Did BLP politician Kerrie Drurado Symmonds assault his wife, Andrea Nicole Symmonds and slash her auto’s interior?
Or, as some women do when they want to be rid of their man, did Mrs. Symmonds create or exaggerate incidents to achieve an advantage during court proceedings?
The truth may out in court… or, as often happens in Barbados, someone may pay money to make the truth go away.
But whatever happens, there’s nothing as interesting as a politician involved in a scandal!

If Mr. Symmonds thinks he is Chris Brown, he needs to suffer a similar fate- no dropped charges. Let’s hear about about a huge fine and community service. When all fails, a few months in jail. WE have become too accepting of this kind of behaviour in Barbados.
While I do not condone Kerri Symmonds’ actions, we do not know the whole story and likely never will. It’s a very thin line between love and hate and emotions run high in these situations. Some women can be very wicked in their anger and bitterness and who knows what drove or provoked Symmonds to his unfortunate actions.
Congratulations to BFP for once again cutting through the BS to the truth that is shown in your headline and your second paragraph. Most people will judge him guilty, but women always lie about these situations even when they don’t have to.

I have been falsely accused by a woman and it is no picnic.
Sometimes you have to read between the lines to discover morsels of information. In his formal letter of resignation, Symmonds, alludes to child custody and parental rights issues. If his wife, soon to be ex, is trying to turn the children against him or keep him from seeing his children, she is asking for trouble. Never get between a man and his children. Just because he doesn’t love her anymore doesn’t mean he will not fight tooth and nail for his kids.
you honestly expect his statement to say otherwise – I happen to know that there are currently no ongoing court proceedings other than what is to take place tomorrow – no one has even filed for divorce – up to two weeks ago i saw Senator Symmonds with his son – he said he normally had him on weekends – so there is definitely more in the mortar in the pestle.
I agree. Allegations are that a second man is involved. This has been talked about for a few years now. It is also alleged that he had wimmen too, but she wanted to be rid o’ he, more than he wanted to be rid o’ she. Like the typical Bajan man.
Talk about being caught between “the devil and the deep blue sea”. Mia or Owing……….is that considered a choice?
Like a mutual honourable suicide pact, Mia should only go if Owing goes with her. Owing was no shining example of virtue and integrity while in office.

I have no doubts that Mr. Symmonds beat his wife. He had nuff women and when she get a man he can’t handle it. Typical man. I only hope justice will be served. He feel he could do as he like.
Family Law is a pigs ear and scam for lawyers to make a fortune. The only feasible solution is for all parties to agree to do what is best for their children without any intervention by the court circus.
A man is innocent until proven guilty. The fact that Kerrie resigned from the Senate before the case goes to court is commendable. As an intelligent respectable couple with a bright future, one would have expected them to do what was in the best interest of the child and quietly move on from each other. Instead they behave like yard fowls. I have known them both for over twenty years, and can only hope that the son does not suffer as a result of their foolish behaviours which is deeply rooted in jealousy. Neither one of them are prima donnas.

I recently learnt of the passing of Sir John Stanley Goddard, an icon of the business world, an honest sincere humble and kind man.
He was one that I had the utmost respect and regard for and a man of the highest moral quality.
Barbados will sadly miss his wit and his business skills.
To his family I say keep the chin up and know that his work on this earth is done and it was well done.
I would like to extend to the family of Sir John Stanley Goddard our deepest regret at the news of his passing and may he Rest In Peace

We do not know for sure what happened but we can use this post to reiterate the following.
Spousal abuse is wrong.
Symmonds and his wife will get their day in court.
When a person becomes a politician there is a reasonable expectation that they will exhibit a high standard of their behaviour in public and personal life.
Yes we are all guilty of sin but we are not all abusers either.
The truth will out.
Looks as though the Governor General will have to appoint another new Senator shortly.
How does being unfaithful legitimize assault?
LIB, assault can be something as simple as pushing and shoving. Love is one of the most deadly of emotions. Until the details of the “assault” are made known, I am not prepared to pass judgment.
Find out which law firm is handling the case and would have copies of these court documents and you may have a link as to how BFP got them.
I suppose Mr.Symonds is just following in the footsteps of his “honourable” leader of the Opposition. I can’t see how anyone can justify assault on a female under any condition. Mr.Symonds is a lawyer. He should know better !!! What is it called again alternative dispute resolution. Shame on him and every other politician like him including who (M)issing (I)n (A)ction on this issue.
The Law in Bim is bare sport, a sham and a complete mockery of natural justice…it is a process wherein justice is an absent participant and anything can and does happen.
Government steals land with impunity (compulsory acquisition and payment witheld) and is comprised mostly by lawyers. It is no surprise Kerrie conducts himself as seen, he knows others of his profession are getting away with murder.
Someone asked which law was contravened that the Nation had to apologise. This was considered a domestic dispute, and so fell under the Family Law Act, where names of plaintiffs and accused are never published.
Other lawyers falling foul of the law, were under criminal indictments, and so their cases could be reported as such.
I am not a lawyer, but if I am wrong, then I stand corrected.
DLP Column: Let’s hear from Mia
In our Manifesto, “Pathways to Progress”, the Democratic Labour Party committed itself to the establishment of a Ministry of Families. With this in mind, we pledged our support to developing programmes and policies to eliminate the serious issues of domestic violence.
In the recent past, we have witnessed the launch of initiatives likes Service Alliance for Violent Encounters (SAVE) Foundation. Miss Liesel Daisley must be commended for coming forward and securing such a programme. The scourge of domestic violence has become a disease that is seeking a cure in the format of a change in attitude.
The Democratic Labour Party’s leadership has been very strong on its Families First agenda over the period in Opposition. Prime Minister David Thompson has taken a no-nonsense approach to matters that erode our social fabric. We have tried to engage the Barbados Labour Party on the need to have a party position on universal matters of this nature.
The current female leader, Mia Mottley, along with Senator Elizabeth Thompson were victims of a most vicious platform attack regarding their persons. As a matter of fact, the females of the Barbados Labour Party were verbally abused in public, much to the disgust of all right-thinking Barbadians.
The Opposition Leader has earned the reputation of speaking her mind on matters of universal importance. She does not mix her words nor does she run from a fight. As a matter of fact, she starts them. Her leadership style has been questioned by some of her peers, but she has remained resolute in her approach to opposition politics.
The recent summoning to our law Courts of one of her Senators has left us puzzled as to the type of leadership she will offer on this matter. One could only imagine if the late Sir Harold St. John or the former Barbados Labour Party leader Sir Henry Forde were in office how swift their condemnation of such actions would have been. After all, the great Sir Henry Forde has won the hearts of all Barbadian women for his unswerving support of legislation concerning common law unions. This piece of legislation has revolutionised how women are treated in unmarried unions.
Mia Mottley has the opportunity to join thousands of activists throughout the world by condemning any form of domestic violence. The task of leadership in any form is not easy, but firm decision-making will always be a hallmark of any solid leader. The Opposition leader must act now and stop the rot that was inherited by her leadership. She inherited disgruntled members of the Democratic Labour Party under the banner of politics of inclusion and have been stuck with them over the years.
She has been given a platform to embrace a pertinent social issue. The matter has been placed squarely on her shoulders to dispense with. The entire country awaits the utterances of the new leadership. We know, based on past experience, that the female leader of the Opposition Party will not allow for any matter to go unattended that would seek to cast a shadow or contaminate the opportunities of her party’s success.
