I have often stood at the western end of the runway at Grantley Adams International Airport, watching the takeoffs and landings. (Although I have to admit that this activity isn’t half as exciting since the last Concorde landing.)
You can practically reach out and touch the aircraft as they land or takeoff and the truth is that, as with so many other airports, if a Baptist or Seventh Day Adventist terrorist had a rocket and wanted to use it there is little that could be done to stop the attack.
Our Robert is out there flying today, so we are following the aviation news for the next week.
The world has changed and will continue to change.
And it just changed again for some folks in a residential neighbourhood in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA…

The recent aviation stories in the news have not been very encouraging to someone who will hopping across the pond next week.

bfp ,you are so lame, here you go again. Did you read your own post ?the launcher wasnt “seized”,it was handed over to the authorities when found.next thing, where was it made? yup u got it right,in the usa[who as u know is worlds largest manufacturer of arms, and i mean all types].The story says it can be bought at a [surplus]store and it was inoperable anyways. but you guys [bcos of your agenda] have to search the whole net for such stories that make that odd news section.
Why not put up a relevant post/topic like the one where the church somewhere in calif. has to pay out 660 000 000 dollars for child abuse.but then you wouldnt dare do that wud u? i wonder why…..

Hi cheesecutter (that’s quite a name)
It is disgusting that the Catholic Church is having to pay out over half a billion dollars for the longtime cover-up of child abuse that can only be described as institution-wide.
There are many stories that come our way that we do and don’t report.
Robert has an aviation focus as well as a Barbados focus so you will see more stories from BFP with an aviation flavour.
If we are too lame for your taste, perhaps you could try the BLP Blog. There’s lots of relevant, cutting edge stories over there.
Or… maybe the DLP Blog where they refuse to commit to integrity legislation, conflict of interest rules or financial disclosure for their own candidates. Talk yes… commit… no.
Either blog will give you the excitement you crave!

thanks for informing me bout blp n dlp blogs, nearly got a headdache lookin at that . icouldnt believe that they have posts n comments set up like u all for these 2 parties. at least u all cud say u like to stir up a conversation.but cheese man ,blogs for these 2 parties.
by the way, since we r on an aviation thread, would like to let readers know that i was in brazil a while back and my plane landed onthat same runway [sao paulo]that the plane crashed.when i saw the crash video i was like cheeeese man.
despite all the events i still think the stats say that its more likely u cud die in a car accident than in a plane crash. [esp. the way some bajans drive nowadays].

Not to stray off-topic but have you seen the airport in St. Maarten?
This image sums it up nicely..

There’s tons—- of YouTube videos about the Runway in Saint Marten…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auPntFre0Y8&mode=related&search=
People always stand up like they crazy on the beach directly behind the planes landing and end up getting blasted by the engines, and then pelted with sand- rocks and all kinds of other debris before they get tumbled into the sea directly behind them….
Here’s a video report from Germany. It shows the people getting pelted with sand and blasted back into the water……

“Baptist or Seventh-Day Adventist terrorist?” whah?
July 21, 2007 at 5:49 am
Anyone who knows either Baptists or Seventh-day Adventists is well aware that neither of them would have a missle launcher.
They would be throwing Bibles in hopes that someone would read it!
July 21, 2007 at 10:10 am
BFP:
Both David Herdman and Scott Fogg have misunderstood your satirical heading about “Baptists” and “Seven Day Adventists” having missile launchers! Of course, Americans do not understand satirical humour anyhow. Their variety is juvenile slapstick, which at times can be insulting to one’s intelligence.
July 21, 2007 at 1:22 pm
BFP:
Pride of Barbados has a keen eye for the obvious in regard to the BFP missile launcher article. But he might want to expand his research beyond his myopic view of American humor, as the tradition of literary and other American satire has been alive and well since the 1700’s.
July 21, 2007 at 1:49 pm
Dufus:
I don’t doubt that there are examples of satirical humour in the American literary tradition, but PLEASE, not the trash we see on TV called Sit-Com from the U.S.A, nor the sick, ignorant e-mail jokes that flood e-mail inboxes! It cannot be disputed that the British humour is far more subtle and intelligent than most American humour. (And don’t forget we in Barbados inherited a lot from the British!).
July 21, 2007 at 2:05 pm
Granted, American sitcom material is generally bad. But Brits and Barbadians are buying it so they can watch it. Go figure.
My beef was with your stereotyping of Americans’ inability to understand satire. Being American and all, I’m struggling to understand why people hate us so much. Perhaps if they watched us read a book, or our President, they would see our lips moving, and take pity.
July 21, 2007 at 2:11 pm
The first time I ever saw a pair of titties in full on television was Benny Hill on BBC.
Yes, now that I think of it, that was very intelligent humour. (At least at 11 years old I considered it to be intelligent humour)
July 21, 2007 at 2:12 pm
No, Dufus, please don’t put me in the category of American haters! I have family and friends who are American and I would say that as far as Americans go, the pluses far outweigh the miuses. And we know only too well, that EVERYONE wants to live in the good old U.S. of A, so it must be a good place to be. As for American foreign policy, well, no thanks! We’ve already discussed the humour topic, and I stick by what I say – American humour is definitely not to my taste!
July 21, 2007 at 2:16 pm
POB, wait a second, you don’t like our foreign policy?? I thought we was creating jobs.
July 21, 2007 at 4:42 pm
Thanks very much for the Put Down, BFP. I’m sure Dufus is smiling.
July 21, 2007 at 4:49 pm
Pride of Barbados, please don’t take BFP too seriously when Benny Hill is mentioned on a Saturday morning.
George is on. Can’t take anything too seriously when the old guy is on spam duty!
July 21, 2007 at 6:03 pm
Pride of Barbados, you caught me red-handed, I was indeed grinning with unbridled and indecent delight at BFP’s comment. I believe it was Benny Hill who first exposed me to the video charms of an Englishwoman, or is it the other way around? In any case, please know this is all in fun, and I think your heart is in the right place.

Cliverton/Dufus:
Cliverton, thanks for the assurance.
Dufus, at the risk of sending George into a fit of foaming rage, I have several DVD’s of Benny Hill and watch them over and over again! I also like “Are You Being Served” and “‘Allo,’Allo’”. And I’m an avid fan of your American Golden Girls. Can’t get enough of them, and “Dorothy” is highly satirical. Keep smiling!

Hi there. It’s not easy being green.
And Scottish.
I kind of liked Sesame Street… and the muppets.
There are lots of good comedies that we could all list that prove the good taste and humour of many countries. Why PREFER any- exaine and laugh at all.
Did you like Ratatouille? French mouse cooks up a storm.
Chinese TV humour is pretty good. Ever see “Monkey”?
Seinfeld was class.
So was Yes minister.
What about literature? There’s great comedy there.
How about music. Like Stephen Foster’s ‘Oh Suzanna’?
Why not stop and think in a conscious way, and try to see the good? After all, why make generalisations?
Are we there yet?

Hi Shrek,
For a jock you have superb catholic tastes in humour, (Celtic?).
I think the basic difference in transatlantic humour is the ability and confidence to laugh at ones own idiosyncrasies.
In the US there is currently Lisa Lampanelli proving the exception to the rule.
As for your compatriots, I love the honesty of Billy Connelly and the images conjured up by such, but I’m afraid I have never fathomed Chick Murray.
Are there any new interesting Scots comics?
July 22, 2007 at 5:04 pm
I don’t live in Scotland anymore- I moved to America
