Robert & Shona Will Be There! (Too Bad Marcus Has To Work)

We will see you tonight (January 5th) for the big Barbados Music Awards show at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium, at 8PM. And a big thank you to Auntie Moses for coming down to look after the little one.

Magnet Man is up for Best Music Video (male) and Reggae Artiste Of The Year

Yes, if the girls were in charge, you know who’d win in both categories!

Rihanna is, of course, a top contender in more than a few categories but some folks are of the opinion that “she has had her share” of fame and fortune. The girl has done just fabulous, but in our opinion – who is best should win. No other criteria should come into it. Rihanna has had lots of polishing, pushing and money behind her, but no one can deny her raw talent. Jealous people should stay home and let her stay on top of the pile so long as she keeps producing quality.

The Nation News: Who Will Be Entertainer Of Them All At BMA’s?

  • I see the music awards dealt with in the Nation today … all sorts of celebrities went.

They even have a picture of Owen and his family.

  • Congratulations to all Nominees and Winners you were all deserving! Including ‘Rihanna’ who won 2 Diamond Awards for worldwide sales of her 2 Albums, and ‘Magnet Man’ who received Platinum Certification Award for his debut Album ‘Magnificent’.

The performances were awesome! And WELL DONE to Ronnie Morris and Russell Ruck of Timeless Entertianment for their sheer hard work and vision in putting on this big show

  • “Anonymous” sounds like a piece of self-fluffing…

Who were the judges? What criteria were involved in reaching a decision? Who were the accountants used to tabulate results? What methods were employed to ensure diplomacy, secrecy and validity of all final tallies?

I asked these questions when writing for the Advocate last year, this was when Paul Thorne got nominated twice in one category at debut and won, and shortly thereafter the column’s plug was yanked vigorously and without ceremony!

H’Mmmm… Olympus advertises heavily in Advocate and Ronnie Morris writes for Olympus’ Limelight newsletter – I suppose there’s no connection, huh? Just paranoia? Oh, wait, isn’t Olympus a main sponsor of the BMA which in turn is run by Ronnie Morris’ Timeless?

  • I do believe that the Barbados Music Awards left much to be desired. I am of the opinion that when you pay that amount of money for tickets that you should be given a show that is unforgettable and would be talked about for a lifetime. I am not saying that the attempt was not valiant but improvements must be made. Here are some of my suggestions since we seem to want to imitate the US.

When they are presenters (Cassandra and Wyane) there is simply no need for Ronnie Morris to keep coming out and speaking. What was the purpose of Cassandra and Wyane then? Most people work behind the scenes if Mr. Morris wants the spotlight then next time you do the complete hosting. I had never seen Billy Crystal present a show and then the organizer/s keep coming forward to speak! That would be utterky tacky!! (Take a hint)

Give awards to performers who plan to perform. What in the world was that that Jabe did? I applaude Kimberly she made us see why she was nominated and deserved our votes.

Get the right names for who actually won the awards instead of having to re-present the award to the person who actually won it by the person who one by error! (TACKY!)

All presenters should be entering from backstage!! Gosh! Not having to stand and walk up a ramp. (I mean seriously do you guys not watch the Grammys, AMA , BET Awards or theOscars??)

If we are to be classed as having an Award show of high standards then I suggest that we set some.

When you have a nominee winning so many awards they should be no way that she has to put them on the floor between her legs!! (Rhianna)
The girls that were wearing their skimpy getups should have assisted her with them.

I believe that you learn from your mistakes so hopefully the next Award Ceremony would be of a better quality
