Shona And Marcus Steppin’ Out Thursday At The Gap!

We’re not working Friday, Auntie Moses is available to look after the little ones and the weekend is already way over-booked with family happenings.

So it looks like Thursday is our night to have a little fun. What will it be, darling?

  • A very talented performer. Funny how he never made it on the international scene.

  • To: Rumboy

He never made it because its not talent alone that allows you to “make it”.
Go on the sidwalks of Europe and New York. Talent is there, playing for handouts from passers by.
What gets you on the international scene is marketing and your ability to have the right contacts. I honestly believe talent is secondary and sometimes (if you listen to some “stars”) unnecessay.
What can also help (in many instances) is your willingness to live a deviant lifestyle.

  • TO: Rumboy,

By the way, why did he leave his original band in the first place? Can’t remember their name, but I do recall they were very good musicians. They had a local hit in “Your always on my mind” Why did it break up? They seemed to be doing well.

  • It was Spice & Co., Band members expected him to sing even when he had a cold and he lost his voice on stage at Plantation one night (I was there, very sad, he was all roasting in fever) and after that he said frig it and cooled off – he later had Gray Lizard recording studios that screwed up Starcom & Cana for doing radio commercials – his quality was superior and rates were lower, as he was a pure studio and not radio station? It was QUIETER too for better ambience!

(Alan tried to revive into the Alan Sheppard band at the stadium in Kadooment ‘95 but there were many allegations from both black & white Bajans that a members of a certain entertainment company may well have had a hand in getting his set sabotaged that night, humiliating and frustrating)

Then the studio changed from GL to Beezneez, Alan also briefly formed a group called the Heard with Samud Ali and Phil Archer, now Alan is partner with ex-Zafran Steve George for Limelight Cafe, so the Lizard has done very well all told over the years

  • To Eddie -
I agree with your first comment but they are some out there that have both and yes, they are some that have only the marketing and contacts. Funny times we live in.

  • To: Rumboy

We certainly live in funny times. But I think it has always been funny times. Its who you know.
    IVORY
    ———–
They were an even better group, superior to Spice(thanks for the reminder, Ian).
I used to see them every week. Frank Mosbaugh was entertainer par excellence.
Some strange reason was given, I think “health reasons” for his leaving the group and retiring. But if I am not mistaken, the man still entertains.
    Why did he leave?

  • He has a band in Toronto along with his younger brother and they pull the crowds plus he still does one reunion a year here with Ivory. Talented but not original. Could mimick Elton John but if you want to hear EJ then you buy EJ.

  • Eddie,
Ivory have a planned reunion mid to end Jan at Harbor Lights, original members including Franc.

  • Rumboy,
I am sure he still pulls the crowds. The man is good. I remember some years ago, he attracted the likes of Paul McCartney at their studio in Barbados.

  • Well, I’m very flattered guys and you are correct, Ian: most of the stuff I did with Ivory was imitation and it was actually quite difficult for me to find my own voice, which I did eventually. You can hear my own stuff is definitely not EJ, although sometimes you can hear a little creeping in. I do have CDs available if you’re interested. Just go to my website and or send me an email. I’ll send you one.

I did leave the band for health reasons and many of them probably like Alan’s. Performing for a living is not an easy life. Playing that much affected my vocal chords and I pretty much HAD to stop singing, at least for a while. I’m back on the block now though.

I currently play with a band in Toronto but only for fun, really. I operate a small piano tuning business as my mainstay.

… and yes, we ARE having and Ivory fete on the beach at Harbour Lights on January 19th. Why don’t you guys come out and see for yourself? Hope to see you there.

    Cheers

    franc

  • Wallace Bauckham

Franc Nice to see your still kikin son ! member me? Cheers W

  • Are you any relation to the osteopathic chiropractor John from Canada? If so, what’s he up to now? He saved my parents’ backs many a time when I was knee high to a grass stalk, LOL!
