both Thompson and Arthur engaged in constant money laundering but the BLP mountain o f mess is far above that of David Thompson. Kensington oval, for instance was built on land that belongs to Violet Beckles not the Barbados government. The controversy complex at Warrens was also built on property not owned by the government. Arthur and the BLP it seems engaged in corruption of any kind.
The BLP around August 2007 created a look-alike version of the Barbados Free Press site and used their logo. The BLP attempted to confuse the public and to draw traffic from the genuine Barbados Free Press posts. In doing this, they, the BLP entered into plagiarism and copyright theft. . . That’s mind blowing. The Barbados Labor Party prompted a website that involved arson, rape and murder of a political opponent of the government. Arthur refused to acknowledge a letter from the victim of death threats and the police would not investigate because some of the death threats were forwarded from a computer used by a BLP member. . . That’s mind blowing.
A lot of Barbarians (still living) are suffering from the CLICO disaster. The Codringer family of five (all dead) suffered at the hands of someone’s greed and incompetence. Their home at Arch Cot Britton Hill you know collapsed in a cave beneath it. No building on that land should have been allowed because it was caved. The attorney general at that time (Dale Marshall) blames no one. No one is responsible, it could have happened to anyone. BULLSHIT!!! That property was linked to the Mottley family involving Mia Mottley and the incident occurred under the BLP government with Owen Arthur at the help.
The majority lawyers in Barbados are corrupt. So what, politicians are too.
We going hv to mek a serious serious investment in the old US Naval Base in St. Lucy. We going need nuff more jail space when we start locking up the corrupt politicians, lawyers, and every other white collar criminal deserving of doing time. Don’t give them the benefits to be had at Dodds…. Hard time at North Point and they can fish for their food off the cliff while shackled to a big rock.
You could at least let Arthur have his bottle, know he often goes on a drinking binge.
all these skeletons now walking around bim. what will the owners do now most of them have gotten out of the closet. after so many decades, never thought i would see the day.
The skeletons of which u write have only just arisen. Dem only barely shuffling around getting dem bearings of whose who and mekking damn sure when dey duz rattle the bones, the folks gine be so friten dem gine poop dere pants. You watch CLICO. Watch when dey drag each and every director in front de DPP and de court. Den it will be the Insurance Supervisor and the Accountant firms who failed to warn people. And the PM who tell de people it was a save place for there money… Nov 5 was Guy Fox Day and penny boms but watch in 2013 we may see a blow up in de house too.
If i was a politician i wud theif some money too. Nuff-a-rit
pity some of these thieving crooks have already died. hope they feeling whatever extreme heat hell has to offer. unfortunately their families now enjoy tax payers and policy holders hard earned cash and have the balls to pretend they elite, while putting on false airs. they do need to bear in mind that even stolen money is just paper and dont care the amount even 30 million can finish at the blink of an eye.
David Thompson (dead). These though are not dead and not imprisoned Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley, Dale Marshall, Gline Clark, George Payne and Leroy Parris, etc. still enjoying the good life and all you Bajans hard earned money.
Responses to DLP and BLP: Nowhere to hide their histories
They sure try to hide Barbados Plantation History.
The books are wrong dont trust the books or who in charge of them., When you walk in a lawyers office , they looking to see how much you maybe worth and how to get that worth from you,,,
The books are wrong, the lawyers, judge and politicians too. Bajans have been raped of what they rightfully own. They (Bajans) though are knowledgable of their political rapist (Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley, Dale Marshall, Gline Clark, George Payne, Leroy Parris, etc. but handicapped, unable to fight back.
@ PLANTATION DEEDS
Everything is now public knowledge, what many have made effort to hide. Violet Beckles inherited a vast amount of land from Beatrice Henry, more than what she realized I think. Those lawyers she made contact with knew this. The BLP government allowed this to happen but the DLP government following the death of David Thompson turned its head looking away at it. The BLP government did the crime, the DLP government following the death of David Thompson simply just ran away from it.

I will vote for Taan Abed in Christ Church West, but if I didn’t have an independent candidate running I would stay home and not vote.
